  1. That really is too bad....hate to hear when the shiney side isn't on top! Glad to hear only real injury to you was your pride! It's gonna cost you......$500 for your deductable....and of course a $5 donation to the site!! (I've made several myself!)
  2. Wow! How'd you get it to ride up on the bike like that????
  3. a few years back in Dunnville ON, A truck swerved to miss a cow on the road and caused the oncoming car to swerve to miss the truck. That car lost control and slammed into the car following the truck killing several people. In your case I'm Glad Tom was OK! I do need the vent cover on the RIGHT side of the dash panel (beside the speaker) for my 88. Did it survive? PM me with details!
  4. OK....I know the rules....here's some pics.. I was impressed that it has chrome "filler strips" behind the clutch cover and Stator??? on the other. It also has chrome caps on top of the brake and clutch resevoir Over all its in pretty good shape...some cracks and tabs to be repaired...and I have to do something like polished aluminum or plexi to fil in the side case where the vents are supposed be mounted.
  5. Please posts and let us know how that works for you!
  6. I haven't dug into the new 88VR yet...(took my wife for a ride today and she likes the ride better than the 83 or 84. One thing I have noticed....when the bike is hot I have NO ISSUES with slow starter syndrome that plagued both the older bikes. Is this probably because the PO fixed something (4 brush starter or 4 gu wire or better ground ala dingy's mod) Or Did they make some changes and improvements to correct the problem at the factory?
  7. Is it a straight venture...or the Royale? What goodies does it have on it. I bought an 84 venture standard...nothing on it except a rider's back rest....$1000 Had to put tires on for safety check.
  8. Well....it worked out pretty good. I picked up the bike in Aurora Il and drove just over 1100 miles to get it home...including about 200 miles extra for ah...well I got....lets just call it an unplanned detour The bike runs OK....about 34 mph one up with a lite load and trailer...all on super slab. Pictures were a pretty good representation...but I got a LOT of safety chrome and estra parts I didn't even know I was getting. IT doesn't idle worth a hoot. When I got to Jayceesfolly (Jim C) we pulled the tank cover off it and discovered big gapeing holes in the top of the airbox. We covered the holes up with duct tape...and It seemed to help at first but in no time it was back to the same lousy idle. It needs almost full choke just to keep running at idle. Still Seafoming it but no real change yet. Going to start investigating a bit more in a few days. Prepare to be bombarded with newbie questions! (Jim had to point out where the CB Transmit button was!!!!!) It needs front brake pads, and the clutch probably needs bleeding...it was getting pretty clunky by the end of the ride but all in all I"m pretty happy with the gamble EVen with all the "trains planes and automobiles" stuff going on....I still saved anywhere from $1000 to $1500. A HUGE THANK YOU to Jim and Sheila. Their hospitality and friendliness was truely appreciated. I LOVE THIS FORUM!!!!! ps...now I gotta edit my pics of states visited!!!
  9. Here you go....naked venturers. AKA POND MONSTERS!!!!
  10. Awww shucks....I guess I am gullable, never noticed that! Doesn't bode well for my "ebay" bike does it?
  11. Tomorrow morning I'm heading out to start on my journey to pick up my new to me 88VR I got thru ebay. Although I'm only going to Chicago...it's going to feel like a LOT longer getting there. My wife is driving me to Watertown NY (about 2 1/2 hrs from home) I'm taking a bus from Watertown to Syracuse NY. (2:35-5:15) then wait for just over 4 hous (9:35) to take an overnight train to Chicago, arriving at 9:45 am. Then I have to Kill more time hours before I can meet up with the owner of the bike I bought. THEN THE FUN BEGINS....I'll do a thorough check of the bike...and hit the road Wed night. 860 miles home. I'm a marchmellow butt so... I'm only going to ride 3 hours Wed. evening and camp at a KOA just off the hiway. Then to Rochester NY (7 hours) and crash at "Jayceesfolly" (a member here) Thursday night. Finally , home on Friday. (4 hours) If anybody is free on Thursday thru the day in the Chicago area....let me know....maybe we can connect? I'll be rolling into Union Station around 9:45 am Thursday!
  12. Investment Advice If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Delta Airlines one year ago, you would have $49.00 today! If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in AIG one year ago, you would have $33.00 today. If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Lehman Brothers one year ago, you would have $0.00 today. But, if you had purchased $1,000 worth of beer one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the aluminum cans for the recycling refund, you would have received $214.00. Based on the above, the best current investment plan is to drink heavily & recycle. It is called the 401-Keg. And as a bonus... A recent study found that the average American walks about 900 miles a year. Another study found that on average Americans drink 22 gallons of alcohol a year. That means that the average American gets about 41 miles to the gallon!
  13. OH.....wisenheimer's eh? gnuck, gnuck, gnuck
  14. mine is doing the same right now....button needs cleaning cause it's sticking. Not saying that's your problem....just proving Dingy DOES know a thing or two.
  15. again...I'm just telling you what I read...not what I know. There is supposed to be a small hole where you can put a wire to hold the drive shaft while you mount it. I'd provide the thread where I read that but I can't find it now!!!
  16. Are there Mic Mutes that will work with a First Gen MK II?
  17. Are there ANY US members near the east end of Lake Ontario willing to help me out. I'm thinking I want to leave my bike trailer at your place for a couple of weeks, during which time I will take it apart. Then I will import trailer "parts" in 2 different trips. Anybody willing to help?
  18. I couldn't see that anywhere. do you have a link to that one?
  19. I saw a camper trailer for sale, weights 455 lbs. Is that too much for my 88 VR? What would the max towing weight be? What about tounge weight?
  20. WOO HOO!!!!!! See, I am learning stuff! I learned the driveshaft might miss the thingy that it connects to inside the outer cover sleeve thing. ???????????????????????????????????????????????????
  21. just an uneducated guess... did you have the driveshaft off? I saw in another thread that it is possible to put the driveshaft in BESIDE the actual connection. That would explain why it is free in neutral or with clutch engaged but binds up otherwise..... I THINK:think: Hopefully someone who actually knows what they are talking about will chime in soon!
  22. Unattended vending machines would be smashed and all cash and goods stolen within the first 48 hours. The cost of monitering & security measures would be rediculous To man these sites, 24/7 would require 8 people. 2 per shift, so they can have their contracted breaks plus at least one more for relief for holidays. Even if it was only during daylight hours, you would still need 6 people to man it 16 hours a day. And of course the state workers would need a full wage, benefits ....I doubt the vending machines would cover all that Have you seen the conditions of many public bathrooms? And these are supposedly maintained!!!!!! Human nature in this world is "someone else will do it" Kids kick over outhouses, paint graffitti, carve messages into wooden structures or worse. This might work in a perfect world....but we aren't there yet! (Check out Dan.2:44)

Not to add fuel to the fire...but there are a LOT of obscure laws in the books. I (for one) did NOT know that it was illegal in Ohio. In fact, I would like to ask the members here in Ontario if we are allowed strobes on our brake lights. Maybe you don't need a mommy on here....:stickpoke:but some of us less informed foks appreciate the information others provide...even if its something we already know! How many threads are there on your favourite oil????
  24. Glad to see everything came out in the end! (sorry....I just had to!)
  25. What do you do with old Bumper Cars? WHO KNEW? Yes, you read that right; these little beasties are street legal. They run on either Kawasaki or Honda motorcycle engines and co-opt vintage bumper car bodies into the most awesome form of mini-car we've seen in a long time. There are seven of these little monsters floating around California, and they're all the creation of one man, Tom Wright, a builder in the outskirts of San Diego who figured the leftovers of the Long Beach Pike amusement park needed a more dignified end than the trash heap. They were originally powered by two cylinder Harley Davidson Motorcycle engines but they rattled like heck because of the two cylinder vibration. Tom replaces them with four cylinder Honda or Kawasaki 750's, and a couple have been measured as capable of 160 MPH (which is terrifyingly fast in machines with such a short wheelbase).
