  1. I'm hoping my wife will agree to a trip like that in the next year or so. She loves the MKII compared to the MK1 for passenger comfort so there is hope Stay safe, have fun and TAKE LOTS OF PICTURES for us !!!!
  2. Yesterday, my wife and I were following a young guy on a crotch rocket. We were stopped at the light as we were coming out of a shopping center onto a 4 lane road. The sport bike was turning left so he had to cross 2 lanes before getting into his turn. He had a car in front of him as he turned, so he was doing all of about 15 mph. With all the style and grace of an experienced road racer, he shifted his weight to the left side of the seat, hooking his right knee and extended his low side knee outward 90 degrees to the bike. I laughed out loud... I mean COME ON.....15MPH????? He didn't even make it a sharp turn...just a gentle arc!He was leaning all of about 5 degrees!!!! In fact he probably had to lean to the RIGHT to compensate for the weight shift! But, my wife, loving and generous as she is, said we should give him the benefit of the doubt....he might not be an idiot....maybe he just shifted his weight because had to fart!
  3. It seems we have a "connection"!
  4. PLEASE keep us posted if you hear any news. We certainly hope Ponch is OK. They don't use helicopters for minor injuries! Always hate to hear that any of our group has had an accident!
  5. But in your case Dan you could spend the down time kicking some contractor butt! Or doing his work for him.
  6. Me too....I was getting a bit concerned....just wandering around, lost ...randomly hitting the "refresh" button. Kind of pathetic really!
  7. Hmmm Nothing in the Calendar....did a search and couldn't find any CURRENT info. Is the POKE a secret? Is it by "private invitation" only? It's less than a month away isn't it? WHATS GOING ON?????
  8. No good on the flashing green light.....that's used by volunteer firefighters...at least in Ontario. Red is emergency vehicles....blue is used by snow plows, yellow is tow trucks..... Most other colors I could think of are too close to what is already being used. Someone suggested a banner on the ariel...but lots of folks do that. Why not put a banner on our helmets mounted on a 12" flag pole. Not only will you be recognizable, but you will develop neck muscles like a linebacker!
  9. I don't understand that at all!! "There was no accident"...so you dumped your bike on purpose? "as he went through a green"....if he jumped the light it wasn't green yet...unless you were going thru a red or failing to yeild, SOMEONE was in the wrong. Glad you are OK. Sounds like not much damage for "flipping" side to side.
  10. I was thinking of putting the www.venturerider.org on the lower part of my windshield and MAYBE on the trunk box. I tell anyone and everyone I see riding a venture or *STAR about this site!
  11. America! Strong country! Weak beer!
  12. If it was the clutch would it only show the affect when it is in 5th? Wouldn't it exhibit signs of slipping in other gears? He said "Was like I shifted into neutral"....that doesn't sound like SLIPPING....it sounds like there is NOTHING there.....thats why I'm thinking linkages or gears or something other than clutch. I just can't believe a clutch would cause a total failure in 5th but have absolutely no problems in any other gear
  13. I can see the gas milage being better as everyone says you have to ride thesebikes all the time at 3500 rpm or more. "riding like a grandpaw" probably means you putt along at 2800-3200 rpm...which actually does cost gas milage! Don't ask me why...I have no idea! But that seems to be the rule of thumb! Hope the 5th gear issues turns out to be minor
  14. Was that a slap of a glove I just heard?
  15. yes...swimmers did those too!
  16. and possibly a few proviinces too!
  17. gee...on a first gen I'm just getting out of 2nd at 50mph:stickpoke:
  18. :rotf: I liked it! But Political???? since when is Etrade a political party?
  19. I do feel badly for his family and for the added upset for the family whose funeral it was. But before everyone submits his name for sainthood lets consider a few things. He was a retired cop doing part time work...He could have been washing windows or riding escort for funerals...He did what he knew....I don't figure that is such a big deal. lets face it...he screwed up on at least 2 counts. he was passing on the right at what must have been a fairly high speed. He worked part time as an escort for the funeral company, but didn't know what cemetary the hearst was going to turn into? It is a shame for anyone to die....but If this was a kid on a rocket sled everyone would be speaking of this accident in a much more derogatory tone! Just my
  20. I'll have to wait a bit on them for now. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ any suggestions on how to get the lower bearing brace out? I've been beating on it but there is hardly any surface area to get a punch on! I tried spraying it with wd40 and using several different types uf punches and prybars...but like I said, just nothing to get a tool on it! It is recessed so I can't use asocket like I did on the top. Typing with one hand cause the other is soaking in salt water after smashing it with a hammer...but I'm still having fun!
  21. Without a doubt this forum is the best thing since sliced bread! You can see multiple threads by me asking all kinds of dumb questions....and nobody even insults me! (too much) I love blondes.. I have an 83 blonde waiting for me to do some work on it. It's been sitting a year now. I would be willing to bet that the lack of power is because you are only running on 3 cyl. Don't be surprised....It wasn't until I got my 84 and I felt the difference that I realized I must only be running on 3....it still runs that good! When these run right.....they are powerful and fast! The front brake lever only activates one caliper...the foot pedal squeezes the other caliper and the rear combined. That could explain the lack of front brake. You may need to bleed the system??? Let it cool off, then start it and feel the headers on all 4 cyl. You should be able to feel the difference if one is not firiing. From there you get to check if it is carberation or electrical. Run a few tanks with heavy doses of SEAFOAM, change the plugs and wires and see what happens. If you still have problems...ask away!
  22. Thanks for the heads up Earl...I'll save them for my 83...by the way....the number you gave me is different from the one in your profile.....which I called earlier today...but all is good now. I"ll just put the anti dive back on for now and do the block off's another time. Reason for pulling it all apart is to replace the steering head bearings and doing the progressives while its all apart.. Rocket called me and helped out a lot with how to go about it. Gotta love this site....With all this help even somebody like me can get thru jobs like this. (Just exactly which end of the wrench are you supposed to use again?)
  23. OK..Forks are drained, anti dive parts are off. Before I do anything else stupid....I figured I'd ask first. the brackets where the cross over hose connects up near the triple tree. Is that supposed to just slide off? I can't see any kind of clamp but when I try to remove the forks they get hung up on that bracket (with a clunk) so it sounds like a lip in the way. With Skydoc's block off plates, there is a set of bolts with a hole drilled thru them. I am thinking they go in place of the hoses? They came with 2 brass washers for each bolt...do I use 2 on one hose replacement bolt ? Once the forks are out...how do I get to the bearings. (that's what I figured out....still need help with cross over hoses....they are supposed to be removed when I do the block off plates yes? Am I getting over analytical or paranoid.....YES I AM!
  24. Already have the caps off and the springs out....just gotta drain the oil and put the progressives in.
