You can see in the attached pictures what Carl means about having to watch his step! Unless he was referring to the "little ones"...my 2 pain in the butt yappie dogs and their landmines. Even the garage is a bit of an obstacle course....too many bikes....too many parts (I'm sure there will be some left over) and too much STUFF! I must have asked Carl several times; "do you have any idea what this is?" Yvette says "if you want to find a plastex expert...just find a nail tech who does acrylic nails." She used to own a salon in Welland...and worked doing nails for many years.

Well, I guess Carl had a free day so he came to visit. I'm just under 2 hours away from Ottawa. Carl showed up about 11:30 or so and after we ate, we went to work. He helped me UNDO several things I had done wrong...and we got my 88 almost all put back together. I"ve still got to bleed the clutch, and finish putting some plastic on...and the wiring is a mystery in so many ways!!!! But it still runs and the important lighting works so I'll be able to get it saftied and on the road. I was hoping to have it on the road so carl could ride the 84 while I had the 88 but there was just to much to do ...and undo...then redo....then redo again properly! I still have to work on quite a few things...but winter is months long....and the riding season is almost over so non-essentials can wait! Many thanks to Carl for an enjoyable and productive day. I learned a lot.

But that is why you saw stress joints into the floor .....if it cracks, it cracks where the saw kerfs are...nice straight lines and then they don't stand out.

I seem to remember that to build a car from parts (new) was 7 times the retail price. That was a number I was told many years ago so I don't know if it still applies or if it was ever accurate!

Think a change of underwear would be in order after this...
Trader replied to DanOh's topic in Watering Hole
no...the oncoming vehicle was for sure hogging the center...you can see he/she is well away from the shoulder when they get past. but it does look a bit set up you hear the bike's rev's lower...not drastically like a panic stop...just more like hesitation he leans into the oncoming truck ...likely was set up just for the sake of the video -
Thinking about buying a Venture...Question.

turn signal won't stay on
Trader replied to Steveroge's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If I remember correctly, my 83 needed to be pressed DOWN, (as in vertically), not IN (horizontally) to cancel the signals. Is it possible that the spring mechanism that holds it up has got gummed up and it is jammed in the down position? (Any little blue pills for signal switches?) If that doesn't work...here's a tutorial from Dingy on cleaning the switch. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=43025 -

Not meaning to dig up any skeletons....thier blurb just seems a bit misleading .....as if you are still associated on that site with them.

Hey Don, I signed up for the other site over a year ago and just tried to get on it...but my "membershp" has expired. Oh well....I like it here much better anyway. But I looked at the "history page" and they say..... Later in 1997 Don Nelson of Texas (at the time), in a unrelated effort, started a discussion forum based on the Yamaha Venture Royale he had just purchased. The two websites continued to grow independently throughout 1997 into early 1998. In 1998, Jeff Cranfill, of North Carolina, was visiting these two sites that he frequented, looking for information about his Venture Royale when he had an idea...why not join Bob's webpage and Don's forum into a central gathering place for Venture owners? He presented the idea to the gentlemen, who, after a little prodding, agreed to join and become VentureNet, The history never says anything about a split or mentions VR.org So what's the REAL history there? Inquiring minds (ok...nosy minds) want to know!

I've got the Dunlop 404's on all 3 of my ventures...So far-so good.

Glad you are OK! You know....as we get older we don't bounce as well as we used to. Been there....done that....luckily it was on wet grass at low speed. Yet another reminder of the importance of wearing the gear. without the helmet we could easily have had yet another sad story!

Trader replied to 54chevybelair's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
oh nevermind...I thought it was a "GARAGE PAD" for sale. -
check all the connections again. There was a recent thread that sounded very similar to this and it was just a bad connection...even though he THOUGHT he had checked, cleaned and tightened them.

Try calling a freight company. Being a freight company they may refuse , but If you drain all the gas out of the bike they MIGHT be willing to transport it. Manitoulin Transport did a large package for me (that wasn't crated) and were very reasonable...but it wasn't a motor vehicle so I don't know for sure if they will or not. Just a thought.

What's with all the funny talk? Strange indeed. I don't have time to indulge in such foolishness. I"m going to be spending the day copying new movies and downloading illegal music to sell to my friends! Or perhaps I'll get my friend the corporate executive to leak me some company secrets I can sell to the highest bidder.

What's with the clutch?

Skydoc's ads are listed in the "member vendor" forum Here's the link for a 1st gen upgrade....I guess Earl hasn't re-posted his 2nd Gen ad. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=62483 Anyway...you can always PM him. I've bought a few things from Skydoc...always top notch and a world of advice on installing what he sells (or most anything else to do with these bikes!) -
On a recent transatlantic flight, a plane passes through a severe storm.. The turbulence is awful, and things go from bad to worse when one wing is struck by lightning. One woman in particular loses it. Screaming, she stands up in the front of the plane. "I'm too young to die," she wails. Then she yells, Well, if I'm going to die, I want my last minutes on earth to be memorable! "Is there ANYONE on this plane who can make me feel like a WOMAN?" For a moment there is silence. Everyone has forgotten their own peril. They looked, riveted, at the desperate woman in the front of the plane. Then an Italian man stands up in the rear of the plane. He is gorgeous: Tall, well built, with dark black hair and brown eyes. He starts to walk slowly up the aisle, unbuttoning his shirt .....one button at a time. ................No one moves. ...............He removes his shirt. ................Muscles ripple across his chest. ...............She gasps. .................He whispers: .............."Here, iron this, and get me something to eat..." OK...so I'm a male Chauvanist Pig! That's right up there with .... Why do brides wear white? Well you want the dishwasher to match the stove and fridge! OK...let the berating begin!

I thought the police officer was a bit "distracted" and not really much help in the rescue. It looks like he was going to direct traffic...but then came back to help lift the car...but couldn't really get near it for all the people that already had it up! Once the victim was pulled out from under...it doesn't look like he "attended" to him right away. But as was said in a previous post...you have to give follks the benifit of the doubt. We weren't there.

I bought the 83 first. It was my first bike since the early 90's (raising a family etc) After having it for a few months I realized I wanted to do a lot of work for "upgrades" etc on it. I found my 94 plain jane venture for an excellent price and all it needed was tires to get on the road. So the 83 is in pieces and I'm riding the 84. But then....I found an 88 royal on Ebay, along with a trailer for a price I just couldn't say no to. It also is in pieces while I fix up a few minor issues. The 84 is sold, with a deposit on it so I'll be back down to the 83 and the 88 soon. Once the 83 is fixed up...it will be sold too. Insurance here in the Great White North is just too much to have both on the road at the same time. ($600 each for just liability and it doesn't matter if you have one or six bikes....$600 each!)

Can youi imagine the embarrassment and ribbing the Yamaha staff have to put up with at trade shows etc when they STILL have a cassette deck for 2012! Other than truck stops and yard sales...do any of the music shops still sell cassettes?
