I enjoy the "banter"...but I agree it should NEVER go beyond good natured ribbing. I mean who of us is right 100% of the time? (Put your hand down Carl!) We all make misteaks (catch that ?) ....some of us more so than others...and we all have our opinions...even if yours are wrong! I have been lambasted a couple of times for comments I have made. But I EXPECT that other's comments are made with the best intentions , and hopefully, people will read my comments with the expectation that I also mean no hurt, no harm, no foul. I guess what I'm saying is we should always try to live by the "golden rule".

I emailed "Slipstreamer" to ask if I could use Rain-x or if I should stick to waxes like pledge. ..this is the response I got. Red font is just to highlight. As for cleaning and Rain-X, you cannot use either of those products. The use of them will crack the shield. You must use products made for plastic only. We recommend our polish first since we developed it in house and use it every day. You can see in under Misc at Slipstreamer Motorcycle Accessories . Other okayed products include Plexus and Mirror Glaze by McGuire's. Thanks/Safe riding, Slipstreamer, Inc. 10820 Mankato St NE Blaine, MN 55449 email: slipshield@aol.com www.slipstreamer.com

Rode 3 hours in the rain today. I actually enjoyed it...but then I'm a sick puppy. I enjoy riding period! CRUISE CONTROL WORKS! WOOOO HOOOO!!!! All it was was the hose came off the pump or whatever in the lower right faring. It does seem as if it drops about 7 mph from the "SET" speed before the cruise actually kicks in. I have to hold the Accel. to bring it back up to the desired speed./ Any thoughts on that?

If everybody added the State or Province to the Town on their profile it would work perfectly. For example, you should enter "Rockwood, TN" and everybody would find you no problem

The PO wired up air horns but they are wired to a different button on the handle bars that is not easily reached. Sort of defeats the purpose if I have to go hunting for the button every time. So, I want to use the original horn button. The compressor is mounted just under the passenger back rest, with the horns under the saddlebags. I have print outs and directions on wiring the relay into the horn switch. My questions are..... The instructions say "20 amp fused from batt to post 87". Is this an extra inline fuse direct to batt post or do I just come off the fuse block using that fuse? Can I hook into the pink and brown wires right down beside the OEM horn and run the 2 wires to the back or does it have to be hooked in up near the button for any reason? Can I remove both OEM horns or is there any reason I would have to leave leave one on. If I decide to add a steibel horn as well, (which I am thinking of doing) do I need to run a 2nd relay or can I just tap into the same circuit as the existing air horns. When I add running lights, do I use the same fuse as in question #1 , run another inline fuse or what?

Is cruise totally not working or intermittent. Total not working Try holding set button in for 3~5 seconds & see if that helps. Do indicator lights in pod change when you try to engage cruise? I noticed different lights coming on when I was moving....but didn't see pattern. I'll check some things out and get back to you on it. Something to check that will cause cruise issues is the amount of slack in the cable from the bellows to the throttle cable junction box. PIA to check cause left front fairing has to come off. Free play is supposed to be 1/16". Other issues could be loose or bad switch/housing on clutch. First place I'll check...not started in gear so probably issues here. Brakes are easy to verify as brake light will not work correct if these have issues, but the clutch side is a little sneakier. Do the turn signals self cancel? Yes..not sure if time or distance triggers it. If not this could indicate a problem with the reed switch in the speedometer head. Same switch is tied to holding speed & sending info to turn signal cancel circuit. Could be dirty contacts in throttle side switch. Cruise is hard to troubleshoot, cause it don't work below about 30mph, hard to test in the garage.Manual says in 5th...is that the only gear it will work in? Gary -

yep...3 lights go on...for about 1 sec as they are supposed to...then all go off except power. I haven't done the troubleshooting in the manual yet....thought I'd try and stop blowing fuses first!!!! -

OK ....trunk light...so which ONE of the wires should be live? I"m thinking the one with the white bands? I hate wiring issues. I found one added on wire for my extra running lights that was flattened and exposed where it was pinched. That explains the fuses blowing. A couple wires with cracks in the insulation that might also have been causing problems. Thanks Dano....I guess if I had looked at the manual I would have figured that much out! The pics in the manual are really hard to see details in...but the general area should have been pretty obvious! I found the other "plug" too....I never knew there was a filter back there! So what is the "solvent" the manual says I should clean this filter with? -
seems a bit drastic just to get rid of a bee!

See the attached pictures. The wires in question look like Black with red line running the length of the wire and black with intermittant white bands. They go into the wiring harness thru the plug shown on top of the chrome bar. 2nd picture shows black with white bands better. Neither one seem to carry power! I've tried lights, brakes, accessory switches, cruise on/ pushed set, accel, cancel....nothing! The large clear hose you see is for my air horns. Also, the soft rubber plug on the air intake for the cruise pump...is it supposed to go into a hole somewhere? I don't see anywhere for it to mount into. Or is it not a plug? Almost feels like it could be a bellows or something. My cruise isn't working so I'm trying to figure that out also.

Rear Cylinders dead.
Trader replied to mechanic1's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
When you put it all back together, get some stick on velcro and just mount the TCI on top of the air box. That way it is much more accessable in case of future problems. The cable should be long enough...it just sort of flips up and over. You may have to cut one of the mounting tabs so it will slide far enough forward to clear the top of the tank cover. Most folks do that. Probably a thread on here about that somewhere. -
I can see claiming costs for ACTUAL costs backed up by a receipt. But how can you charge someone for "could have been" costs? I understand your frustration and I would be really upset myself....but I don't know if you can do much without receipts to back it up. I had a station pump a few gallons of regular gas into my diesel truck before I realized what he was doing. I stopped in front of the diesel pump and he pulled the regular hose to reach. He said "leave it with me and I'll drain the tank." I came back later that day and he had just dumped it all out on the ground beside the station!!!!!
