  1. I thought you were saying you were going to be in a newspaper!!!!
  2. We are on the "fringe" of politicial statements...so I'll go on the "fringe" of religious statements. I wish to say, without any preaching of one faith over another, and acknowledging that many of us here have a belief in the Bible, it is truely amazing how accurately the Bible fortold the events of today. Read 2 Timothy chapt. 3: verses 1-5. It's like reading the newspaper! When you combine that along with Matthew Chapt 24 and Luke 10, where it speaks of world hunger, wars, disease, Massive earthquakes and the world wide preaching work that being carried on.....( Matt 24:14) you can certainly see where we are in the stream of time!
  3. I purchased a set of saddle bag lid rails from SOMEBODY???? on the forum last year. To save on shipping they were sent to Bongobobny and he brought them up to MarCarl's in Brantford. Paysaw got them off Carl figuring he was a bit closer...but I just never had a reason to go there. FINALLY, Ray (Paysaw) was coming out this way and I met him and his lady at a Tim's in Kingston. Unfortunately it was a very brief meeting...but it was nice to put a face to the name. I wanted to say THANK YOU to EVERYONE involved in getting these to me. Gotta love this site!
  4. Replaced spark plugs and coils...still no go the the PCM must be fried.
  5. I was talking to the mechanic at the Ford dealer. He told me the tech bulletin says the problems I am having only affect about a 6 month production run of 2005's . In a perfect world FORD would have sent out a notice to the owners of those vehicles to give us a heads up! But they get to make a whole lot of more money this way. Probably the last ford I'll ever buy.
  6. Well, for the non-believers, there IS a Ford notification about it. (My retired mechanic friend had heard about it.) I think it might only affect the earlier years. I have done no electrical work, and the cables, battery etc are all in fine shape. This started as the occasional miss when it was damp. I had a freind put a code reader on it and he said I had a bad coil. I replaced the coil and it was good for a few months. then yesterday, it was stumbling at about 2500 rpm. Ok above that. We've had a fair bit of rain the last week so I assumed it was more of the same. But then I started to leave, it was stumbling really bad and quit. After that it would fire very roughly with the starter engaged but not run. It seemed very much like a fuel delivery problem, but that was all good. But if you believe it or not is up to you. I wanted to give everybody the heads up and hopefully avoid what I'm going thru. I'd encourage anyone who might be affected to to investigate on their own and act accordingly.
  7. I don't know too many details...mine is 2005 but I would assume all V-6 would be the same. I think mine is a 3 litre I just wanted to give everybody a heads up so you don't have the same experience I did. Call the dealer or a mechanic or someone who knows and get some more information. Better safe than sorry!
  8. I found out something very interesting today. My 2005 Ford Escape died on the side of the road. (Yes I know what FORD stands for!) It seemed like it was being starved for fuel..but I checked and the pump and the filter were just fine. So I had it towed to the dealer. It seems the platinum plugs that are supposed to be good for over 100,000 km (60,000 miles) are NOT! In fact...what happens is as the plug wears, the gap increases. This causes the coils (one for each plug) to work harder which in turn causes radio frequency interference which fries the main computer. So...my dead truck cost me -6 new plugs at $8 each. -6 new coils at almost $100 each:mo money: Plus the new PCM or TCI or whatever they call the main computer a$1,125 (or if could try and find a used one at $750) To change the rear plugs and coils they have to remove part of the intake manifold so lots of labor and a gasket to boot. Total cost of the repair? $2,550.00:mo money: All because of worn out plugs. (my truck only has 90,000 km) The mechanic is the son of a family friend, and he suggested the main computer might not be fried....that I should change coils and plugs and try it. He said the bad parts could cause the computer to show as bad also. I might get lucky...but then again this is ME we are talking about. :mo money:I got it towed home and will try to do it myself.... Did I mention $2500????:crying: So there goes the international, :smile5:Friday the 13th, some safety chrome and a few other things like food and utilities for the next few months.
  9. NOOOOOOOO! I've only done a couple of steel roofs BUT..... Put the screws on the RISE...not the valleys! Water runs down the valleys!!!!!!! overlap the panels by 1 rise. Screws should be about every 2' vertically and about every 1' horizontally That's the way it is done if you are using the 'wavy" panels with 2-3" ribs. If you are using something else then I can't help you but I know that you don't want the screws in the valleys where the water is! You don't want too much screw sticking thru the OSB into your attic because frost will form on the screw, then melt and you will have a wet mouldy attic.
  10. OK...my switch is cracked across the screw shown with the red line 0n the picture Gary posted. Is the switch toast or will that make any difference? I can always try to glue it once I get it out again. Sorry to ask so many stupid questions....but I don't want to have to do this multiple times!
  11. Peeing out 2 1/2 litres....hmmmm.......sounds like too much beer to me! Glad you're home and feeling a bit better. Now listen to the doctors and get more better!
  12. OK guys.... this is for my 88 I now have a new pin, o-ring and spring. Now I'm POSITIVE that underneath the gear indicator switch was a steel rod, about 1'8" in diameter with a nice rounded end that made contact with the underside of the switch. I didn't see any spring, removable end or screw. Perhaps a PO put the pin in backwards??? I only pulled the pin out about an inch or so cause I didn't I didn't know what I was doing and I didn't want to damage anything or drop anything inside the gearbox. Comments? Pictures? I am assuming the new pin should go right under the switch, but like I said...all I saw was a nice rounded end of the rod.
  13. TCI will be different on 83 from 84-85 Something to do with the vacume hoses to carbs??????
  14. I'm running VISTA Home 64 bit. I have both 32 bit and 64 bit IE version 9 installed The computer did an automatic upgrade of Flash player even though it says it is not compatable with Vista 64 bit. I've tried (several times) to download a different version but it always seems to default to version 11. Any suggestions? I can't view a lot of YouTube stuff because it needs Flash.
  15. Me too!...and most of the other parts I've bought! Even after exchange rate and shipping Earl is still cheaper than the Stealer.
  16. As the years pass you just don't bounce as good as you used to!
  17. Aw Bob just needs to get away somewhere for a rest after Americade! Get better quick Bob! Don't ya know....hospitals are not good places to be...they are full of sick people!
  18. So the suggestion is I should just order a new PIN? This is for my 88.Sorry If I wasn't specific enough.
  19. But can I reuse the new gasket and crush washer after a week or so of being on the bike?
  20. Not sure you do have what I need! I know my 83 doesn't have the shift indicator on it. My 84 did. But Thanks anyway.
  21. I"m doing the clutch slave cyl and figured I'd tackle the gear indicator issue while I was in there. Mine reads 4th gear for everything except 5th That part was not really planned cause I didn't even realize the switch was in there!! Anyway, I did the testing as per the manual and I guess the switch is bad. Any body got a GOOD shift indicator switch they want to part with? How much is a new one here in Canada? I really dont' want to try building up the contacts with solder like I read in one thread...I"d rather just change the switch. If I go ahead and do the slave cyl. and put the cover back on....do I have to order another gasket and crush washer to do the switch later or can I just re-use the "new" ones I would have just put in?
  22. Thanks for the suggests and offers folks. There are several local shops with the rectangular ones. I had checked princess Auto, CTC, Nappa, Parts Source....and nobody had the 1" round convex mirrors. Smallest they had was 1 3/4" I think I'll go with the rectangular. I just want to eliminate the blind spot.
  23. It was from ME.....no really!
  24. I'm only getting about 135 miles to a tank. I haven't checked the actual mpg but I know it is BAD!!!!
