Edited to completely rewrite!!!! Hose from #2 carb to vacuum sensor: When it is disconnected from the air box the bike idles wonderfully. When I hook it up the idle jumps to 3200 rpm. I have checked for air leaks around the carbs and that is not an issue. so what is the problem? Why the jump in idle rpm? I ended up just dialing back the idle with the hose connected to vacuum sensor attached. It seemed reasonable! KIC.....is there any chance that hose is the one that goes from the airbox (front left) and "t"'s into the other airbox hose? The one that goes into the tube between the carbs on the "box" on top of the crankcase? http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=65439&d=1332797233 see illustration #3

I know on the 1st gens there is a mute button that if you accidentally put it on you can still hear it if you crank it up ..but if you Unmute it it will blow your ears out!

not my cup of tea...I Just can't get past the looks of the back end. I can see how it would be a "love it or hate it" thing. Hope you have many many miles of fun and safe riding on it!

The latest episode....here we are a couple of weeks later and the check engine light came on. Took it to the dealer and at first they were saying the Cat that they replaced looked to be bad so they would be covering it for free. Then they changed their minds and said "Nope....it's the other one" They already had changed 2 previously ($2100) and this one is $1200 and 3 hours labour. By the time this is done I'll be into repair bills on this #### car for 4 1/2 grand !

Well, I finally figured out the drain (can you say Duh!?) Blew out every oriface I could find, now I'm trying to put the airbox back on. I've been playing around with the one hose that runs from the back of the airbox iinto the case at the center of the carb rack. What a PITA!!!!!!! Is there an easy way to do it? I've tried putting it on the air box....and fishing it thru (closest to success) and I've tried putting it on the center pipe and then mounting the box (not even close to getting it. It would help if I had extra long needle nose....might just go buy some tomorrow! For tonite...I give up! It's been a long day!

I figure I'm going to leave around 6:00 am....that'll get me to Toronto around 8:30-9:00 or so. Anybody want to hook up and ride to Port Dover? I lived in Hamilton and Dunnville for over 30 years but never made it to Dover for a Friday 13th! Now I'm almost 5 hours away I'm going to go!

It seems that a lot of folks get a wobble when the let go of the handle bars (without hands far off!!!!) and decelerate. I've noticed it starts to wobble on a couple of different bikes so it must be a common thing.

thanks guys...I'm going to have to find some pictures in the manual to figure out where you mean. I"m just not getting it. See the attached picture...I thought the plug circled in red was the drain plug To drain the float area. this is obviously a set of carbs off the bike and upside down I just got a flash!...is it the drain screw I circled in blue?

Again...on my 88 That intermittant overflow is now happening almost always...but NOT always! I have discovered that it is from the #3 carb (rear right when sitting on it) There were no air leaks as before I pulled things apart I sprayed either and carb cleaner (different times) with no noticeable difference I have the air box completely off and the diaphragm and slider out. There are no holes in the diaphragm. SO...is there an "easy" way to get to the drain plug? Once I drain the carb....and hopefully flush away any obstructions...can I or should I try to blow anything into the float bowl? ie. carb cleaner...compressed air? Is it possible to adjust the float with the carb on the bike? If so HOW?

yep...them's the ones! It's awkward to try and get the lock closed with the helmet loop on it without the extensions. I also like the "flash" from them hanging there.

Any of you folks who are into making things out of stainless want to try making a set of helmet lock extensions? On Ebay they want $65 by the time you pay shipping!!!!!! I wouldn't want to pay more than 1/2 that!

Storage Space (capacity)
Trader replied to Rosie1965's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
should be easy to find out..... First,,,,,get a big hose. Fill containers so you can measure while you dump the water into the saddlebags Then drain them and go for a ride with the covers off to dry them out. If I can help in any other way just ask! That's what we are here for! -
Do you mean like FLIES? What's up with that anyway?

Started tinkering with the 87 and ended up with this....
Trader replied to KIC's topic in Watering Hole
Gotta wonder in places where helmets are manditory. Would just the driver need one....or those in the rumble seats? Can't imagine inside needed any...but then....it IS a trike! Hmmmmmm? -
So here's the story relating to my 88. When I first got it I needed 1/2 choke just to keep it running. MARCARL and I cleaned out every oriface possible with the carbs still on the bike with carb cleaner and compressed air. We set it up best he could and since then I have seafoamed it with a very strong mixture overnight a few times, and add several ounces every 3-4 tanks. Once in a while I put in a heavier dose . It's had at least 8-10 cans thru it. I had a case of a sticky float (I think)on the #3 carb earlier this year as gas was pouring out the overflow tube. But it "fixed" itself when I tapped on the carb body with the handle of a screwdriver (I was on the side of the road at the time). Again...dosed with seafoam and it seemed to be OK for quite a while. Now I'm smelling gas (no overflow) and the idle usually but not always wants to hang up around 2500 rpm. What messes me up is that occasionally it is just fine! (900-1000) I"m finding I don't need any choke to start it. I bought a 2nd carb rack (minus diaphragms and sliders) and I have diaphragms and the basic VMAX ebay carb kit. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions. Even changing out the carb rack would be a major undertaking for my wrenching comfort level so I'd like to wait for off season to do that.

Reserve Tank Question
Trader replied to cabreco's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Well this all confirms the fact I'm getting lousy gas mileage. I"m getting about 135 miles to a tank. I've got to get at those carbs but I don't want to stop riding long enough to get it done. -
Don't worry, I'm sure it will all work out in the end! Been there...done that... not so bad. I watched the screen....looked like silk!
