at 5:00 Dogs were going wild...so I went to investigate. a bear came and tried to get into our garbage box. The first bear was standing on top of the garbage box right outside my window! I could have reached out and touched it! But he couldn't figure out how to get into the box. I tried to get some pictures thru the window but all I got was blurry screen. 6:00 another one came by...by now I was awake enough to figure out how to use the camera. This must just be a cub because .this one is MUCH smaller than the first. The big one just sort of looked at me and couldn't care less. The pics of the smaller one are just below the deck on the ground....no more than 10 feet away from where I was standing taking the pictures.

Now why would you want to do that and ruin a perfectly good bike? Touring bikes are not supposed to sound like they belong on the track. Besides, there's already to many idiots around making noise on bikes!
-
She's so skinny the wind drag on that monster would pull her right off the bike!

Hope everything works out OK. I know it's tough on you too Tom. Hang in there. Give your wife our best wishes.

EVERYBODY KNOWS FIRST GENS ARE FASTER! Well, at least that's what those of us who own 1st Gens say. 2nd gen owners seem to have a different opinion. I have an 83 restoration project, owned an 84 and ride my 88 It boils down to what you want in a bike. The look of the bikes are completely different. The seating position of each is drastically different with leg and foot positioning. The 1st Gens have a sportier look and feel to them but are very comfortable on long rides. Some people don't like the "feet under" position. The 2nd gen's laid back cruiser feel with more forward foot position is great for those "harley wannabe's" (ohhh... I'm gonna git it for that!") First Gens are approaching 20-30 years old. You have to expect to do some repairs and upgrades, but there is a LOT of help on this forum to accomplish pretty much anything. As to the 2nd Gen....I'll let someone else comment on them. All I know is what I've learned from this site...mainly that over the years, they are basically unchanged other than color. They both share an amazing power plant.

How many miles did you run flat? It looks like you tried to limp home from Alabama!

My 83 restoration is a blonde. And of course we all know Blondes mean more fun! From the pics I can think of a few bits of safety chrome that you might find yet! Trust me....it will probably NEVER be finished! These folks on here have helped me a lot! If you need new parts...check with Skydoc17 (a member here) first. He's saved me a bunch of money and seems to provide free technical support with all his parts.

Hey if you've got "nothing to do" come on up to our place! I've got a deck to build, 3 outside doors with frames to install,a bathroom to renovate, a patio door that leaks to track down and fix, 3 windows to remove, rebuild the walls around them and re-install. I'm sure we could keep you busy for a week or so:whistling:

Thats what the red button he referred to does. Automatically goes to channel 9 Is it possible the button is not stuck..but the contact is? -
Please bear with me here....... somehow I would never have thought it possible that putting one end at the fuse would work. I mean...doesn't the current have to go thru the coils, tci and ????who knows what else before it gets to the fuses? So how is going thru all that checking the SP wire? If the tci or coils were weak or bad corroded connections or ????? wouldn't that affect the reading?

I learn so much from this site. I always thought the Schneider valve was metric! Venture tech help $12 a year Entertainment value Priceless!

It's molding putty you heat up, wrap around a peg to get the shape, peel off the putty, then fill it with the plastex. Then, when you need a different part, you just heat up the putty again and press it onto whatever you need to copy. I've used it for the loops as well as the pegs and even corners on farings etc. To be honest, my wife has done most of it...she is a retired nail tech so has lots of experience in forming acrylics! I always put a bit of powder and liquid at a time to ensure I don't end up with any dry spots. Use the plastex to stick the new peg in place and you have a good as new repair! I usually build up the base of the peg a bit to give it a good foundation.

easy answer is to find a member close by with a good TCI and try swapping it out. Long answer is that there is a thread on here explaining procedure to test TCI. I'm lousy at electrics...but reading your last post sounds like the coil is NOT good. -
The TCI is above the front cyl. beside the coils. A bit of a pain to get to. It's real easy to relocate to the top of the air box. The wires will allow it to be moved. You might just have to trim off one of the screw tabs to allow it to move far enough forward so the false tank lid will sit down properly. I put a strip or 2 of velcro to hold mine in place. Easy to flip out of the way if I need to get into my airbox. Less heat and water exposure in there

:think:Hey Mike....could you explain EXACTLY how to do a "simple" resistance test for us "simple" minded folk? I think I can figure out which setting to use on the tester:doh: but beyond the VERY basics I'm lost electrically. ..so I stick one probe up the spark plug wire...but where would I find the ignition fuse? You don't mean in the main fuse block do you??? also confused by "on the rear and on the front"....you mean the coils that run those cyl? sorry...I'm lost!

Yep.....center of photograph, just under the banner. I can see it clearly! Where is Sturgis again?

OldGoat....A bad day doing anything beats a good day being dead! I've noticed quite a few of your posts are downers. Don't get me wrong...me and a great many here are always willing to give a listening ear and help if we can. But it sounds a lot like you might be battling depression. I know very much how that feels. There were times I didn't want to face the world for anything...just leave me alone and let me be. No ambition, no energy and no fun! I would be down for weeks at a time. ..but with help from a very basic drug (Citalophram) I now have very few bad days. And it's not like it's a "happy pill". It doesn't boost you up...just stops you from going down. At least it works for me....and has next to no side affects ...a bit of an upset stomach for the first week or two...that was all! Talk to your Doc. You'll be glad you did!

Not nice to refer to Taters as the meat of the venture riders. might be considered sexist!
