Here is the thread to replace shift segment
I guess you have to copy the link and paste it into your browser

I've emailed to see if I can get the videos.
I guess that is my only hope.
Im amazed nobody here has ever done a valve job!
I sure can't afford to pay someone to do it for me.
my next choice is to see if someone has a low mileage motor.
Nobody ?
I need some help here!
I have never been this deep in a motor before.
Also, could someone please explain the process for removing the valve guides and seals?
the manual and video don't explain the how...they just say to do it.
In the manual under the special tools, it's hard to figure out The diagram of the valve guide remover on how to use it
the re installer just looks like a spacer.
Most stuff is interchangeable.
Engine,transmission ,rad, starter, yes
clutch is different
body panels yes
brake calipers, forks, anti dive and I think TCI no
I made up a valve spring compressor by cutting up a socket and using a C-clamp
But now I still have to remove the valve seals to get the valves out.
The manual calls for a special tool but is this really needed or is there something else that works.
If I have to buy a special tool is it specific to Yamaha or can I buy one elsewhere?
be REAL careful when you do the shims. If the tools slips or if you feel any resistance STOP!!!!
I used a tool that had been broken and re-welded and I think it had bent so the opening was a bit wide and it didn't fit the cams properly.
In my ignorance I used it any way and in so doing I mashed some of the aluminium between the lifters.
I've tried grinding but several of the lifters are jammed.
So now I had to pull the motor out of my parts bike and I'm going to use the heads off that. A LOT OF WORK!!!!
Like I said...tread lightly.
They say you learn from your mistakes and Hindsight is 20/20.
I should be a genius by now an be able to see a pin head at 200 yards!
Carl, I'm really sorry to hear about Marca's Mom.
Please accept my condolences to both of you and give Marca a big hug for me.
Remnd her of the promise at John 5:28,29.
My wife said sell the bike.
My first thought was "I can't do that!"
But then I reasoned... She had quite a few miles on her and the suspension was starting to sag.
She leaked gas, was getting hard to start in the mornings and that whine just drove me crazy sometimes
But even so, I still enjoyed the occasional ride.
I'm going to miss her.
The divorce becomes final next month
No....looser but still not free.
But now the motor is out it might be easier to grind.
There was just no room at the front.
I'm butchering the lifters in the process.
so far I've been working on just the 2 cyl 3 exhaust lifters
I'm going to pull the heads regardless.
I'm thinking if I can push the valves up then it might be easier to remove the lifters....giving better access to grind the head as required.
As it is now I can't get to all of it.
Replacement lifters are $40 each!!
Head gasket about the same.
looks like I'll be tearing into the parts bike for lifters anyway...might as well harvest shims too.
you're right again!
Is it getting hard to be humble? lol
I found this on google...
Keys to symbols
U.R Use size (thickness) and/or number as required
couldn't find anything on "OS"
In the parts list for valve lifters (or shim buckets as they have been called) there are 2 listings
see picture...both are part #9
26H21153-00-J0. LIfter, Valve (OS).......16. U.R.
26H21153-00-Y0. Lifter Valve ..............16. U.R.
What at does the (OS) mean and what does U.R. mean?
