  1. Don't be put off by those who say it is a big deal. It's not! I am not much of a wrench as you probably know if you see all the dumb questions I ask....but I replaced my slave cyl. with a new one, without any issues in a surprisingly short time. Hardest part was finagling it in and out....have to manoeuver it just so!

I've seen the same thing....Developer buys property besides a working farm and builds homes. new homeowners then complain about barnyard smells. Farm is forced to shut down. Seems wrong to me.
  3. It might not help fix the problem....but it might end it.
  4. When you say it was "kaput" was it by any chance showing an "E4" error? Because they can be repaired! The is help here on how to resolder the connections...which has brought many Class controllers back from the dead. I just bought a soldering iron and de-solder vacuum so I can work on a few I have with issues.
  5. That seems like a great idea for troubleshooting...but how can you tell the difference between a good circuit and a bad circuit? Will the headlight be noticeably brighter (when the fuse would blow) than normal? Or would it only light if an excess current is present?
  6. My guess would be a worn wire . I know....don't thank me
  7. That's what I was thinking....comfort. I can't imagine any duel purpose bike having the comfort level of the VR, regardless of age. It sounds like you've had to change an engine before....what are you doing to these bikes? I thought they were relatively bomb proof!
  8. Gonna start calling you Eck!
  9. Isn't that the ideal job for contact cement? ...paint both surfaces with it, wait for it to set up a bit then press and roll it together. It stay's "rubbery" when dried. I used "scotch" contact cement on a few jobs and it was not only easy to work with but very strong when dried.

    GoPro flies!

Didn't travel too far as the seagull flies (or crow)...but I'm sure they didn't get all the way there in the time recorded.
  11. sigh.....update your details or signature or at least tell us what kind of bike you have the problem with. Saves us having to look at your profile .....to see you ride a 2nd Gen Sorry....I can't help you with them new fangled devices.
  12. It's got the ding! Let me know if this is OK....yours for the cost of shipping
  13. to my knowledge the only way is to buy a new, used, or different controller.
  14. But our wives don't always appreciate that fact! Oh Come on!! Where's your head at? I'm talking about when riding the bike!!!!!!
  15. Well, at least you got a good answer. I was going to say it "is" broken. And it "does" a bad job of acting as crash bar when sliding along the road
  16. A Cassette!!!!.....Still???!!! REALLY? That is going above and beyond unbelievable...the the point of incredulous! Perhaps when we call Yamaha we should ask them if they know where we can buy cassettes!!! I am really just amazed and dumbfounded.
  17. I sold a camper thru a consignment dealer. Never even thought about the plates. Over a year later I got a bill from a toll highway in Toronto. It was only $25 or so...but still a surprise. I had to go to the Police Station and report the plate "lost or stolen" to avoid the same thing happening again. When I bought my bike from Illinois I rode all the way home, including crossing the border (with the proper paperwork) all with the Illinois plate on it.
  18. My battery sat on a shelf all winter in an unheated garage....I put it in and the bike fired right up. More good luck than good management !
  19. Although I never had the privilege of meeting Mark, it sounds as if he had a wonderful sense of humor...so I think he would have liked this story. My aunt passed away and requested that her ashes be spread out in the ocean near Nova Scotia where they lived. My uncle (who was a grumpy old man) rented a boat and he and guests sailed a few miles offshore for the service. It was a bright sunny day with a bit of breeze and the ocean was a bit choppy. After a very touching service, the time came to spread the ashes. As you may know, after cremation, the crematorium places the remains in a very thick plastic bag. What ensued was a battle of epic proportions that will forever remain in my memory as the last "go round" between my dear Uncle and Aunt. It seemed my aunt didn't really want to go! My poor Uncle was staggering around like a drunk man trying to keep his balance on the pitching deck while pulling and tearing at the bag trying to open it. He had it in the air, under his armpit, between his knees trying to rip, tear or pry the last remains of my aunt out of her plastic prison. Some of the guests started offering words of support and yelled out suggestions on how to accomplish the task. The struggle continued as my uncle staggered and swayed as if to some unheard music. but Dear old aunty just would not co-operate. Finally, he tried a different attack. He attempted pulling the 2 sides away from each other near the center of the top, much like you would a bag of Potato Chips. After a lot of grunting, and stress and strain he succeeded.....sort of. The bag exploded open, showering him with ashes....along with several of the guest who happened to have the misfortune of being downwind. My now white-faced Uncle sputtered and spit out ashes as he said his final parting words to his dear wife..... "OH THE HELL WITH IT!!!" and angrily threw the bag and remaining contents into the ocean. She always said she would have the last laugh! Moral of the story....if you plan such a service..... BE SURE YOU HAVE A KNIFE OR SCISSORS! (some details have been slightly embellished...but essentially a true story)
  20. Didn't know that someone got a picture of the driver that run down and repeatedly ran over the biker last week
  21. Earl was on the site last night at 12:40 am
  22. Here's what I did.....thanks to Golf&Venture. I put LED lights behind the reflector on the trunk box and turned it into a bigger brake light. I have the rear running lights so I thought I needed better visability for the brakes. Well....the flash was so bright on the reflector portion that it overrode the LEDS! the Brake LED's are only on the centre portion of the trunk reflector. Works great in the daylight though and it is very visable...just doesn't take a good picture. I''ll try from an angle and repost later
  23. Well...that is what I would expect a "thermocouple" to look like! (pic #4) So you're probably on the right track by replacing it.
  24. Maybe using the wrong term. The rear are running lights, along with front marker lights. The front lights I want to connect to a 2nd switch are DRIVING lights. Good point on the "keyed" power though.
