  1. wouldn't the plugged filler vent I've read about do the same thing?
  2. People who say "He died the way he would have wanted to" or something along those lines are just idiots. Who wants to slam their bodies into a solid object, get bodies mangled, faces mashed, bones broken and if nothing else have that "oh S***T moment just before impact. I love bikes with a passion....but its not the way any sane person wants to go!
  3. Rather than just provide the link....here's how to find it. On the blue menu bar ....go to > You'll see all the forums on the site. Scroll down to > You'll see the 2nd gen section there EDIT--- I type too slowly!
  4. No......rhymes with "said"....but I think that's another thread. (just the poet coming out in me)
  5. I've been thru the carbs (still on the bike) on my 88 several times with carb cleaner and compressed air. Twice with Marcarl and again myself. I use a few ounces of seafoam every 2-3 tank of gas. The bike does sit a week at a time sometimes when I just can't get out and ride. Here's what happening..... I usually use full choke to start the bike up. It fires right up and seems to run just fine. But...once it warms up....the idle hangs up about 3000 rpm! I don't think its a sticky throttle cable....although I'm going to lube it as the first thing to try. I thought it might be related to the cruise control but even if I don't use the cruise it still hangs up. So where do I start? The International is less than 2 weeks away and I want to get this fixed before I try to ride 1800 miles (return)
  6. Not to worry....just It IS interesting that so much talent has to go south to get recognized.
  7. How to combine religion and politics into one post...... It doesn't really matter.....do you think God cares about a dotted line on a map?
  8. Check out the manual http://api.viglink.com/api/click?format=go&key=e24a6de127caafe43f772df085fb6605&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.venturerider.org%2Fforum%2Fshowthread.php%3Ft%3D3384&v=1&libId=5965dae5-b7d2-4b2f-860d-99c64364cde5&out=http%3A%2F%2Flabs.trunkful.com%2Fvrmanuals%2Findex.cfm&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.venturerider.org%2Fforum%2Fforumdisplay.php%3Ff%3D90&title=First%20Gen%20Service%20Manuals%20-%20VentureRider.Org&txt=http%3A%2F%2Flabs.trunkful.com%2Fvrmanuals%2Findex.cfm&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13738950127719 There is an excellent blow up of the fairing showing how it all goes together
  9. Just what was the camera mounted on?????
  10. That sounds like the switch for the 4 way flashers I'd love to see pictures of the painted and clear coated masters etc
  11. do a search for battery warning bypass.....it's a 10 min job and will cost all of about 10 cents in parts. So simple even I could do it!
  12. well......it could go in the bank.....or perhaps spend it at a store.... or..... Sorry.....it was just too easy!
  13. Made it to Ontario! Thanks!
  14. Marcarl had the stainless ones
  15. As long as it has a sticker on it saying it complies with N/A regulations you will have no problem bringing it over. You might have to send the paperwork to the border a couple of weeks ahead of time (I did with the bike anyway) Because this DOESN'T look home made you might not be able to throw another homemade trailer plate on it and just drive it across.
  16. Mind you ,......I have a first gen..... I replaced the neck bearings, (progressives...although that doesn't really relate) and put a Condor super brace on as well. Everything is tight and shipshape. BUT.....when I'm stopped and give the bars a shake back and forth, I get the same kind of "Echo" shake. The members here just re-assured me that because we are talking about 2 tubes about 3 ft long with a joint in the middle, the front end WILL have a bit of flex or twist movement and it is normal. It rides just fine ....so no problem!
  17. I alot better than a tick......oh never mind!

There's always "Sommersby"....a carbonated 5% hard apple cider that is my new favorite summer drink. Light and refreshing....and tastes great too! (and no....I'm not an employee or salesman for them)
  19. oh oh....what did you do now?
  20. I wouldn't eliminate the front left brake! When you consider 70-80% of your braking comes from the front brake, I would want to keep as much as possible. EDIT....I see you have a trike...maybe more braking with rear but still wouldn't eliminate any! I want to put on stainless lines and delink...but I would never intentionally reduce the braking power on these beasts!
  21. Well, OK then.....2 out of 2 responses say I should not have expected the handle bar clamp. My Bad I guess! Like I said....I was happy with the price...just felt wrong somehow to only get half the mount!
  22. I recently purchased a garmin Nuvii 750 off a member here. I have a couple of questions...... When I was told that the unit "came with a ram mount" was I wrong to expect that that would include the handlebar clamp? All I got was the "frame" piece that holds the gps. When I asked the member about it....he said "I'm buying a bigger unit for my bike so I need that" I can't complain too much....I got the unit and the Ram mount frame for $65 2nd question....I've heard members say they put their own planned routes into the GPS...how does that work? (I'm talking about uploading a route...not entering multiple stops on the gps)
  23. Don't be shy about bringing a bike over the border. I bought my 88 on ebay from near Chicago.....certainly a leap of faith but it was worth it. I was surprised at how little red tape there was to get it across the border! The 1100 mile ride home gave me a great chance to get to know the bike.
  24. For folks who think they may have water in the gas, a few ounces of methyl hydrate works wonders. Often used as gas line antifreeze
