  1. maybe we should vote on that!?
  2. That was a little harsh don't you think? Remind me NEVER to cross you!
  3. My first riding was on my older brother's Triumph 650. Very easy to hot wire! My first bike was a 67 Honda CB-450
  4. Now This, I did not know............................................ Jorge Mario Bergoglio was not the Cardinals' first choice to be the new pope, and to become Pope Francis. Their first choice was, interestingly, Cardinal Hans Grapje. Grapje was raised in a Catholic school in The Hague and, as a young man, aspired to become a priest, but was drafted into the Army during WWII and spent two years co-piloting bombers until his aircraft was shot down in 1943 and he lost his left arm. Captain Grapje spent the rest of the war as a chaplain, giving spiritual aid to soldiers, both Allied and enemy. After the war, he became a priest, serving as a missionary in Africa , piloting his own plane (in spite of his handicap) to villages across the continent. In 1997, Father Grapje was serving in Zimbabwe when an explosion in a silver mine caused a cave-in. Archbishop Grapje went down into the mine to administer last rights to those too severely injured to move. Another shaft collapsed, and he was buried for three days, suffering multiple injuries, including the loss of his right eye. The high silver content in the mine's air gave him purpura, a life-long condition characterized by purplish skin blotches. Although Cardinal Grapje devoted his life to the service of God as a scholar, mentor, and holy man, church leaders felt that he should never ascend to the Papacy. > > > > > > > > They felt that the Church would never accept a one-eyed, one-armed, flying purple Papal leader!
  5. any chance that is just a broken tab tip?
  6. It would help if you told us what kind of bike you have. Is it a first gen or 2nd? Even your profile only says "venture" From what you say so far I'm guessing 2nd gen. But....different animals when it comes to mounting stuff.
  7. also...my 83 heal toe shifter was just plain worn out and probably needs a bushing.
  8. the starter gears are not actually bolted in place and it is possible that they can actually just drop out when the case is opened if you "hook" them when removing the case. They are just sitting on pins. You might want to be sure the gears are all in there and connected to each other. It happened to me. Obviously if you've lost a gear then things aren't going to work. I know when I re installed my toe shifter I had it with the arm pointing down...resulting in the shift issues you have. Easy fix. So...as suggested, just re-orient the shifter on the spline 180 degrees from where you have it.
  9. ah.....the joys of retirement! Do you sometimes wonder how you ever had time to work?
  10. Maybe one can be made up for a venture....and raffled off at the next international. Of course it would have to be a first gen quilt.
  11. Some people are blessed in one way....others, perhaps, in other ways. We all have strengths and weaknesses. This site is about the love of riding....and the technical assistance we get...and some fun on the side! As long as the post is readable, PG rated and not promoting hatred or bias (other than towards harley's:stickpoke:)....then we welcome everyone! I agree poor spelling can make a post hard to understand. But we can figure it out...especially if thoughts are grouped and don't all run together in one long bunch of mixed up letters!.
  12. c'on Jim....tell us how you REALLY feel!
  13. Before I changed the indicator switch it was working exactly the same as it is now. gear indication only in 5th....showing 4th for every other position. Neutral light works still...and it used to show N on the panel...but it seems I've lost that too now.. Like I said....I tested the switch itself (thru the closest plug) and it grounds as it should in each position.
  14. So I imagine the connector close to the CMU must be behind the headlight????????? I can test that plug....but assuming that plug is OK...then what?
  15. While I was in there replacing the stator, I replaced the gear indicator switch...along with the spring, pointer and O-ring. When I put the tester on the positive battery post and touch the shift indicator plug, it shows the switch is working properly in each position. (goes to ground when in that gear. But...the only indication I have on the dash is the neutral light...when in neutral....and the gear display works but only in 4th and 5th (not even in neutral) Would this be a symptom of needing to solder the CMU? Is it even part of the CMU? All other indicators on the CMU work just fine!
  16. Besides looking ridiculous...why would anyone want to put ape hangers on their bikes? It just can't be comfortable to have your arms up at, or over your eye level! Nevermind loss of control etc. oops....did I say that in my outside voice? But....as was said....whatever turns your crank!
  17. I do stuff like that quite often when I fly. Not intentionally though!
  18. Sounds like that man deserves a medal! (hint ....hint...to the mod's)
  19. scary thing is I think I understood most of it!!!!!
  20. DON!!!!! TELL ME IT AIN'T SO!!!!!
  21. If you are logged in to your personal account in Ebay, links won't work. Apparently neither will the Sears link.
  22. The rear tab is broken on mine....and I never even knew there was supposed to be a rubber grommet for the front. ( I learn somethingnew from this forum every day!) Before I put on the large washer on the rear I had the front "float" up a bit...but never came off completely. I always give the cover a good tug backwards before tightening the rear screw.
  23. OK.....FINALLY got the &^%&% computer to recognize the phone and was able to upload the pics. It looks as if it is chewed away....about 1/2 the width of the "bar". Can't tell if it's plastic or magnet or what it is......Looks like cast but can't be sure of nothing. There is nothing like this molded bracket on my 84 parts bike. no sign of the missing bits in the old oil or filter.
  24. OK....do I have a problem here....looks like a chunk is broken off! an now my %&*%*^*^%(*% computer won't recognize my phone to transfer the pics....I"ll try later!
  25. Well....here's what I found. Like I said in another thread....I've got a new looking one from a parts bike. Here's hoping!
