  1. Jealous doesn't even BEGIN to describe how I feel! ENJOY IT!
  2. I called the Harbor Freight store in Watertown N.Y. (closest to Kingston, ON) they told me $329 is the price I asked if any extra shipping charges would apply and they said $329 is the price I pay... OK....so I would have to pay $329 plus NY sales tax....plus the 13% HST on licencing. the border tells me that to licence it in Ontario, I would have to pay $230 for paperwork to the customs on "behalf of the ministry of transportation" Then I have to pay for a safety check to ensure it is safe to licence in Canada. ($45) and of course...the cost of the actual licence ($25 I think) So all told, a $329 trailer is going to cost over $600!!!! Building one is looking better and better!
  3. sorry...didn't mean to steal the thread...I thought it was sort of relevant.
  4. Harbour freight unit has 55mph max towing speed!!!!!! Can that really be true? Price is "Plus shipping" with a $90 "additional" frieght charge. I wonder if Princess auto has something like this in Canada?
  5. I found a set of plans (free) for building a bike cargo trailer using a roof carrier. Looks pretty simple...even for someone like me! And at less than $400 for the parts...a LOT cheaper than most! Thought someone might be interested. http://www.intergate.com/~brianb/bike/MotorcycleCargoTrailer.htm
  6. My 83 VR has a little over 50,000 miles (84,000km) It has a definite chirp that sounds like it's coming from the rear end...and of more concern...the only time I hear the whine everyone is talking about is on corners. Could it be a rear bearing on its way out?
  7. ALWAYS! Here in Ontario we have government paid medical insurance. So I can understand why we have a law mandating helmets. I doubt there is a large income from no helmet fines...but the medical costs of caring for all the vegetables, quads or faceless people caused from no helmets would be huge! I also think smokers should have to pay a health insurance premium...why should the rest of us have to cover their medical costs for their stupidity! (IMHO)...sorry if I offend any smokers....but I'm in the process of watching my Mum die of lung cancer...and its not pretty!0 But that should probably be a different thread I used to wear full face on the sport bike...now its a 3/4 on my 83 VR
  8. When I was with Hughes I used to get about 700 bps download and 50 bps upload. BUT.....If you exceed the usage limit as per your contract with them, they slow you down to about the same as dial up speed for 24 hours. If you call them up they can show you how to check for that. They call it their "fair access policy" or something like that. Whenever I tried to download video it seemed I got dinged!
  9. just be sure to change the feed at least once per week in hot weather...my folks tell me that if it starts to ferment you can kill em! You can hang it almost anywhere. I've had them in front of windows, above the porch rail and from the eaves and yes....from branches of trees too
  10. I deleted my post thinking you were looking for parts for the newer bike!!! "Thirdbike" on this board might have some parts. I found a wrecker north of Kingston that has an old VR....what do you need? I could see if they have it.
  11. Something I never gave any thought to! Thanks for the "heads up" Sorry you had to get "butt up" for us to learn from it!
  12. Can you give us the link or title of the ad....I can't find it
  13. Quote:"OK folks...this appears to be working now" I looked into an ad posted July 3 (1st gen for sale) and tried to put in my Canadian postal code but the input field would only accept 5 characters....we need at least 6...or 7 if you allow for a space between first 3 and last 3 characters. I know you are watching....and I know you are on a well deserved holiday....so when you get back or feel so inclined it is something that perhaps you can look into?
  14. But you seem so nice....sweet even! "if the shoe fits"!!! Hee Hee Hee
  15. Just made $10 donation....$5 for laying the bike over in sand....I detailed that one on the Watering hole shortly after I first joined the group. about 2 weeks later I tried to bleed the clutch but I guess I didn't do it well enough. It was fine at first...but after a few days the air must have moved and all of a sudden the clutch wouldn't completely disengage. I tried to limp home...I was way out in the middle of nowher and was going to putt thru a stop sign....BUT wouldn't you know it...at the last second a see a truck coming! There was no time to find neutral...so I just pulled in the clutch...put on the brakes. BUT....between the bike still pulling and the gravel under my left foot....over she goes! Really I just laid it over. CHA CHING! One good thing....at least I got to try out the method I learned here on picking the beast up! $5 more!....at this rate I'm not sure If I can afford this bike! LOL
  16. I know its been said before....but THANKS for all your hard work on this site. It truely is an awsome site and you certainly set the tone for other members to follow! Please know that requested changes are nice to have, butthese requests are nothing earth shaking so if you can't do it or if it is just too much work...hey we can live with that! So don't broke yourself! Sounds like you are a busy man!....you gotta make sure you have time to smell the roses (or the gas and oil) too!
  17. OK...so I've been onboard here for a couple of months....I've had my 83 vr for about 3 days more than that. It has about 85,000 KM on it My bike is OK...but a long way from fast. I just figured it was the way it is because it is SUPPOSED to be a couch on wheels. My last bike was a 83 Yamaha 900 Seca( inline 4, shaft drive) that was MUCH quicker and the Seca had a heavy sport touring faring on it...and bags too. From what I read here ...they should be pretty quick...(even though mine is not blue!) OR IS THIS JUST B.S. "BRAVADO"....or some sort of "p*ssing match" It idles smoothly, has no miss or sputters all the way thru the rpm range, don't see any smoke from the exhaust. I kick it down to 3rd to pass at 90 km (55mph or so) and it doesn't really pull...more like just steady acceleration.. I've only had it up to about 130 km...but there is more. I'd like to start giving it a complete going over....but I am on a VERY tight budget so I can't rebuild it or anything!!! I'd appreciate any suggestions on where to start
  18. I was told that dry rot spreads....so you have to get it out. I'm not experienced...just what I was told
  19. Its a small thing but it helps....THANKS EH! (I think that's a different thread!) I know my Canadian Geography...but I have to admit I have trouble knowing where some of the states are located...other than a general area. Not that it matters too much for now....I still have to get my passport so I can come visit "y'all" Certainly want to get to next years' MD....and the Dragons Tail sounds interesting. Lots of twisties up here though...so I'm not depraved or anything I mean DEPRIVED.
  20. so all this tech talk means you can do it right???
  21. how about accepting Canadian Postal codes also? There are a LOT of us Canucks here!
  22. Has anyone had any experience with these "combo" replacement bulbs. http://www.customdynamics.com/motorcycle_led_bulbs.htm They can be wired so they are become running lights, extra brake lights as well as signals. But what about the amber lenses? doesn't that mess it up? I really want to increase the visibility at the rear end of my 83 VR If anyone has other suggestions, including what and how to for light bars etc I'm all ears!
  23. I'll drink to that! I'm not really that fat....pockets are jammed full of cassette tapes! LOL
  24. Weird people with lots of money are "eccentric"....the rest of us are just strange. So far I've seen lots of eating, visiting and partying. Some sitting on guard from pond monsters...but only 2 shots of any MAINTENANCE....isn't that the theme of the weekend....MAINTENANCE DAY? I know...thats just the cover
