  1. I don't have it...or a CB on my 83 and it IS a Royale
  2. Well.....that might just come under the heading of too much information. So How's the bike? :rotf:
  3. if someone cuts you off, or swerves into your lane, causing you to avoid and crash without contact....its NOT their fault? I could see that being the case if there are no witnesses....because how would you prove it? BUT someone ususally sees it! Wouldn't witnesses convict them, and more importantly....lay the liability on them?
  4. an '83 doesn't have a gear indicator. At least mine doesn't! I have an 83 and the dash indicator for the sidestand shows the icon when it goes thru the startup sequnce....but doesn't actually show anything when the sidestand is down. Someone here told me there is actually 2 circuits to the side stand switch...maybe that's why????? But....you could have an intermittant switch failure, causing the stall??? Maybe the internal spring?
  5. Next time it happens see if it stalls ONLY in first...you said you could start in 2nd I"m thinking it could be your sidestand switch ...which kills the bike if the sidestand is down (or thinks it is) when in any gear. An intermittant problem could cause you to try to dig further than neccessary...but I'd start with that. Now I should preface that by saying I'm a newbie myself...but I'm sure someone else with more experience will offer their opinion also!
  6. Not sure if this is going over the edge....but its a cute story. Scientists asked God how he created life. God told them he made man from the dust of the earth. So the scientists started digging around in the dirt to see if they could re-create life..... But God said..... OH NO....YOU HAVE TO MAKE YOUR OWN DIRT!
  7. Steve's Bike! But first we have to help out Squidley...cause he really needs some help with.....
  8. so are you saying the the thicker ones were OK or that you had to replace the thicker ones (with presumably thinner ones) a 2nd time?
  9. But still....don't bring your skis across the border in July! There's just not enough room in your average igloo
  10. Works for me! I've been learning a LOT since I joined and still lots more to go! I can vouch that if you need info...someone will step up and help out!
  11. $35 plus about $20 in shipping...is that less than making them up?
  12. Is it possible to block posts from the likes of him? If so...PLEASE DO! I'm sure NOBODY wants to hear that crap :sign09::sign09:
  13. I've done seafoam (twice) (almost $13/can at Napa!) and changed the plugs ...running stronger....but it just doesn't seem to have the power it should! Air filter looks good....haven't changed fuel filter yet but I'm sure that its not restricting fuel flow. Is there anybody in the Eastern Ontario area that could help me do my first carb sync? I don't have the tool either (hey I don't ask for much do I?) I'd happily ride a few hours to get the help to get it done (can't cross to USA...no passport yet!) I'd like to inspect the diaphrams too. Is it a straight forward "open, look, and close" (if there are no holes) or is it more complecated? I guess the reality is I would probably watch someone do it for me unless they were standing over my shoulder guiding me every step of the way. I used to do a bit of mechanical work 40 years ago...forgotten 99% of what little I knew and have VERY little confidence to tackle too much. But the more I do the more I'll learn....I just want to make sure I don't get myself in any trouble in the meantime and end up with a bike that runs so bad it's no fun to ride! (or not at all) I"m figuring I will do wires also Can anybody tell me the lengths I need to make up?
  14. Charging Kit????? Help out a newbie here! What's electrical about air filters? or are these like electro static air cleaners??????
  15. BUMMER! ....sorry to hear that happened! Sounds like you might have some work ahead of you! Did you put any extra pressure to crank down the plug? I always just "snug up" the oil drain...on every motor of any type more because once upon a time I ended up stripping the threads. Tight enough it won't work loose...but not cranked!
  16. one good reason I don't have an intercom! mind you...now all she does is hit me upside the helmet if she doesn't like the way I'm riding!
  17. Wash and Blow dry? to adjust Windsheild Bulge?
  18. sorry to be so dense....but what you are saying is a riders' (driver's) backrest from an 88 is completly different and won't fit an 83...but the trunk box (passenger's) backrest (and arms) would. Is my understanding correct? If so then I HAVEN'T found a rider's back rest!
  19. If a redneck divorces his wife is she still his sister?
  20. Me too! Yoohoo! But...before I commit.....I believe I should be OK...but just to be sure.....will a rider's backrest from an 88 fit an 83?
  21. Sorry to hear it's not working out for you! I hope I don't have similar issues ...sure sucks being next best thing to broke and not mechanically inclined...but I'm learning....SLOWLY! LOL hmmm....wouldn't have a driver's backrest would you?
  22. Thanks Dingy! More information than I know what to do with...but I figure I can't go wrong with following the manual! (can I????)
  23. Trader

    seal

every trailer I have has "bearing buddys" on them. No repacking....no worring about damaging the seals.... It pushes the grease in as needed...about twice a year I just hook up thegrease gun and reload.
  24. Can anyone give a quick tutorial on what the codes on spark plugs mean? for my 83 VR (1200) The manual says I need DGK DPR8EA-9 or X24EPR-U9(Nippon Denso) (is Nipon Denso the manufacturer???) The plugs that are in the bike from the PO are NGK R DR8ES-L (which the largest CTC in Canada (Kingston, ON) doesn't stock! so...what do you folks recommend?
