What....isn't somebody going to suggest that it might have been due to improper air pressure?
-
Well I started this so I may as well add more to it! I was riding my dirt bike around this farmers field and I guess we rode all dayaround the perimeter of the field where there was a gentle depression . So this time I decided to ride uphill, thru the center of the field. I didn't realize that by the time the "gentle depression" reached the center fo the field, it was a big ditch. As I was riding up the hill, it was hidden by tall weeds and next thing you know, I'm looking at a wall of dirt about 2 1/2 ft high right in front of me. I tried to get the front end up...but not in time. Next thing you know I was picking myself off the ground. I dented the tank with my "groin area" and later found out that I had I dislocated my shoulder and I guess it popped back in while I was rolling It was at least 10 minutes before I realized something was wrong with my arm!!!!!
-
But if you look closely, or repeat it enough times, you will see that the lines on the near side of the road move....but the center lines do not.

the link to the manual is not there but I do have a copy anyway. OK...so now I know my brushes are good. other than doing the checks shown in the manual, do I polish the armature or anything? Or do I just do your mod and put it back to gether.

Well, I finally got my starter out....haven't had a chance to work on it for a few days. I even got 2 broken bolts and stripped thermostat bolts out! When I opened the starter I was expecting a LOT of dust etc...but there wasn't hardly any. Which makes me wonder if the PO had done anywork on it. Question....the brushes are about 7/16 (or 1 cm") in length. They look like they fill the length of the holders pretty well so I'm thinking they are nearly new. But you tell me.....Do these have lots of life left or should they be replaced? I'm thinking it is such a PITA to get to, I might just as well do it while I'm here. I'm planning on putting in Dingy's ground mod...anything else I should do while I'm there? polish anything or ????? I'm in uncharted territory as far as anything I've done before!

Can someone explain just what leveling links are? I'm thinking they are similar to shackles on leaf springs????? description and/or pics would be appreciated for us (ok ...for ME) who are in the dark.

Come on folks....we are all family here! What is the stupid thing you did where you could have ended up badly injured or dead. Marriage doesn't count although you can be injured in many different ways...but that's a different subject. Something that as a direct result of YOUR dumb actions or could have had a bad consequence.

OK...so we've seen the video of the 19 year old going airborne in his Trans Am. There were several comments something like "hey...we've all done stupid things and been lucky enough to live and tell about it" So...now here's the chance to tell about it! Mine was pretty simple...but its the one that sticks in mind the most (yes there were others!) I was riding TOO FAST on one stretch of winding up hill road (Albion Rd. for you folks who know Hamilton, ON) The last corner was a tight right and I just couldn't get it to go around the corner. I drifted into the oncoming lane just as I was cresting the hill. It was steep enough I couldn't see over it and it is only blind chance that I didn't become a hood ornament on some car! I still get shivers when I think about what might have been. So Whats yours??? I'm thinking this might lead to a LONG thread

so what are people doing for rotted out collectors? I saw pics of one custom set of collector pipes being done by Karl (IC23B)...but curious if anyone else has suggestions or pics of what they did?? -
But what do you do the last half of the month?

Here's a rig that another member sent me...I THINK it was CdnDave...Sorry if I'm wrong! Ayyway...easy to build, and easy to use. Only one guage, 4 tubes with shut off valves. The only thing to watch out for is don't buy thin walled tubing. I did and when the tubing got hot, it collapsed from the vacume. The total price of the parts (from Princess Auto) was under $20 if the valves are the right size, you don't have to worry about the adaptors and nipples.

I was thinking about that with the air horns! The bike's are pretty poor. The guy called today....he's not happy with the atv. I told him I was honest in every thing...told him the good parts and the bad....he took it for a test ride (which is more than I did on the boat before we agreed) He wanted to put a "no return" clause in the receipt....but I didn't bother...now I wish I did! We'll see what happens. Is NOTHING simple in this world??? (and no comments about some of the members!!)

Noting to do with bikes....but FINALLY something seems to have gone right! I advertised the ATV that I had on this site's classified locally, and suggested I would be open to trades for a fishing boat. I got a phone call from a guy with a boat he was advertising for $4500...so I figured there was no way he would trade with me. I was asking $3000 but expected to get MAYBE $2500. But he did! It ended up I traded the ATV, a cheap flatbed trailer and set of ramps EVEN for his boat. So AT MOST I paid $3500 for the boat...but probably more like $3000. It is a 18' (I think...maybe 19?) Springbok aluminum fishing boat with a 112 hp Evenrude 2 stroke and a trailer. The motor has power trim and seems to run really well. The Boat is the style that has the forward mounted console (about 1/3 from the back) with a casting seat up front, a single bench in the center and a reversable bench at the console. The boat has 2 live wells with water and air pumps, lots of storage compartments, and came with a foot operated trolling motor, gas tanks, 2 batteries, paddles, stereo, fish finder, 2 power bilge pumps and air horns that scared the H### out of me when I hit the switch by mistake!!!!!! I'm thinking he wasn't too far off asking $4500. After my "issues" working on my blonde VR....I'm thrilled this seems to have been such a good deal! Especially that with trading it....it didn't cost me any CASH! We went on the water today and tried it out....not a hiccup to be seen. AND FAST!!!! The only downside is it seems it is a real pig for gas but I guess that is to be expected. Can you hear me???? "Here fishy fishy fishy!!!" Too Dark now...but I'll post pics tomorrow.

Dear Mr. Harper ( or Mr. Obama) , Please find below my suggestion for fixing our economy. Instead of giving billions of dollars to banks and car companies, that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan: There are about 20 million people over 50 in the work force. Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations: 1) They MUST retire. Twenty million job openings - Unemployment fixed. 2) They MUST buy a new Canadian CAR. Twenty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed. 3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed. 4) They MUST send their kids to school / college /university - Crime Rate fixed. 5) Buy $50 of alcohol / tobacco / petrol a week - There's your money back in duty / tax etc. It can't get any easier than that! Yours truly, Ordinary Joe Citizen P.S. If more money is needed, have all members of parliament pay back their falsely claimed expenses and second home allowances.

Plastex! has a molding bar (like plasticeen when heated) so you can make a mold from good pieces. -
Starter not starting
Trader replied to Trader's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
OK....so if I remove the bolt (# 21 in parts list) from the bottom of the thermostat housing the whole housing , pipes and all, should be able to shift forward. Once that bolt is removed...it looks like it is just the o-ring's holding it in place into the water pump housing....CORRECT????? So then it should be just fanangaling to get the whole assembly out. Both headers have been removed -

It was suggested I replace the O ring because they have a habit of leaking. I removed the hex caps and loosened the clamps on the collector. I twisted the header was all of about 1" either way...IF THAT!....but that is what it is...my concern now is just getting the #*%#!@ starter out! -
2.5cm = 1" 18 cm = 7.5" Only in Canada eh?

Starter not starting

OK.....I'm going to post multiple pictures below to show what I've been up to. It seems everyone agree's that removing the starter was the next step, and either clean it or replace the brushes do the ground mod...whatever. The first step is to remove it. So...I went to remove the rad...not too bad. Figured I would use the drain plug and drain the system. I tried spinning the drain cap to the OFF position...and then to the ON position...and then to anyother position...but nothing was draining! I tried unscrewing it...but it doesn't. Am I supposed to just pry it out? See picture#2 "DRAIN PLUG" So...I ended up just removing hoses to drain the system. Dingy said I should replace the thermostat while I was at it. Which I assume is under the cap with the tube opening to the camera SEE picture #3 BOLT IN THE WAY! As you may be able to see...the phillips screws were stripped...and are even more now. So how do I remove the whole thing? I've got to get that out of the way because I can't remove the starter bolt...it hits the pipe outlet no matter how I jiggle it. so I can't shift the starter sideways to remove the starter. WHile I was working the header to get it out of the way, I guess I flexed the inner pipe right off! SO now maybe I'll be looking for a new header. I thought if I removed the motor mount bolt that goes from side to side across the front, I would have easier access.....only to find out the bolt comes out but there is a fixed sleave the bolt goes into. SIGH! so....I have mostly stripped thermostat cap bolts (and the back one is almost inaccessable!) and a broken exhaust.... AND I STILL DON"T HAVE THE STARTER OUT!:puzzled::puzzled: :bawling: . -
I ordered and fixed a few broken tabs using PLASTEX...after reading recommendations from this site. www.plastex.net There are some low quality HOW TO video's on their web page. It is pricey!!!!! I ordered the "shop" kit...after exchange, and shipping it cost me close to $170. Iit comes with a molding bar so you can make a mold from existing tabs and create new ones. I had 1/2 of 1 tab...and was able to make 3 complete new tabs from that! I plan on striping my blonde down to the frame over the winter and I'll be repairing every crack on the faring, trunk and bags along with a few more missing tabs on the upper fairing. For the money I might have been able to buy 1 or 2 peices of E-Bay...but I should have enough to do the whole bike ....and more!
