Got my answer. I stopped at Auto Zone the other day and asked about them. One of the clerks said he tried them in his bike and did not see anything better so he went back to NGK. Thanks everyone. 'Ride safe labiull

Does anyone have any experience with the E 3 spark plug? I went to their website and they show plugs for the Venture. labill

Up and running. As suggested I went out today to check and see if the main fuse was getting power from the battery. No matter what I did I could not get power and on closer inspection did not see any metal clips. So my brain said to check the manual. Well did I feel stupid. I was checking the spare, the main was so dirty from the road dirt I missed it. It was blown, new fuse and its running. I did remove the gas tank but would have done that any way to install the ignition relay. I want to thank everyone who helped me out. Even with it being my fault because I did not pay attention I also learned a lot from all of you. Thanks again, labill

Good point. I will do that tomorrow. What is the" odometer" fuse? Thanks, labill

Here is what I have done. 1. Put in a new main fuse. Nothing 2. Turned o0n key but radio will not turn on. 3. No voltage reading between ignition fuse and negative on the battery terminal. Before I remove the tank and try the quick fix does this sound like the ignition is the problem.? If so and the quick fix works can I ride it that way until I get a new switch. Thanks, labill

I'll go for the easy stuff first. Had the battery tested, Was bad and replaced, still no power. Checked main fuse and ignition fuse, both good. I am beginning to think it is the switch. Had come back from a ride and was working on some extra lights. had the key on so I could find the right wires, then all of a sudden it went out. I have looked at the write-ups on bypassing the switch. Before I get into that I will check the voltage as recommended. Don't know what else to do. Thanks to everyone. Would not know what to try without the help. labill

Picked up voltmeter today. Will test tomorrow. If there is voltage to switch I don't know where else to look, but will have to wait. Looking at the switch I see what everyone talks about. Why the Yamaha put the switch on that way is crazy. If I need a switch any suggestions on where to look? Thanks, labill

I just ordered the relay and hope it's not too late. The switch has never given me problems. After checking all the fuses I pulled the battery and will have it checked tomorrow. I hope that's it. If not then I will have to go the route to remove it and see if it can be cleaned. I am a novice at this si I have my fingers crossed. Thanks for the help. labill

When you say to check for power at the box, what do you mean and how do I do that? If the switch is bad do you know any places to purchase outside of Yamaha? Sorry for all the questions but I am not an expert. Know just enough to get in trouble. Just ordered one of the ignition switch relays too. Thanks, labill

Came from a ride today, all good. Was checking wires to hook up some extra lights. All of a sudden all power shut down. I checked main fuse and ignition fuse. Both good. Battery good. Don't know where else to look. Any help is appreciated. labill

My daughters 2007 1100 V-Star at it again. Attempt to put it in gear and its like no clutch. Went through this two times before. First time took to shop. Was told oil caused plates to stick with it setting. Warmed up and was able to free. About two weeks later same thing. Warmed up and worked. Now its stuck again. Warming up does nothing, pushing and dropping into gear nothing. I have changed oil and no change. Is there an additive I could add to clean the plates and maybe free them? Thanks, labill

I have a sidecar on my 2000 Venture. Right now the front wheel has not been changed. Been riding this way for the past 9 years. Think its time to ease the handling. Has anyone modified the front wheel and if so: 1. How 2. With what. 3. Is it a shop or home install and 4. How is the handling with the modification? Thanks, labill

I have had my sidecar for about 8 years. I have it on my 2000 Ventura and have never extended the front wheel, so muscle comes into play a lot. Getting older and was wondering if those of you with the extension can tell me the best route to take and does the bike still hold its look, what I mean it's not a long front? Thanks, labill

v-max rear questions?
labill replied to baylensman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I purchased a V-Max rear for my 2000 Ventura. The rear just replaced the existing one without any problems, something Yamaha should have done. A world of difference. There are a few discussions and pictures of the exchange on this site. labill -
Trying to find a pouch for my cassettes. Would like a windshield pouch, 1,2 or 3 compartments but can not seem to find anything that will fit? Thanks, labill
-
Sorry for the delay. Did not change front end. Its muscle and I learned to use the sidecars own brake for right turns and sharp curves and the weight of the car itself for left curves. The only front addition was the need for a shock stabilizer to stop low-end wobble which is bad.

Transmission plates appear to be struck
labill replied to labill's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Cable clutch. That is working. Was working before this started again. Can put it in neutral and as soon as you try to shift it lurches forward and stalls. Did the same thing last year until the shop freed it. Doing what they did but nothing. Will try again with more muscle to push and see if I can release them. Thanks. -
Transmission plates appear to be struck

Tried that but nothing. Maybe I need a little more muscle. I will have my grandson help me rock it. Thanks, -
My daughter has a 2007 V-Star 1100. It sat all winter and when she tried to use it this spring it would go into gear with the clutch in. Took it to a motorcycle mechanic. He got it working. Said from setting all winter the plates were struck. Changed oil. He said he pushed and popped into gear and after warming up worked. Now it sat for a month and back to the same problem. I have warmed it up, tried putting into gear in hopes the plates would free up, put it up on the stand and ran it but nothing changes. Any suggestions? Thanks, labill

Bought the bike in 2002. Added the car a few years back. Bought it from Motorvation in Sibley, IA. Great car.

Thanks for the suggestions with the dogs. They ride locally only but still weigh more than wife. Bought the sidecar a few years back because the wife could not handle long trips on back. Put a V max rear in and boy did that make a difference with power. Still miss the twisties.

2007 V-Star 1100 starter problem
labill replied to labill's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Du-Rron Thanks for the information. Look like something I can tackle -
My daughter's bike appears to be having starter issues. It is loud, like clanging when starting up or will do nothing at first then after a few attempts will start. If I have to change it out can I get it rebuilt at one of my local started rebuilders? Any one know where I can get some pics on how to do it? Thanks, labill

I'm seriously considering adding a sidecar - serious input appreciated
labill replied to Red1's topic in Trike & Sidecar Talk
Forgot to mention. After I had the sidecar I found the power was not there. On some hills, etc the motor would have to work hard and many times would have to drop into 4th gear. Addressed this on the site and our friends gave me the solution. I put in a VMax rear and it's like I never put the sidecar on. Also, don't expect to get good gas mileage. labill
