why would't FI work on RSV
tpalshadow replied to footsie's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Have the other manufacturers who go to FI touring bikes had problems like everyone expresses? In my mind FI prevents needing to thinker and do your own maintenance. I don't see a lot of car manufacturers pumping out new carb'ed vehicles and there is a reason for it. -
Please let me know when the time comes. If Yamaha doesn't do something with the Venture this next year I will be in the market for a wing.

My parents took Hwy 20 from I-35 in Iowa to the left coast...said it was great.

I agree it is a disgrace that this was stolen, but I also think it is funny they call a 76 an antique! I guess it is true you don't see many Harleys that old that still run.

I have a 72 Honda that doesn't have vacuum carbs, does have two carbs. The manual says to hold your hand behind the muffler and make sure the pressure coming out is the same in order to sync the carbs. Problem is the pipes are 2-in-1 Scrambler pipes. Anyone have any idea how I can sync them? I have used a laser heat reader on the headers, seems to work OK, but not great. 2- wheel removal system
tpalshadow replied to a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Just got done following that system and have it all apart. The only hard part was the four bolts holding the final drive on. They were extremely hard to get at and I don't think there will be any way to torque them properly. -

Do you need hockey pucks or something under a stand to use it with 1st gen mkII? I have a motorcycle jack but it looks to me like the jack will hit the mufflers and such. -

Just a 2x4 and some ratchet straps? I have a terrible time finding anything with the search feature on this forum. -

Rear End Work
tpalshadow replied to tpalshadow's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks! I guess I thought it would be a bigger gasket looking piece between the pumpkin and drive shaft piece where you bolt them together. -
GPS will drain the battery in a hurry. Best to always have your phone plugged in if you are going to use it.

If you buy a Blackberry or Windows Mobile phone from any of the phone carriers you should navigate the phone to http://m.bing.com/download and get their new version of Bing Mobile. It now has turn-by-turn spoken directions exactly like a Garmin. VERY COOL. It also allows you to speak to it rather than typing when searching for thing. Not too bad for the price...free.

Has anyone compared the two models? I have it narrowed down to those two choices. With the price at my dealer they are about the same price so that is not an issue. We will use it to listen to music and intercom. We have the HJC IS-33 helmets, I believe they are called 3/4, have the flip-down face shield (not modular). Thanks! Passenger CB
tpalshadow replied to tpalshadow's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks to everyone for all the help. I'll order up a set of headsets and see what happens! I'll continue to look for the control unit, but I am very relieved to know it should work without! The dealer I go to is recommending some J&M headsets...anyone got bad things to say about them or something I would be more happy with? -
Passenger CB
tpalshadow replied to tpalshadow's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
OK, so the intercom is always on? Do I need to get a certain headset that will only trigger when talked into and one where she can control the volume in case it is too loud for one or the other? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to make sure I buy the correct stuff! Can be a little spendy to get it wrong. Also, if anyone does have a control unit they don't mind parting with please let me know! -
Sharp lookin' rig! I have been looking at them as well. Maybe someday if Yamahammer gets off their rear you can come back to the good side!

Quick one here. I need to grease and change fluids on the rear end before a trip in a week and a half. Is this the best step by step to follow? http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=69

OK, the backseat boss and I got some new helmets and would like to set up some comms. Unfortunately I now realize that the bike I bought doesn't have the passenger control for the intercom, CB, etc.. Does anyone have a working one off a parts bike they would be willing to give up? Please let me know! I found it on the parts websites, but that price is a little steep to swallow. Is there an alternative device I could plug in to allow her and I to both use the intercom/CB or however that works and listen to the radio. Thanks! Todd

Coolant drain plug
tpalshadow replied to tpalshadow's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
OK, thanks. Yes it is leaking (real slow drip), otherwise I would leave it alone.
