running hot
titansedriver replied to titansedriver's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I caa me home from work this evening and haven't had the time to ride the bike---But as I thought about it today at work I'm thinking you geniuses that came up with the "Air in the system" might just be on to something----I remember it "gurggling" like crazy after I stopped it last night---then needing more coolant----also---I started it up when i got home this evening and let it just sit and Idle for about 20 minutes and the Temp gauge stayed in the Lower Quarter of the GREEN---Seems to me that if she was gonna run hot it would have happened sitting there with no air blowing thru the radiator--anyway---I hope you guys were correct about the "Air Pocket"----thanks..............Larry:fingers-crossed-emo -
Hey Guys!------I changed the "thermastat housing" and all the hoses on my 89 Royale and now it seems to be running "hot"---any ideas why this could be?---I have the plastic drain plug at the bottom of the radiator with the "off" mark at the "2-O-clock" position like someone on here said was the correct place for it-----It seemed to cool down some after I returned from the initial run and let it idle with the fan runnining------I actually revved it up to about 9000 rpm's one quick time to see if maybe something was stuck and the temp guage seemed to drop to about 3/4 way up (at least it was in the green area after I did that)----I used the same thermostat that came with the housing because it had only 29,000 mi. on it---Do you guys think maybe it was just kinda stuck?----i sure hope that's all it is:fingers-crossed-emo..................................................Larry

throttle cables
titansedriver replied to titansedriver's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I suppose I'm waiting and hoping that someone has come up with a solution that doesn't require me tearing all the fairing off to get to some kinda adjustment---I have run the adjusting screw all the way out to give it as much slack as possible and it STIL will not go back into the slots--I install the backl one first--then tried to rotate the throttle to install the front one--no luck--reversed procedure--no luck--.....evry tiny bit I rotatye the throttle to install one side it pulls from the other side removing that much cable----I'm going NUTS here!!!!- 16 replies

I installed my new starter this afternoon--she fired right up!!!---BUT!---It sounds like my starter is still trying to stay engaged--the last starter was ruined when the Starter Button became stuck while I was starting it and I didn't notice it was stuck until the damage was done----I freed the starter button and it seems to be working ok---My question is--Has anyone had this problem and do you think it would be best to replace the starter button assembly while I'm this deep into it?.......................Larry:confused07:

Ok guys--got starter off---took the 2 looong bolts out and sklid the front and back cover off---I have enough Brass -Copper & Metal fall out in small tiny pieces to fill the palm off my hand---not good huh?------ -
OK guys--I think my starter is fried--My question is-do you have to remove the Outside cover to remove the starter?--I have the bolts out and it's loose but will not release ......................Larry

Made mine from .020 stainless steel and internet purchased decals -
I started my 89 Venture this afternoon and left it running at idle sped to warm up--came back a few minutes later and noticed a werrrrrring sound coming from the lower front of engine--sounded very strange so I began investigating while it was running--after a few minutes it just "shut down"-at about this same time I noticed that my "starter button" had stuck "in" when I started the bike----OK---what do you guys think I ruined when this happened----I tried to restart it and nothing----the battery was hot as fire and showed no charge--i have taken it out and placed it on battery tender charge for tonight---I was just wondering what I might have shorted out or burnt up when the Starter button stuck in......thanks.............Larry

Why all of these "high dollar"-"time consuming" methods?--I have a TOM-TOM 3rd Edition--I went to Wal-Mart and bought a roll of "Velcro Tape".....Covered the lower half of my cassette player cover with the Male side and the entire back of the TOM-TOM with the female side-----------It takes 2 hands and a crowbar to pry it off when I wanna store it (lol)!---and the position is perfect to just glance over and see the screen..................................Larry

I bought a "wireless fm converter" from Wal-Mart for 12 bucks that plugs into the earbud outlet on my "Iphone"--I put my fm radio on 87.9 and turn on my "Ipod" and the music coming from my speakers is simply fantastic!!!

Air filter box
titansedriver replied to titansedriver's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I'm gonna "duct tape" all 4 sides and see if it makes a difference in MPG or performance--I kinda thought it was crazy to do something like that but as Frankd mentioned-some people come up with some crazy ideas!(lol)!!---thanks guys.......................................................Larry -
Exhaust pipes
titansedriver replied to titansedriver's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanx for the fast reply!--I thought they appeared too precise to just have been randomly shot into it them---again---Thanx friend.....................................Larry -
Was doing some odds and end things this past weekend and took my air filter box off--After I got it out of the small compartment it is lodged in I noticed someone had taken a 1/4 in. drill bit and drilled about 8 small holes on the sides of the box (all 4 sides)---Do you think this would improve performance or just some "Shade tree Mechanic" trying to increase the air into the carbs?...........................................Thanx......................Larry
-
I have a very small "weep hole"(maybe 1/16in.) on each side of my exhaust pipes probably located just below the passenger foot rest---are these factory or do you suppose someone added them ------Thanx........................Larry
-
I didn't even lean mine over!--I just pulled it over a low lying area in my back yard--used a "Metabo" saw and cut a 2 inch square in the collector (only cutting 3 sides of the square ) opened up the little opening and the broken baffle fell out onto the ground----pushed the metal "flap" back into place and "J-B welded" the heck out of it!!...........................................Larry

titansedriver replied to titansedriver's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Let me know how it comes out Jason---I sure am dreading removing all that frontend just to get to some coils that I can now sit on the seat and look at but cant get a socket on!!!.................Larry -
Ignition coils
titansedriver replied to titansedriver's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hey Dan--So are you saying that the FRONT fairing comes off pretty easily?---I have all the side fairing off-I was just a little leary about all the wiring hookups for the lights and accessorries---Guess I;ll give it a shot tommorrow evening after work--Thanx......Larry -
Someone PLEEEEEASE tell me that there is a way to remove the ignition coils from my 89 Venture without removing ALL the front fairing!!----I thought I saw a thread on here a while back saying you could remove the battery box and air filter and remove them that way--also--how common is it to have "cracked" ignition coils--bike started running like crap and a friend suggested plug wires---got ready to replace the plug wires and noticed that the first 2 coils are cracked all the way across the top--found a complete set on E-bay--but now need help removing the old ones!!--------Thanx------Larry

I have noticed a couple of times the past 2 weeks that my cooling fan will just arbitrarily come on while my bike has been sitting in the garage for a couple days--If I disconnect the battery ground and reconnect everything is fine (the fan shuts off)---Do I have a bad relay or am I missing something??
