Why would you want to ride a bike and NOT experience the wind? It's part of the joy of riding!!!

This is the first time I have actually SEEN counter-steering in action. Who knew you could ride a motorcycle in so many ways? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=No_vqA2A3KY&feature=related]YouTube - Freestyle Streetbike WM 2009 Zürich, CP Chris Pfeiffer, World Championship[/ame]

This video was taken with a Go Pro. It was the user's first time with it. Loads of different ways to mount it. Helmet, engine guards, handlebars, etc. Next was to be facing back, but he ran out of battery (after 4 hours). Rick (SilvrT), The fact that you can keep up is a tribute to the Venture as well, of course, to your skills / nerve as a rider.

I rode my 2000 ST1100A for three years, some of it two up, and sometimes on lengthy camping trips (both 2-up and solo). I loved the bike, especially in the twisties. When I was looking for a new bike, my primary concern was for passenger comfort, and I plumped for the Venture (2008). The Venture is super comfortable for long distance rides. I no longer have to stop every hour or so. Passenger comfort and ease of mounting and dismounting is leaps aheead of the ST. It does not handle the same way in the twisties, but as I ride with a Club of mostly cruisers, it is not a big issue. I can still push the Venture as hard as nerve and skill permits, have lots of fun doing it, and still leave others behind. Absolutely no regrets about the Venture purchase, and it is subject to many "Nice bike" comments from passers-by! PS. The 2000 ST1100A is still for sale at a great price ($3,650). Anyone interested?

Big Dawg, All the wiring connections are behind the licence plate. On my 2008 RSV, the run light wire is blue, the brake light is yellow. This meant that the blue wire on the LED light connection went to the yellow wire on the bike. Good luck!
-
Lesson learned. Read the instructions... THEN FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS! Rick re-wired the connections, and all is working as advertised. Again, Thanks Rick!

My lady, Dianne, has a 650 V-Star, and loves it... BUT... loaded on hills, she lacks power. The 1100 has power that you do not HAVE to use, but it is there when you are ready for it. The problem is, that a lot of people have found this, which is why there are plenty of 650's available on the market, and not so many 1100's. The bikes feel exactly the same!

Good to have you and Nina along, Rick. In six years with the Coast Riders, I have discovered lots of interesting back roads, and we stay clear of the "slab" whenever possible. RIDING SEASON HAS BEGUN!

I have had the LED tail lights (from CruiserCustomizing.com)sitting on my desk for several months. I looked at doing the install myself, but chickened out, as I am not the most mechanically minded rider on the road. Then I met Rick through this site. He lives 10 minutes from me. We had a coffee, and he offered to help with the install. So... today we did it. Four and a half hours, including going out for a replacement bulb, as I dropped one, only to find that they do not bounce on concrete. The running lights and signal lights look great, but there is no change when the brake is applied. I can live with that. I will probably get an LED Brake light one day in the future. HUGE thanks to Rick for the use of is tools, garage, lift, and most of all, his knowledge and confidence in tackling this job.

One piece of advice I heard, and have had to use on occasion... if you feel you are too hot in a curve, kiss the lower mirror. It will help the bike lean further into the curve. As others have said, you can trust your tires!
-
If it's a hairpin turn, get into first gear, especially if going up-hill. If you keep slowing, and then want to accelerate out of the turn, you need to be in a gear that will allow the heavy machine to accelerate. Add the weight of you, the machine and your gear to an up hill slope, and second gear may not do it!

Isn't that what the wear bars are for? When you are down to them, it's time for new rubber. In my experience, that last bit of rubber disappears FAST!

Sailing! I have the ideal situation. I have the keys to a buddy's Catalina 27. He pays maintenance and moorage. I help with clean-up a couple of times a year.

The common cormorant or shag Lays eggs inside a paper bag; The reason you will see no doubt It is to keep the lightning out. But what these unobservant birds Have never noticed is that herds Of wandering bears may come with buns And steal the bags to hold the crumbs.

Regarding motorcycle tires, I am not a very knowledgeable person (though on other topics I know EVERYTHING!). I am surprised to see anyone even considering putting car tires on a motorcycle. I understand that motorcycle tires are made of a softer, stickier rubber, which provides a little better traction. This is something that is much needed with 50% of the wheels fitted to most cars. I can understand that, given the harder compound, car tires would last longer. But there must be a cost in terms of grip on the road. I am sure that the responses from the knowledgeable folks on this fantastic site will go a long way to fill the lamentable gap in my education. Cheers!

Absolutely do NOT get Vista. It was Microsoft's Edsel. Windows 7 is great. I run it in 32 bit for broader compatibility, and I have found it fast and stable over the last 12 months.

I can see where he could easily get it wrong. This is a favourite poem of mine: Now We Are Six Author: A.A. Milne When I was one, I had just begun. When I was two, I was nearly new. When I was three, I was hardly me. When I was four, I was not much more. When I was five, I was just alive. But now I am six, I'm as clever as clever. So I think I'll be six now and forever.

Wow! I expected some response, but you guys have really provided lots of opinions. What I have learned is, it's ok to keep with the toe, but on no account remove the heel shifter... just in case I break a toe or get gout. Thanks, All!!!
-
I have had my 08 Venture since May last year. It is the first bike I have had with a heel shift. The only advantage I see to the heel shift is that it saves wear and tear to the top of your left boot. I do not need to move my foot from its rest position to shift up if I use my toe, whereas I must move my leg back and lift it to get the heel on top of the shifter. So, my question(s): How many use the heel shifter? What advantages do you see to using it? Is it worth the effort to retrain myself to use this feature? Thanks for any thoughts.

Re: 16. How do those dead bugs get into those enclosed light fixtures? How many flies does it take to screw in a light bulb? Answer: Two. The real question is: How do they get into the light bulb?
