  1. I just put the magnetic antenna on top of the brake master cylinder. The screw that is under it provides enough ferrous material to hold it in place without issue.
  2. I just got 3 bricks of .22 cal Aguila from Midway. My grandkids will go through a brick on a range trip if I let them. They both shoot in 4-H so Grandpa has to help with the practicing.......
  3. I am in Fairfield as well. If you need a hand. Dave
  4. I bought that $5.99 USB power supply and mounted it up. I will power my satellite radio but does not have enough to charge my Motorola cell phone or my Garmin 765T. I question whether it has the capacity to supply much more than 500 Ma. I may have gotten a defective one, I don't know. In the future, for 6 bucks, I will just homebrew.
  5. First, I would suggest you look at http://www.americaridesmaps.com and consider adding some of Wayne's great maps to your collection. I have a number of them and they are great resources. Wayne has ridden each of the routes he has marked on the maps, and I have not found one route to be less than a great ride. http://www.2wheelscamp.com/states/northcarolina.shtml This is a great resource for finding lodging. These are all motorcycle friendly. I have stayed at the Two Wheel Inn and found it to be quite accomodating for me considering I was on a trip and had no plans to lounge around the room. I rode the Dragon last year for the first time on the third day of a trip after I had ridden a few of the other roads around the area and was almost half way through it before I realized "I must be on The Dragon". The markings on the road gave it away. You are going to have a great time on your trip!
  6. Jay, You could have avoided the 10% penalty by using the 72t distribution option. It requires you to take equal payments for either 5 years or until you reach 59.5 whichever comes later. It may still be an option you could elect if you haven't reached 59.5.
  7. I also have a Ruger MK iII. It is the 5 1/2 inch bull barrel and is a great shooter. 22lr is the perfect round for practice/plinking.
  8. I wonder how braided strap material would work. I use it for the ground on my radio station as well as the lightning arrestors.
  9. Austin Healey 3000 bought it in 1977 and was my daily driver for 5 years.
  10. Still driving a 1965 model built in the "motherland". Not in this winter weather though.
  11. I would recommend you contact Midrsv on this board. Dennis lives on the southwest side of Lexington and hosts a really great Memorial Day weekend M&E at his home with rides around the central Kentucky area. I lived a few miles down the road from Lexington some years back and thoroughly enjoyed the area.
  12. Barbie and I have wintered in the Key West area for the past 10 years, and look forward to going back each year. We stay at the Geiger Key Marina, which is at the 10 mile marker and in the final approach for NASKW. It's an air show every day! We tow an enclosed trailer with freezer, washer/dryer combo, supplies, and motorcycles behind "da bus". Parking is never an issue for bikes on Key West, and it is mostly always free. Our Key West bikes are middleweights with soft luggage, so grocery shopping is also not an issue. Having stayed on the island occasionally in years past, I can recommend the Southernmost Motel and the Avalon Bed and Breakfast, both on the south end of Duval Street. In June, you will find the prices to be significantly discounted from the "Season" prices. We have used a number of routes from Ohio to south Florida, including I-75 and "Alligator Alley", I-75 and US 41, and I-75 and the Florida Turnpike. Our best route is using the Turnpike with a SunPass for a number of reasons. The traffic is far lighter on the Turnpike, it is 80 miles shorter than any other route(at 8 mpg that means something) and is an hour quicker. The SunPass allows you to blow through the toll stations without stopping. The scenic route is US 41(Tamiami Trail) from Naples to Homestead. It takes no longer than Alligator Alley, has no tolls, and the wildlife through the Everglades is fabulous. I am happy to share whatever we have learned about food, attractions, fishing, or whatever.
  13. We bought 25 acres in the Tennessee mountains last year and are planning to make a run for it in a year or two. 45 minutes to the BRP and less than an hour to all the great roads around the Smoky Mtns Park. I was pleased to see that TN is ranked #1 on that list. My retirement will go much farther there.
  14. If you are using an SWR bridge to check you antenna, the connector on the bridge is an SO239 and and uses a PL259 connector on the cable. On the smaller cable used in mobile applications, you will need an SM58 sleeve also. The UHF connector on the fullcompass website is an SO239.
  15. People refer to this issue as "limp wristing". No kidding. Her problems will go away if she uses a firmer grip with both hands.
  16. I need a few of the push buttons that are in the radio amplifier, radio, and CB. They are the actuator buttons that have a spear on them that actuate the switches on the PC boards inside. The spear points seem to have broken off on a few of mine. If I have to buy the whole assembly to get the push buttons, so be it....... Thanks Dave
  17. It looks as if everyone is making an attempt to cash in on the frenzy. That clips.net or whatever website wants $45 for a 17 round Ruger SR9 magazine, and Ruger factory price is $32. Of course, no one has any in stock and will probably be out for some time to come. I would guess that some manufacturers are holding off on production of anything over 10 rounds to see what the new laws may be. I have been watching the Armslist website and people are going crazy there.
  18. I have more than a few miles on a 2010 C14 with multiple ergo mods. One of my riding buds has it, and we switched off quite a bit on a 1600 mile Smoky Mtn trip last summer. The 2010 C14 is a different machine than the 08 - 09 in that Kawasaki took all the complaints that the owners had and addressed them in the 2010 model. It is wonderfully fast, ABS and Traction Control work beautifully, and it handles great for a sport tourer. He sold it at the end of last season and I would have bought it if I wasn't so cheap. I did 3 solo trips to the Smoky Mtn - BRP areas last summer. One on the VR, one on the 2003 Bandit 12S, and one sharing the C14 and the Bandit. The Bandit is also a great sport tourer. I have made ergo mods to mine as well and can go 500 miles at a time with no issues whatsoever. I have a 34 inch inseam and 62 years old, so finding comfort is always an issue for me. If the lovely Barbie elects to go to the mountains with me, I will ride the VR. Otherwise, the mountain trips will be on the Bandit.
  19. I used a Sharpe siphon gun for a long time and bought a Devilbiss Finishline HVLP gun about 10 years ago. I have not regretted buying it for a minute. I also bought a HF HVLP gun for my son in law, whos a very talented painter and he likes it a bunch. If you are going to be painting small jobs or some garage things, the HF gun will probably be fine.
  20. Be sure to ride Wayah Road west off 64 from Franklin, NC and Rt 215 from Rosman, NC north to Canton, NC. In my humble opinion, those are the two "Must Ride" roads in the area.
  21. I was just there a couple of weeks ago. I rode from Franklin on Wayah Road to the Dragon. I would say that Wayah Road was just as much fun as anything else on that side of the park. I have been told by some that riding the Dragon from south to north is the safer of the two directions. If you are leaving from Franklin, consider 28 south to Highlands, then 64 east to Rosman. From there, take 215 north to Bethel. 215 is a fabulous road with lots of technical sections and a couple of really spectacular waterfalls. I would recommend that you look us America Rides maps. They aren't expensive, and are very complete in every way. The maps list a number of the best roads in the area, routes with times to ride, and where all the waterfalls are. Well worth the cost to me. You will find lots of beautiful scenery in the area with about every type of riding you could wish for.
  22. You might look for the "Street Rod" model. Center controls, different spring/shock values, and all around better ergos. One of the locals here has one and he tears up the twisties with ease all the while in a comfortable position.
  23. I bought some Heat-Out long underwear that is manufactured by Bilt to use on the Central Kentucky Memorial weekend event this year. Temps that weekend was in the mid 90's and I was quite comfortable wearing Rebock athletic shorts with the long undies under mesh jacket and pants. I just returned from a 1600 mile trip on Skyline Drive, BRP, Cherohela, and Dragon and wore that same gear in the 55 degree morning mountain temps and mid 80's on the way home and was never uncomfortable. I would agree completely with the neck coolers. Before I retired, I was a HS Marching Band director and bought them by the gross for my students while at band camp and for late summer practices. There was a noticeable difference in the ability to concentrate while using them in hot weather.
  24. I would agree that I-75 through Dayton is far more maddening than Cincy any day. The construction there is going to last forever it seems. I should run over to Sharonville for some Skyline with Yama Mama one of these days. On a good day, I can smell them cooking it at the main plant over here.
  25. From Etown, I would go I-65 to the Gene Snyder around Louisville to I-71 toward Cincy. About 15 miles south of Cincy, take I-275 east and connect with I-71 north on the northeast side of town. Depending on what time of day you are coming through, you could still be good coming in to Cincy and taking I-71 at the river. I drive those roads every day and it usually isn't any problem before 4 p.m. If you want to go off the interstate system, Rt 27 from Lexington, through Paris, will connect with I-275 south and east of the city and you could come around that way to I-71. It just depends on how quickly you want to get there.
