I was afraid of that! All I can find here is problems with the shifter coming off. Been through that already, replaced and loctite-ed that bolt. But this... not sure AT ALL how this works, and the pipe is smack in the way, making it really tough to assess the problem! I'm hoping nothing inside broke off!!

Hello everybody, been a while for me here. I was riding my 97 RSTD when I went to down shift coming off the freeway and there was nothing!! I pulled the clutch and coasted to a gas station right off the freeway, where I saw that the linkage had come loose from the tranny! I was able to push it in and got it into 2nd gear to get home with, but I'm not sure what the fix is here. Anyone know? Thanks!

shifter fell off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay so what if you discover that the heel/toe shifter came off, you fix it in your friends garage, but then on the way home, the linkage comes off behind the floorboard?? I havent looked at the bike since, just got home in 3rd and parked it for a few days. Is that an easy fix too? -
Mustang Seat for My Royal Star??
Mooseduncan replied to mellco's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
My 97 has the Corbin dual tour with a backrest and I love it! Just got back from a 2000 mile trip and not a single day was I aching to get off the bike. My girlfriend says the passenger seat is very comfy as well. -
Low Fuel Light??

On my 97 RSTD I average about 41. I just assumed it was due to the smaller carbs on the older models but apparently not! -
Now that's good stuff right there!! No I did not realize that... sorry everyone, still figuring this new fangled thing called the intranet out... Dee dee dee!!

Thanks JB. I like loud pipes as long as it's a deep sound. They are perfect as far the sound is concerned the way they are. Just not sure how much performance I'm missing. One thing that I do notice on the bike is a considerable lack of low end grunt compared to my Harley. I'm assuming that's due in part to little or no back pressure from my pipes. Does anyone here have a video or sound clip of their bike with Bubs pipes on it? By the way, those pipes look real good!

I agree but only the purists want those evos these days... Everybody wants bigger and newer now. I think you'd be hard pressed to turn a profit on a 14 year old bike like that. But it is a bad ass bike!

My 97 RSTD has stock pipes that have been drilled out. Not something I would have done personally (was that way when I bought it), but it sounds great and has no signs of running lean or rich. I'm certain that I'm losing torque, but the bike runs great. Of the pipes I have researched, the Bubs set looks to be the way to go but now that I have gotten used to the deep growl that the bike presently has, I'm wondering if the Bubs will be too quiet. Has anyone been through my scenario before or have some advice to give? Thanks

Mine is a 97 RSTD and the ignition is in front of the tank on the left side of the frame. -
2008 Venture performance

I came from a Harley with the TC88, tuned to the tee. When I first bought my RSTD (I bought it about 125 miles from home) I stopped about 20 miles down the road and told my friend who was following me home that I think I made a big mistake, this bike can't get out of it's own way! We talked about everything I had read about the bikes and I figured I'd go against what I knew from the Vtwin and try extending out the throttle between shifts. That is all it took!! I can't imagine riding anything but my RSTD now, I love it!! -
And you're welcome for the inspiration! These days I just sit and stare at those pics as the days seem to slow down on the final approach to my trip!

I tried that a couple times Dave, each time it said something about not having something... jeez I forget now. Some sort of an error. Both times.
