see I have alot of respect for that. One of my sayings is that "i am not asking you to side with me, just understand where I am coming from". Some people can some cant. But I do believe in God, I do not have anything against people that dont, as long as you treat me like a person. Two of my best friends are athiest, we dont argue about it, we just dont bring it up because there are so many more things that we have in common to talk about. I dont mean to get on beliefs, that was not intended it is just an example that so many people have to be around people who think as they do. Think about this, if we were all the same, who would be special.

Traded the 83 venture
Karl C. replied to Karl C.'s topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
my buddy is going to trailer it home for me then I am going to get it on center stand and start into it. when i first started it where it sits now it was kind of sluggish (carbs) luckily they cleared up.. the bike only sat a year or less without being ran. But I am going to (as others have already suggested) replace all fluids, lube everything I possible can and then let the wind hit it hard... in the windshield. -
now if you were frying chicken in it, it is probably good... and when you are riding then you can smell kfc everywhere...lol

Traded the 83 venture
Karl C. replied to Karl C.'s topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I'll be checking out that stem this weekend and try to get it home so I can relax in my own backyard and change fluids etc... I think the color of this one is the birch/brown combo. I say "I think" because I have seen the bike before but in a garage where the lighting wasnt quite great. Let you all know how it goes and get pics this weekend. -
i am so proud of myself.... i read an "oil" thread and decided it was in my best interest to stay the hell out of it...lol I personally use rotella 15/40

I have no ideal how or why this happened but a friend and I were just talking about our bikes and stuff and anyway to make a long story short I ended up trading my 83 venture for a 1987 venture royal. It does need a little work on the fairing parts but I figure ill do that this winter as a garage project. It actually runs good, all the gauges work and the compressor works etc. The only real bad thing is the rear tire wont hold air. it is a brand new tire, still has the tits on it, but it sat for a year and I have a feeling something is between the outer rim and tire. I just cant wait. Should have pics by this weekend. Can you all tell me of any bad "traits" of the 87 and also how does the 1200 compare to the 1300 on the open road? thanks for any info

Dont be confused, some cars are actually like that. The problem is that all cars arent like that. Cadillacs for instance come with full syn.. Or well I I should say the northstar system engines come with full syn. -

One problem that I have had with syn oil is this: I bought a new f150 supercrew in 2008. I waited till the 3rd oil change (9000 Miles) and then switched to amsoil... well most of todays engines do not loosen up till around 20K miles... so my engine at 30K miles still wasnt actually broken in.. My gas mileage got worse and got to talking to dealer about it. So I changed oil, flushed engine and went back to dyno oil ran it for 3 more oil changes and now walla... i am back to 21 mpg on the hwy... not bad for a fullsize ford truck with gas engine... The year befoer that I had a chevy silverado, went to 20K before switching to syn and I got real good performance out of it and also very good mileage. However I only had the 4.3 liter in it and was getting 25 on the hwy after 20K miles... before that I was only getting 19 mpg.. This is also why amsoil makes a breakin oil.. -

I guess the jets is what I worry about the most, well the sliders too... i am seeing 84 bux apiece for the slicers and 46 bux apiece for the jets.... sh)*)&(&*(**(^*(&6ttt... I am gonna go ahead and try taking it off and starting soaking adn go from there,,,, it is doing me no good the way it is now sooo gotta start somewhere... I thought if I could buy a set already good and ready to go on I would do that for now as I tore these down adn redid them. -

most syns have better or more cleaners in it that dino... it is a fact that IF your engine has bad gaskets that are hid by sludge and that sludge is removed yes they will leak...if perhaps your motor is clean and your gaskets are in good order then geee it wont leak... The syn vs dino oil can go on and on and on..... yes some oils will cause clutch to slip and some wont... read some forums and see what others have to say also.. Honda is one company that mobile made for a car will make the clutch slip on a v65 sabre. But not on all hondas. As far as amsoil.. it is not like regular oils or other syns.. it is in a class of its own...some would like to compare it to royal purple but IMHO amsoil is still a notch better... the only thing that pisses me off is that amsoil only sells by distributors...those distributors in my area suck... -
Does anyone know where I can buy a complete rebuilt kit worth the money? Do they even make a complete rebuilt kit? By complete I mean one that has everything for the internal instead of having to buy jets and other things seperate. Or does anyone have a set of carbs that are ready to go on for sale? excuse my ignorance on this carb stuff but I gotta learn eventually to do things myself because the shops are just getting higher in price.

Friday night dinner in Oberlin at Quaker Steak & Lube

you'll aint far enough south to be using duct tape.... well depends on what color i guess...lol -
I am not sure how to word this, so please dont take it as a smart arse statement.... I guess I hate reading these stories like this. The reason why is people are not going to change, yes you will have one or two here but over all society as a whole group is not going to change. Everybody has places to be, everybody is late, everybody is tired etc. After starting to ride mc again I started slowed down. Made me feel good about myself. Yes I did take my sabre upto 120 a couple of times and ultimately did reach 135 but it was in an area that had no vehicles of any kind and the only one to have gotten hurt would have been me. But the point is that it seems to me so many people think they are more important than there fellow human being. I see people cut off peolpe, change over 3 lanes to not miss a turn off etc. We have all seen it not just me. But anyway when I read these stories it makes me sad, it makes me pissed and then I have this bad feeling that there is not a damn thing I can do about it. That is the feeling that I cant shake. So no I am not trying to be mean, it is just a situation that I cant handle. I have been very fortunate that when I see a vehicle in my path I get a gut feeling that it, the driver, is going to do something stupid so I take precautions, make an escape plan and have lived so far. I wonder if you other riders get a gut feeling that an intersection poses a problem without even getting to stop at the intersection, or if you get a gut feeling that a certain car is going to cut you off? Gut feeling or instinct, I always trust them. I often wonder also if the man that got killed had a gut feeling and refused to believe it. Not just this incident but others also.. I am not asking people to agree with me just understand what I feel.

next week I get my carbs rebuilt and back tire put on.... then do regular fluid maintenance, rerun a few wires for brakes and turn signals, then at least I can ride a little... then next month I will get my new progress fork springs. I will also get new brake pads next week. This bike sat up for 7 years in a barn before I got it so I didnt really expect the carbs to come clean but was sure hoping so... at least this way I know they will be all they can be. In the mean time my honda v65 sabre will be getting a new fairing. I found an orignal hondaline fairing that orignally came on a sabre my same color. Cant wait for all of it to come together.

darn potholes in the road
Karl C. posted a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
riding down the road everything going nice and then you hit a pot hole... no not marijuana but a real life hole in the road... deep enough that your venture takes a dive and when you recover you find out that the front of your engine hit on the way out of the hole... it busted the piece on the bottom half of the part where the oil filter goes in. Cleaned it up real good, bought an oil filter adapter so that a spin on filter would work... jb welded the area underneath but it still has a drop, drop effect to it.... not going to take the motor off and apart to replace the block, but wondering if there is some kind of kit that will fix this? relocate the oil filter maybe? I mean I can take the in and out holes where the oil filter goes and thread them and then the oil will stop leaking... I was kind of hoping others have done this and might be a sensible fix... I do understand that if I were to thread the holes that id have to be real careful about metal shavings... thanks in advance for any helpful comments... -
Thanks for the info on the brake fluid... very interesting.

I have to ask a question though. You stated you started using dot 4 brake fluid. I am asking this because I dont know and testing your intelligience but are brake fluids actually cmpatible with going backwards? I mean I know you dont want to use dot 3 in a dot 4 or 5 system but I didnt know if it was okay to use dot 4 in a dot 3. My v65 sabre uses dot 4 and I was surprised to see that the venture was dot 3 but it is also a year older than the sabre. Thanks, Karl

Being not realy have ever toured Id probaby have so many places in the US that I would like to see on a bike. I would really like to tour the new england states in the early fall, the digital camera. My job took me to Maine, NH, RI, and MA and just being to see what I saw in that short time was so historical. Just staying out of the city and watching the trees change would be a nice start. What is sad though is that one of my best friends alwasy wanted to take a 7 day tour and he died of esophigus (spelling) cancer before I had a bike that was worthy of doing so. Other than that I love the ocean and florida and would love to see the keys. Would also love to see Montana. Hell anywhere I ride is something id like to see, who am I kidding...lol:12101:
