  1. Can anyone here comment on the Yamaha "On Tour" jacket and or pants? I'd like to know what temperature range they will be effective in and any general comments about them. I have not been able to locate them at any local dealers to take a look at them in person.
  2. well I say there is some satisfaction that comes from working on your bike, I just changed the oil and filter on mine and it felt pretty good now I'm thinking of the rear diff and the coolant. So I can see how one thing leads to another. I have had some bikes that were more fun to work on than to ride for various reasons but I don't think the Royal Star falls into that category. Those extra lights sound pretty cool I might have to look into those!
  3. Yep and that's with a squeaky clean driving record and no claims. My 06 Royal Star is pretty reasonable costing me just under $500 but that's with dropping the collision coverage. That's about half what my last Harley was with collision.
  4. I'm in Canada and had 4 road bikes 2 years ago, and pretty much paying full insurance on each one. Every chance I had I would argue with different insurance companies that even though I had 4 motorcycles I can only ride one at a time and wanted some kind of insurance company that would take that into consideration. Well because I was never able to get anywhere with the insurance companies and tired of paying $3 K a year for insurance on 4 bikes some that got 2 or 3 hundred miles on them in a season I just gave up and now only own one motorcycle.
  5. Thanks for some great tips. I'm not sure if I will be getting any instructions with my eBay purchased ornament so if someone has a chance to measure how far back the front of the ornament is from the tip of the fender I would appreciate it. Gary N I do have a spring loaded punch, they work great. I will use very light spring pressure at first and see what it does. hey gunkylump I live on county road 18 kinda in between Harrow and Essex. I'm not familiar with the "Rock" maybe you can send a few details. We will have to set up a meet and great. I bought the bike at Thunder Road about a week ago.
  6. I've been busy on ebay looking at getting a few things for my RSTD, kind of to personalize it a bit although I must say the fellow that owned before me must have had similar tastes and hasn't left me much to do. But I love the Star Front Fender Ornament and think it would be a nice addition, the only thing is I will have to drill 2 holes in the front fender. I plan on using a new drill bit and tape the fender off where I will be drilling. Are there any other suggestions to prevent any paint chipping etc from occurring or anything else I need to concern myself with?
  7. yes the whole oil thing is a bit confusing seems like lots of guys here are using Rotella T by Shell. I like Shell products, at work on very expensive Road Test Equipment Shell grease is what is strongly recommended by the manufacturer. I went with Castrol 10w40 Motorcycle oil though, I have used it in the past but not on the last few bikes which were HD's. At Canadian Tire the Castrol and Shell Rotella were almost the same price which surprised me. I went with a Fram motorcycle filter which I'm not sure was a good choice but I'm racking up miles on the Star and I wanted to get clean oil in as soon as possible.
  8. I just have to say how happy I was to find this forum and I'm new here. I recently bought a 2006 RSTD which went into service April 07 so it still has a couple of years of warranty but after a few rides I had some things come up that I wanted to look into. First off I had the moaning shock issue which I found out through looking through the forums is not that unusual and that the shock is a bit of an issue on these bikes. The other question I had was about what oil and filter to use and other maintenance items which I also found answers to. So I guess right at the moment I haven't any thing else to look up but wanted to say that while reading through the many many threads I realized what a supportive and knowledgeable bunch of people hang out here and that I'm glad I found you all!
