What recession? LOL
-
I watched that video and I can say that sure makes it look easy! After doing all the work doing my rear tire on my Gen 1! It took a lot of work to do mine. Honda does have a better idea!

I really like the looks of the new Wings, but the only thing that scares me is all that "tupperware" hanging on them. The gen 1's are bad enough to do otherwise simple work on, like the rear tire r & r. The Stars look easier for those that do their own work!

of 2011 we partied last night like old geezers with other old geezers in the 55+ trailer park and met the New Year. Drove the two blocks home to our place and the better half crapped out before 1:30. I watched the tube til 4:30 and fell asleep on the sofa. Up at 8:00 AM. the VR called me out to the shop and I finished puttin' the plastic back on. New tire etc. The weather was beautiful, over 75 by the afternooon. Went up to Davenport (Florida) and bought the wife some new shoes for her trip to Virginia to her girl friends. Stopped at Perkins and had a good breakfast and then a nice leisurely putt back home. The bike has been down for most of December for clutch work and a new rear tire, (waiting for parts) so although short, the ride was a nice break from the lousy weather we had the past three weeks. Had a great Christmas here although a cold one, relatively speaking for Florida. My sympathy goes out to the bretheren in the northern latitudes, but kudos to all of them that didn't let the weather stop them! Hoping all of you have a great year.

I saw a claim in Dunlops website that the warranty would be voided on their tires with the use of any product like that. Anyone else?

Electrical Problem

Is there a way to test a stator without the motor running? I am in the middle of a new tire install and have the bike disassembled (exhaust removed) and as much as I like loud pipes, it would be a bit much and probably get me in trouble in my neighborhood! It read about 12.5 volts when running and the lights brighten and dim when revving the motor. I.m guessing the rectifier, but would like to be sure before spending the money. I'm going to check the plug contacts and see if they might be bad. Appreciate any help. Edit Went out and checked AC voltage across to ground on each terminal and at 2000 RPM's all were reading around 20 volts AC +/- a couple. Also with the stator disconnected the lights did not flicker as before. Assuming it is running only on the battery? Did not read any resistance to ground on all three white wires from the stator either Is this okay that I posted this on this post or should I have created my own post? I'm not to bright when it comes to forum decorum! -
No problem with my garage door! CARPORT! :rotfl:

Mine a 1st gen identical symptoms. Installed Progressives and Condors brace and no more problem at all. Did not check neck bearings though. But I'm happy! Hope your problems are fixed by now.

Anyone looking for a First GEN???
Zane replied to bluerstd08's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Earl, here's a tip for you, When someone posts something like that for sale ask them to email you a current photo of the bike and a current headline from a newspaper showing the date included with the same picture. I know that if you are looking local it's no big deal and not a major inconvenience to have to look at a lemon, but when you drive the distance you did on this one you could save yourself some misery. If they don't want to do this, then you know there's something fishy! -
Hey, what's a Canadian car? Is that what they're called after the drive over the Ambassador Bridge? Now that's funny, I don't care!

I have been having trouble with signing in lately and today I did some checking and found that my virus software by CA Internet Security was apparently blocking me from signing in. The software had enabled the "Protected Mode" of my browser and would not allow me to log in. I would enter my user name and password and then it would log me in to the redirect screen and then I guess drop me back out of the log in. I had to diable that and enter the sites URL manually as an allowed site and then re-enabled protected mode and it has worked fine ever since. Don't really understand what caused it to do it because I was logging in okay just last week. I went out of town for a week and when i came back I couldn't log in. Anyone else out there have CA Security software? That's how I fixed it.

I've had a couple of those over the years. Very handy! One thing that I have to mention. DON"T wrap it around an exhaust pipe! Those people that do the catalog photo shoots don't have a freakin' clue! Ijits!

I may have missed it while I was reading, but is there a relevant conversion that would apply to a 1st Gen Venture? If my memory serves me (at my age sometimes it does...sometimes not) it seems to me that there is a mention of a shim somewhere in the process. Please enlighten me! Thanks
