Oil change info
dunkins1 replied to ecbaatz's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
Thanks Du-Rron for posting. I followed the amounts listed - double and triple checking it. I don't have a motorcycle jack and am wondering if it is possible that more oil drained being tilted resting on the kick stand then if the bike was upright and level. You wouldn't think but I am still at a loss why the dipstick still isn't even wet after having about 3.6 quarts in the main oil tank. -
Oil change info
dunkins1 replied to ecbaatz's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
Hey gang, I have a question. Working on my first oil change and am greatly concerned about the amount of oil required. In the middle of changing my oil, I quickly discovered the location challenge of the two front drain plugs next to the frame. Long story short, had to run to the store to get a 18mm wrench since there was not enough room for a socket. I left the main tank and oil filter off draining as I went to the store to get the proper tool for the front two plugs. Long story short, I put 2.4 quarts in the crankcase and 3.2 quarts in the main tank. Checking the dip stick in the upright position, no oil was touching the dip stick. I added the remaining oil of the 6 quarts and there is still no oil on the dip stick. I read somewhere someone say nearly a quart of oil is still in the system. Now I am questioning how much oil is really required. I guess with the main tank, the dip stick should be the proof, but how would one know if there wasn't enough or if there was too much oil in the crankcase?? Thoughts?? Bill -

2018 - 2019 Tall heated drivers backrest
dunkins1 replied to Twocoats's topic in Third Gen Parts and Accessories
I too have a Yamaha factory tall heated back for sale. I purchased this past March (2023). In August I decided to get the Utopia back rest. Still have original box. If any one is interested, let me know. I called about 15 different dealerships before I found one. It cost me $283 plus tax and shipping. I'd ship it (within the lower 48 states) to you $225.00 total. -
I had the Yamaha stock tall heated backrest for a few months, then I decided to get the Utopia backrest instead. I had one of theirs on my 2003 Midnight Venture that I liked pretty well. So far the Utopia backrest on my 2018 is doing great. If anyone is in the market to purchase a near new tall heated backrest look me up.

Luggage Rack

Does anyone know what paint is used for the Yamaha stock trunk rack? Mine has a chip, it would be nice to be able to touch it up. -

Extended Warranty

Thanks for your input. -
Hello all, I'm the second owner of a 2018 Yamaha SVTC. So far no problems but I did have the brake switch and starter serviced under warranty per the recall. My original factory warranty expires in Feb. 2024. While at the dealership, I asked about after market warranties and they have one that looks pretty good in terms of coverage, unlimited miles, 3 years for about $1300. Typically I would never touch one of these things but reading about some of the engine problems does concern me about what might be to come. I have just under 6,000 miles on it. On the other hand, I love this bike and for the money it's hard to beat the features, comfort and performance. I am curious if any others have considered or purchased an additional after market warranty and thoughts for or against it. While at the dealership getting the starter replaced, I was looking at the Indian Pursuits. A lot of money for similar features on the SVTC which makes seriously consider the extended warranty to keep what I have. Thoughts?

USB connection in trunk
dunkins1 replied to dunkins1's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
Don't mean to belabor this topic but for the heck of it, I hooked up my work iphone to both USB connectors and didn't get that error message. I have a Google Pixel 6 (android) that appears to triggering the message. Not sure if it is a coincidence or not. -

Hey everyone, I just bought a 2018 Transcontinental and am loving it so far. I found the Yamaha stock driver taller heated back rest. Anyone replaced one or have any tips on the install? I took the seat off thinking it would be a 5 minute job but with all the plastic crap, and having to meet some friends I stopped before I broke anything.
