Clutch Upgrade and Starter Problems
kkent66 replied to kkent66's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks for the response and diagram. The starter motor runs non-stop in all three states. I Also have an update. My neighbor was helping me with the clutch upgrade. I have my stebel air horn mounted to what I belive is the engine ground....same spot as stock horn. I removed the setbel, and the engine ground, so I could get to the bolts on the clutch basket cover a little easier. Anyway I had just put the cover over the clutch basket and ran into the house to get a few rags in case I did not get the gasket on properly. While I was in the house my neighbor is now telling me he tried to start the bike. If the engine ground was not on would this cause a realy, or the swtich, to durn out? How do I figure out what is broken??? -
I have been working on the PCW clutch upgrade on my 2006 RSV with 42,000 miles. I road to work, then Iron Pony after work to pick up oil filter and oil. Bike has been running great minus the slipping clutch. I honestly dont know if my clutch upgrade worked or not because after I had put everything back together I turn the key to on and before I could hit the starter button the bike fired up on its own. NEVER done that before. I decided to take the battery cables off for a few minutes. Put them back on turned the key to one and the damn thing fires on its own again. The entire time the starter motor is running. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 2006 RSV with 42,000 miles. Bike is in great shape and only problem I am having is my choke lever no longer stays on its own. I have to hold the lever out until engine is warmed up. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be appreciated!

Thanks Goose - My bike is a 2006 RSV and has 42,000 miles. Valves were adjusted by dealer this past summer before my trip from Ohio to California and back. I have been talking via email with Freebird and as you have pointed out all signs seem to point to valve cover gasket. I am going to tfootpowder spray and see what I can find!!! Thanks for your input - I appreciate you expertise and wisdom!!!

I have a small oil leak. Attaching a few pics. The leak is coming what looks like a connector coming from just above the exhaust and the back side of the engine. There is a hose connected to this but it is leaking at the point it comes out of the engine. Sorry for the lack of technical expertise and hope the pictures explain what I have a hard time putting into words!!

I went through the same process this past spring. I ended up sending my seats to Rick Butler and had the buttbutler modification done. If you go to the classifieds you will find his info. I travled from Ohio to California and back with my new seats first week of August. My wife and I were amazed and I have never been so comfortable on my bike. I STRONGLY recomend you check this out. I paid $70 for both seats plus shipping. He did a fantastic job and cant believe the quality of his work for such a low price!!! Only other thing I did for my seats was purchase a butt pad from alaska leather and a utopia backrest. All 3 seat mods/additons I found from this site!!!

Purchased an F4 for my 2006 this spring. Road from Ohio to California and back and I have to say I love this windshield. One of the perks for me is being able to pull into gas station, grab a few paper towels, and start cleaning the bugs of the windshield. I had so many other bikers start yelling....NO....NO....you are going to scratch your shield......Not when you have an F4!!!!!

I have a 2006 RSV with 41,000 miles. I just returned from a 2 week trip from Ohio to California and back. The bike ran like a dream and I want to keep it that way. I am wondering what preventive work I should be doing on my bike?? Here is a list of recent mait/work; 1) New fuel pump - warranty 2) New stearing head bearing - warranty 3) New brake lines/front and back 4) Valves adjusted 2 months ago 5) New radio/rec - warranty 6) Just chaged oil after my trip and final drive oil 7) System flush before the trip - still have original radiator, hoses, etc.... Any advice/thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Thanks! -
I have a 2006 RSV. In the last day I have used my vacum pump to flush my rear brake and clutch and now getting ready to flush out my front brakes. Does it matter what caliper I flush first? Any thoughts/tips/suggestion would be greatly appreciated!

If it is an 08 I would take to a decent dealer and see about getting it replaced under warranty. I have a good luck with contacting Yamaha customer relations before taking to a dealer. -
My dealer, Pony Powersprt, has taken very good of me and my bike! Took my bike in on Tuesday, they ordered a new pump under warranty, and I will have my bike back this Friday/Saturday at the latest. They are also replacing the fuel filter per my request! Thanks again for all the helpful comments!

Goose, Ran home at lunch and pulled the battery cover off the left side. Turned the key on and did not hear the fuel pump engage. Took my screwdriver and tapped the fuel pump and away it went! Bike started right up. Just for the fun of it I turned the fuel cock to off and let the bike run until it died. Then I turned the key off and back on......NOTHING!! Tapped the fuel pump and away it went. I am having it dropped of at dealer this afternoon. Thanks again for your help!

I purchased a set of E 3's last summer and love them. I have about 6,000 miles on them now and the tread still looks new. I am going from Ohio to California and back in August and will be about an 8,000 mile round trip. Trying to figure out if I should put a new set on before I leave or will my current set get me there and back safely?

Thanks for the info. I take it you think it is a bad fuel pump? I have 3 weeks remaining on my warranty. Just had my valves adjusted and carbs sync, new plugs, etc.....

I have a 2006 RSV with 35,000 miles. I have had an on again off again problem with trying to start the bike. I will go out to start my bike, I pull the choke, turn the key on and I will NOT hear the fuel pump. The bike will fire and start but never make it to a fast idol. The funny part about this is 2 hours later I come back flip the key and I will hear the fuel pump engage right away. The first time I noticed was after a good wash. After a day of sitting I got the bike running, turned the hose on, and sprayed down the engine with water like it was on fire. NOTHING.....did not choke, spit, sputter or die....kept running like there was never a problem. This morning I went out to start the bike to ride to work. The bike sat in the garage for two days (rained all weekend) and had not run since Friday. The bike was a dry as dry gets. I pull the choke, turn the key on, and NO noise from the fuel pump. The bike cranks, fires, and starts but stays at a low RPM. Slowly the bike chugs out and dies. I placed my hand on all for exhaust pipes and all four were hot. I have thought for a while I either have fuel pump or fuel pump relay issues. Any thoughts??
