About to book room in Dahlonega. (Wife handles this stuff) Looking forward to the MD. Not excited about pulling a trailer through Atlanta on Friday PM though.

Looks like I'm destined to come. Wife says GO! She wants it fixed or removed. 2 friends have offered their trailers. Another offered a high class wheel chock. Son wants to come. I guess if y'all can troubleshoot & point me in the right direction I'll be riding this summer.

All of a sudden this looks doable after all. I can trailer it if there's someone to help me work on it. I'm not sure exactly what parts I need. Still running on 2 cyl, tach not working, still backfiring. I can put about $250 in to parts right now.

I really need to be there but my bike has gone down so far I'd feel like the town drunk at a ladies Monday morning Bible study. On the other hand if I don't come I might as well sell this beast and move on. 3 weeks ago tach died and I think it's running on 2 cylinders, and that's just the beginning. Sad thing is, I think internally she's solid. Just needs tune up, carb work and all the "standard fixes" listed for this 30 year old neglected lady. I could only pull it off with the support of a recovery group. (Oh yeah and a winning lottery ticket!)

Wanted to ride my ole 83 standard & learn how to sync carbs, troubleshoot backfiring/eratic tach, hit or miss headlight and meet yall. As expected rush jobs came in at last minute + son in law called & asked if I'd play 2 men and a truck this weekend. WILL I EVER GET TO PLAY WITH MY TOYS?

A Michilan was going to be $2?? + installation. They said they could get Dunlops at 1/2 off.

$140 includes the Elite 3 tire. I was assuming that's a good deal. If not point me in the right direction.

Thanks for the invites but the threads are showin and the truck transmission is a goin. I'd prefer to tackle it myself instead of dealer for $ reasons and to know how to handle it. Just never messed with a shaft drive before and know it needs to be serviced. The Yamy shop quoted $140 including tax (I think) to mount and balance an Elite 3 if I brought the wheel in. That seems like a good deal to me. They said they'd have to order it so I assume it's fresh. Think it's funny that an '85 1st gen meets their requirements. Glad you mentioned the fuel filter ddoggma. This project is growing! Hopefully between the tutorials on this site and a little help from my friends I'll pull it off...and get her rolling again.

Asked local Yamaha dealer to quote new tire with them doing the labor on my 83 Venture. They won't work on bikes older than '85! Afraid if they break something they can't get parts. Now I see why folks are parting out much nicer bikes than mine. Guess I'm gonna have to get brave and do this myself. Studied the process but still uncomfortable. Would like to see a video with shaft/spline, brakes, ??? maintainance included. Wonder if I could find some help here... http://www.barbervintagefestival.org/ this weekend.
