  1. OK, here is my question: Why are you all putting these loud horns on? The only people that I see that use horns, are the people on the coast or big cities that are in a big hurry. I've used my horn to see if it works, but if I needed it, I think I'd be better off figuing out a plan of excape, rather than blowing my horn. Or is it that you just like adding stuff? Just wondering, Steve
  2. What's the deal with these harley throw away pipes? My brother-in-law is giving me a set off of his 06, and friends are telling me that the first thing a harley guy does is dump these mufflers. They seem to laying around everywhere. They must take them off for a reason, right? They certainly are not good looking, that's for sure, so why do the rsv's want them, just for sound? I might put them on for a bit just to see what they sound like, but the traditional VR mufflers have a good look to them. Just wondering, Steve
  3. I'd say that it is an add-on. My 86 had one on the handlebars. Looked waaaaaaaaaaaay out of place. I just mounted it on the bar in front of the right bag. Out of the way and will do what I need it to do. (charge my cell phone, or light a swisher sweet. I actually quit smoking 20 years ago, but have always wanted a swisher sweet. Steve
  4. If you have'nt done anything yet, start by draining the oil. Now, keep in mind that you have a gal of oil and maybe 5 gal of gas in there. You will need a BIG drain tank. If you aren't the kind of guy to take the carbs apart, then you need to take it to a mech. Somehow a float stuck open or like was mentioned, a needle stuck, or something like that. Keep in mind that all of that gas just wiped away all of your lubrication inside of your engine, so when you fire it up, keep the RPM's low for a while. I'm not a mechanic, but I do tinker, Steve
  5. How did you determine that you had no gas? The first thing that I would do is check my oil level. Steve
  6. Are you guys talking, 2nd generation speedos? My 86 has always seemed to be off by about 7% I figure. Where can I get info on this speedohealer? Steve
  7. I don't know what boots you are talking about, but the super brace is a slip fit. In fact, if you cock it, it won't go. No room for anything else for sure. Steve
  8. Go to your local yamaha shop. Believe it or not. Steve
  9. I'll add one thing to this. I bought the venture last summer and the windshield was so bad, that it was very difficult to see through. Soooooooo, I put blue painters tape on the top several inches and cut 2" off with my jig saw. filed it smooth and it was great, I could see over the top perfectly. Now the cool part: When I removed the painters tape, I had a perfectly clear windshield. so, I took it off and put tape all over both sides, removing the clearcoat and have been using it like that ever since. I clean the bugs off after a ride with some sort of spray cleaner and apply lemon pledge. It seems just fine. Now comes my dilema, I am going to put on a new stock Yamaha windshield that I bought last winter very soon for a 3000 mile trip out west. I have no idea what this method will do to a clear coated stock windshield. Any thoughts anyone? Steve
  10. Cant' believe that I'm the first one to say that I use lemon pledge. It works though. Steve
  11. Hey Dan, That sounds like a great ride. I'll see those deserts in a few weeks. Me and my brother are riding out to bonneville speed week. We're staying at the Wendover Nv KOA for the week. We're riding straight out on 80, 3days, but comming back, leaving Wendover and heading northeast up over the great salt lake and through the titons and up into yellowstone and back home. Should be a great trip. Steve
  12. I have an 86 venture royale, and my brother-in-law is sending me his Road King mufflers. He said that he punched the catalitic converters out, but they are off of an 06, so I thought I'd try them on my venture to see how they sound. What's with the mounting of them? Shouldn't it just be some sort of bracket and a clamp? Thanks, Steve
  13. Go down to the Testing area and click on the thread, Signature testing. It will tell you how to do it. Or, do a search on the word, signature. Steve
  14. Jimbob5, My 1986 has the exact fuse panel, and it is stock. You are just missing the cover. Reread my post above, and you will see exactly what each fuse is for. Steve
  15. If you look under the cover for these fuses you will see a list of what they are for. From right to left: Hazard 15A Fan 10A Audio CB 5A Back up 5A with two spares to the right This is off of my 86 Steve
  16. Just last weekend, I replaced my fork seals, had my forks all apart and never saw anything that looked like that. I used a tech article from Venturers and a tech article from Ventureriders. The one from here had great pictures and still never saw what you have the picture of. Check out the tech section. Maybe it will have your answer. Steve
  17. Hipshot, When you had yours apart, did you actually get it so you could use it? I can turn mine with a pair of pliers, so I just turned it to reserve. I do think that it would be a good idea to take it off and take it apart and get it working smoothly though. So then that is the only fuel filter? Those two screens? Steve
  18. That's interesting, I saw the same backrest with the mark on it get sold a while back. Same video too. Wonder what's going on with that? Steve
  19. Hey Zag, check your messenger, or my profile and give me a call and come up sometime. Steve
  20. I just replied, but must have not hit the post button. Anyways, What a great build!! I love the inovation. That is truely unique. I raked my xs the exact same way. Now I need longer tubes. Your close by so I hope to see your bike soon. Keep choppin, Steve I get it now, I see that you have two posts going.
  21. Zagger, Man, that is one cool ride! I love the ingenuity. Must be a blast to ride without all the plastic. I know that I'll get to see it someday. Your only a few miles away. Steve
  22. I am planning on getting a headset this winter, and from the info that I have, I will be getting an "Edset". Seems to be a good choice. Steve
  23. I recently bought a 1986 venture royale, and found that at about 135 miles the indicator light came on. I have a switch on the left side for switching to reserve, but it doesn't move. At this piont, I usually put in about 3.5 gals. What's up with that? Steve
