  1. In Wisconsin, when you register your bike, and it doesn't matter what state you bought it in, you pay your registration fee plus .055% tax. And it also doesn't matter how many times that bike is bought and sold, same tax % every time. Thats the part that I don't like. My favorite vehicle tax story is about a guy that bought a boat (which I later bought) from a preacher. It ws a 28' boat set up for fishing on Lake Michigan. Well, they agreed on a price and also agreed on the price that would be used for tax purposes. When the state tax people contacted the preacher, he could not tell a lie, and the guy ended up paying the full amount due. Steve

  5. Kit, I was trying to think of how to begin. first of all, I have never read posts more interesting and informative than yours on this whine thing. I jsut bought a 2005 RSTD and have put 8 miles on it last weekend, I'll pick it up next weekend. I have heard no whine, BUT--I have one thing going for me, I am quite hard of hearing. I thank the main man for not having to hear all of the bad noises in this world that we live in. (there has got to be something good about getting older There is only 5000mi on this bike, so the oil has been changed once, regular yamaha oil. I have been trying to decide which oil to start using in this bike. With your input, I'm thinking I'll use 20/50 mix of sythetic and 10% lucas addative. Thanks for your input, Steve

  7. Happy thanksgiving to all you folks up north. Don't forget what you are thankful for. Family, friends, good health and of course a great ride. Steve
  8. One important thing to consider is handlebar position. On my 86VR it made a big difference on which position I had them in. Steve

  10. If I were in charge of this world, there would be NO insurance, BUT-- As we all know, I'm not, soooooooooooo For my 05 RSTD, with progressive it's $329-for MY 86vr it's $255 I think that they do what ever the hell they want. The one thing that I do know is that I DON'T KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! Steve
  11. Rick, I'm sitting here chomping at the bits. I'll get the bike tomorrow, but due to two guys that have to do paperwork and not screw it up, I'm on edge. But, I will bring it home tomorow in my trailer I have had lots of fun toys over the years, and I never look back or miss what I don't have. The future toys are waaaaaaaaaaay too much fun. Be sure and say hi to Marilyn for me! Steve

  15. Hey, thanks Orrin. I'll keep in touch and let you know what's going on. As far as the mustang seat goes, the passenger part will go, and a rear fender rack will take it's place, along with a seat rail. Hope it feels as good as it looks. Time will tell. Steve
  16. Hey Charlie, Now that's a real fish! Actually after I simmered it for a bit, it was quite good. I did add a little hot sauce though. I have a couple good recipies that I'll add when I have the time, and they do not include catfish. Now that I see that there are a bunch of fishermen here, are there any of you that ICE FISH? Can hardly wait for that. Steve
  17. Like all technology, the more you live with it, the more you can't live without it. This VR is the only bike that I've owned with a radio and such, and I've owned a bunch. The funny thing is that the gear indicator is what I missed. Steve
  18. Now I mean to tell you that I'm a fisherman, but this summer I've been riding, not fishing, so tonight when I went to make a batch of fish chowder, I used some catfish chunks. GARBAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ruined it. Normally I'd use Walleye, Sauger or Bluegill. I"ll never do that again. Steve (I'll have to take it to my starving student son in college.
  19. Any kind of lubricant underneath it should work. Good luck, Steve

Hey Hipshot, When I rode up to look at the 2005 RSTD, on my 86VR, I asked myself, what in the hell am I doing? this is a great bike. and when he was riding my bike in front of me, I'm looking at my bike saying, man that's a great looking bike, BUT,------I gotta do what I gotta do. Time to move on Steve

  23. Hey JT, Your right, It's a beauty, but at my age I gotta do what I gotta do. and I can''t keep them all around, maybe you should add it to your collection. I was going to get a 97, and then I would have kept the VR, But I fell in love (again) it's a GREAT bike!!!!!!! Steve
  24. Thanks Mike, I've never really understood this dark side thing though. When I sell my 86VR, someone will get a great bike, I'll tell you that. Steve
