  5. Du-Rron, Here is a post I found on the stromtrooper forum on this: I owned two 650 Versys 2011 and a 2013 prior to getting a 2014 650 V-Strom and last march moved up to a 2015 1000 V-Strom. The Versys were great fun and back then with limited availability of big bikes in Thailand the Versys really made sense. They were OK in the mountain twisty's but the engine lacks range through the gears so your very busy. Brakes felt hard and abs crude. Seat design pushes you forward into the tank and overall the bike is a bit cramped. Stepping off the Versys and onto the 650 V-Strom was breath of fresh. Build quality is better, comfort is way up and the brake system is much more refined. The engine is an absolute joy and I found on the same mountain twisty's I was able to ride harder and faster with more confidence with much less fatigue. The 1000 is very similar to the 650 but with more power, awesum brakes and a very good suspension set up. Downside compared to the 650 is fuel consumption. Given the two choices you put forward it would be the DL1000 all the way. Not sure if you have considered the DL650 but a great bike and maybe you would get a better deal.
  6. Yeah, Kevin, I wish we could have talked more at the dinner, but great meeting you anyways. And I have to say that if I had to ditch 3 of my bikes, I'd end up with the vstrom. Love that bike. It does it all.
  7. Update on my new to me V-strom- Just got back from a 8,800 mile, 6 week trip out west with the 650 vstrom and it was awesome. I did put a set of tires on in Oregon, but the ones that were on it would not have made another 4,500 miles. It did everything a big needs to do on a trip, and did it really good. That was a couple weeks ago, and just got back from the UP visiting Yooper, and picking blueberries-yum I added quite a bit of electrical stuff last winter: heated grips, rostra CC, voltmeter, ambiant temp, 12v outlets, driving lights,
  8. Tubes-Of course you already knew this and probably already have it done.
  9. This was on a SUZUKI DL650. Way over my head, but I had great help on the stromtrooper site. For a venture, good luck. As you know it's sold as a CAR CC.
  10. I put a rostra CC on my 09 650 vstrom last winter, and on a trip out west it was AWESOME!
  11. go to an auto parts store, and you will find, usually in the bargain bin, what is a mini grabber. They are usually about a foot long, and flexable. That might do the trick. Or a hardware store might have something similar.
  12. Buy a set of motorcycle Frogg Toggs. You'll stay dry.
  13. Hey, talking about pork in the pines, look who I met out at Cruzin the Kootneys in Castlegar Canada.
  14. Passing through IA tomorrow. I'll be camping at the Sunrise campground in Storm Lake IA on Sunday night. If your in the area, stop in. I'll be riding my Suzuki V-strom.
  15. Reminds me of very often when I'm out riding, I pass many guys sitting on their mower mowing acres. Rather be riding
  16. Woke up this am to windows 10 staring at me. Guess I'll just have to deal with it. Seems OK, and time will tell if I like it better or not. But, it's here.
  17. That is what is holding me back from installing the apes on my RSTD. I would not be able to use the windshield at all. Think at least for now, I like the option that I have.
  18. I called and talked with Flanders last year and this is the number he gave me: 650-08093 BUT they are not wide enough for my RSTD. Maybe for the Venture? He did say the knurling was the correct width, but I'd check it out.
  19. Great adVENTRE, Flanders does have the correct knurled width. I don't remember which it is, but you could call them and ask.
  20. Yup, Skydoc has everything that you will need.
  21. Yep, an amazing deal, and I wish your son the best with it. Hopefully the guy was on the up and up and a good clean up, some minor maint. and he'll be riding. Can't wait to hear the rest of the story.
  22. Seem like the last time I looked at this thread you said that you were done, and it wasn't that long ago. You really should know better than to say something like that.
