  1. If there is dew on the floor in that thing, you had better do something about getting rid of the moisture while your bike is in there. Better off not having it.---Gonna need some vents for sure. Years ago, I built an ice fishing shack just like that, only using slats for the tubing. Still have it. Good luck, Steve
  2. My windshield got damaged and need a new one. I just put an ad in the classifieds looking for a stock windshield. If you have one, please let me know. Thanks, Steve
  3. OK, if you haven't done it yet, you need to drill out the catylitic converter. It's not hard at all, just get an aircraft drill bit, say 1/4", approx 12" long and drill a series of holes (as close as you can get to each other) around the OD of the converter, then a solid bar from the other end and knock it out. Steve
  4. Man, it's hard to keep track here. What are we looking for now? Steve
  5. They do have the quick release for the 2nd gen. I just talked with them this afternoon, and the backrest for my 05 RSTD is 179 plus 65 for the quick release. I would also get the cover for the bar. Steve
  6. Hey Charlie, Good choice! Not long distance? I met a guy out in Spearfish SD, last week, that was on his way home from visiting his daughter in Alaska. He was from Vermont, and was riding a KLR650. Carrying all of his camping gear and having the time of his life. Actually, I have a smaller dual purpose, a honda XL250R and have a basket on the back for my tackle / cooler box and two rod holders on the side Good fishing, Steve
  7. I'm seriously thinking of getting one of these, but my 05 RSTD has a mustang studded solo seat. Will this backrest mount in back of the solo seat or what. not sure about how it mounts. I called utopia and she wasn't sure. She did say that I wouldn't be cutting a slot in the seat for sure. That it frame mounted. She offered to send me a bracket to see if it would work. If I got a mustang, I'd have to order a different seat. Maybe I'll get a hold of Diamond R. Any help would be appreciated. (by my back) Steve

I like it, and the red really sets it off. I'll look forward to having one. (and of course, it just happens to match my bike) Steve
  9. So-------We wont' go hungry for sure. And, I'm still bringing the beans Steve
  10. Ruffy I'm really looking forward to your review. Around here, without my helmet, and of course I wear glasses, my eyes water in the cool mornings and especially on the road. So I wear rather large over the glasses goggles. Something smaller like these would be great if they work. Good luck, Thanks, Steve
  11. Very good suggestion Eck, I have to start buying bigger bottles. Steve
  12. Biscuits and gravy is my favorite, count me in Steve
  13. Hi Jonas, It was a pleasure to meet you. And I'm glad you had a chance to wash your bike. It sure did look great! Thanks for a taste of your black death too. (I think) Steve
  14. Hey Bob, glad that you and Karen came out of this OK. When I started riding back in the 60s, most of my riding was at night, now, I don't even consider riding at night around here. The deer thng is way too serious for me. and way too many! Hunting seasons need to be adjusted much differently than they do it now, IMO. Steve

Tomorrow I'll wear my " I tubed the hootch" in honor of your ride. Steve
  16. Hey Mike, That was great--Who'd a thunk it? Steve
  17. Thanks Dave, that's just what I needed. Steve
  18. I am connecting two 12v outlets on my 05 RSTD. One under the seat with a wire running under the tank and up the bars to my GPS, and one in the left saddlebag to charge cell, mp3 or whatever. right now, I have them hooked up to the battery with a 5a fuse. In back of my battery there is a white connection that has 5 wires: black, yellow, blue, brown and green. It is also fused. (factory) Can I use any of these wires to connect to, instead of connecting to the battery, so that these outlets are keyed? Right now they are hot all the time. Thanks, Steve
  19. I always do the same as RR, when I use my debit card, I always check, credit. Steve
  20. I made that switch from an 86VR to an 05 RSTD for that exact reason and love it. Around here, the windshield is usually off and to put on 500 miles a day with the windshield on is a great bike to do it on. I ride one up, and have the bike set up that way, so everything just packed on the back for traveling/camping. No problem You will love it, Steve
  21. It could very well be that with your older windshield, the hazy film is the clear coating on the windshield. If it is, the only way to have it be clear is to remove it. (the clearcoat) I removed mine on my 86vr with masking tape, put it on and pull it off. It pulled the hazy clearcoat off. (both sides) I'd be very carefull and see if this is what you want/need to do. Good luck, Steve
  22. Sounds like a great idea to me, but looking at my summer ride calendar, weekends are mostly full for me. Later in July and same in Aug, I'd be able to come. I'm sure everyone else has the same type of summer-------full. I always think of summer as a bunch of weekends and they go by very fast. Hope it works out. Steve
  23. Part of that routine kinda sounds like me:crackup: Hey, you take care of yourself, and hope it all goes good at the doc on Mon. Steve
  24. Ok, the lid is open. I took my dremel with the tiny cutoff wheel and cut the roll pin between the hinge, and opened the lid. You'd never know. Turns out the latch mechanism was bent in several places. Took it all apart and got everypart of it working like it should, and now it works like new. Of course lubed it up very well. I got the pins out and tomorrow I'll replace them. Not a big deal. That is the most over engineerd latch you can imagine. the idiot that designed it should have been fired somewhere around the turn of the century. and it wastes lots of space on top of it all. Thanks for your ideas, Steve
  25. The day before I left for MD, I had my rear wheel /drive shaft out for lubing and about drove myself nuts getting it back in. I ended up removing the pumpkin like you, and that made it much easier. I will add two things though--have the U-joint at a 90deg (someone told me this after the fact) so that it can only swivel straight up and down, AND have it in gear. I think having it in gear might just be the biggest tip. Steve
