  1. Yup, Here is what you do: From Milwaukee, I-94 south to 294 to 55 to 355 to 80 and out to Don's. It's 120mi to I-80 from Milwaukee and you will avoid the downtown traffic. However, A bunch of the 355 is 55mph and the cops do patrol, so be carefull The one thing that you CAN'T avoid is 80 through the armpit of the world, Gary area. Lots of trucks, but it doesn't take long to get through. The last time I went that way on my bike, a deer was standing next to 80 waiting to cross--death wish for sure. To say nothing of who might hit him/her. Steve
  2. That is a very good one to use! I've been using that motorcycle check list for several years, just keep printing a new one out to update what I might need/want to take along on a particular trip. It's very handy, and you can go back and look at the last one and go from there. Think I have 4 or 5 copy's to look back on. Don't think I'll be needing it for a while though. Steve
  3. A little late maybe, but yes you can always tell how cold it is by the creeks and groans, and by how hard the seat is when you get in, and of course the cure is warmer weather. It'll by fine. A good battery is critical. Steve
  4. I did notice that craigslist isn't there today. But a SOPA notice Steve
  5. I don't know why, but it reminds me of that song: Throw another log on the fire, honey:rotf::rotf: Good timing on your part getting it fixed for sure. Should be making ice tonight. Steve
  6. Holy Cow, that is an amazing story arlright, and I'm with RR, love the last line. sure glad that he is OK though. Steve

    MSN

Sorry Dan, no problem with MSN, I have been on minutes ago. Hope you get it figured out. Steve
  8. The tent that I have now is the Hooligan 3, and I wouldn't trade it, but before this, I used a two man timberline for many years, and I'll say that I was in some really good storms and in the morning when everyone was out drying out there stuff, mine was dry and the tent stood up to the storms. I also used one up in the boundry waters on a week long canoe trip and it stormed alot, and again, I stayed dry and the tent stood up well. If I were to get a timberline now, it would be the 3 man so me and my traveling gear would all fit comfortably. One thing for sure is that a vestibule is a great thing to have, whatever tent you end up with. Good luck, Steve
  9. Calgaryrider, Actually what saddlebum listed are pretty common for a decent tent, but the one thing that most do not have is a rain fly that goes to the ground. This is the one thing that I was looking for when I got my Coleman Hooligan 3. It does. Another good one that I have is an Eureka timberline. Both are reasonably priced. One more thing, in my opinion is that it should be self supporting. Sometimes getting a stake in the ground is impossible, and a self-supporting tent won't matter. Check out some of these online. Steve
  10. In answer to your question, the last tent that I bought is my favorite. It's a coleman, hooligan 3, and has plenty of room for all of your stuff and has a vestibule for some of the things that you don't want to bring into the tent. Reasonably priced. I think around $70. The rain fly goes all the way to the ground, and that is a good thing. And is easy to set up and take down. Good luck, Steve
  11. I wondered if anyone had noticed. We have a similar law in Wisconsin, but you can be sure that the cops don't know about it. I keep a copy of the statute in my wallet, and have run the red lights on numerous occasions with my bike. I'm just wondering how long it will take before I have to show it. Steve
  12. Looks good, I like it too. I had a 1986 honda XL250R that was red with a red engine. Nice contrast with both bikes. Steve
  13. Congratulations Frank! and thanks again for the well wishes. Now you can go fishing when you want. You got me beat by one year, worked for 45 yrs. But can relate to not dealing with stupid questions and MEETINGS. My favorite Dilbert joke is his boss asking him what he did for the last year when he didn't get that project done--He replied: I remember going to meetings. I don't know if I said this, but my goal is to not know what day it is. Steve
  14. You of course realize that it's JANUARY and that a roadstar in Wisconsin should bring no more than 3 grand I would think. There are a lot of them for sale out there, and you should check it out, before you buy. Good luck, Steve
  15. Pickinfred, You watched it a dozen times??????????? I watched it once and hope to regain my sight by morning. Steve
  16. Sailer, That reminds me of my dad always asking me how I had time to work with all that I do, and my answer was always: I don't! (that was when I was working) But now that I'm not working I still don't have time for work,--and--I don't care. I took the alarm clock off of my night stand too, but then realized that when I have to get up early to go Ice fishing, I'll need it. Flyingfool-----I thought that you were older than time:confused24: Steve
  17. Jeff, That is great news that he is doing better, but sorry that he took the fall again. Hopefully they'll keep some sides on the bed for a while. I think getting out of the hospital environment is a very good thing, and he'll improve every day. My best wishes for your dad, Steve
  18. Don't worry about it, one of the mods will move it to the classifieds. But, to answer your question, I think you have it priced fairly. I didn't see the mileage though. Up here in Wisconsin, this is NOT the time to be trying to get the best price for your bike, but where you at, it probably doesn't matter at all. Good luck, Steve
  19. Thanks for all of the good wishes. And Dan, try not to get run over again! I'm still waiting for the best ever ancho pepper recipie. The village brings me wood when they trim/cut down trees in the winter, and they're doing it now, so I'll have the time to get it cut up when they bring it in. I saw the crew and endloader go by this morning, so they must be cutting somewhere in town. Just fried up some fresh bluegills and eggs for breakfast, and now getting my icefishing stuff sorted out from yesterday, and think I'll go back out this aft. I have no one here to drive crazy, cept ME, and I've been that way for ever. My dad said that he wanted to buy me breakfast some morning-I told him that I'd have to check my schedule. Steve
  20. I've planned this trip many times over, and some day I'll do it. I've been to Banff on my xs650 in 1975 and is nothing short of spectacular. If your coming this way, you can stay here for a night if it works into your plans. I will go from here to Duluth, then across the northern states on hwy #2 and take Road to the sun highway and up to Nelson, BC then to Jasper in the NP, and down to Banff, and back home somehow. Have a great trip, Steve
  21. Yup, Jan 1 I retired, just like Dave. When my fellow workers went back to work, I went ice fishing. Even caught some fish. Now I'll do like Dave, whatever I want. Started working in Jan of 1967, after I got out of the navy, and now I'll work at not working. Steve
  22. Congratulations Dave, What are you going to do tomorrow????????????? Steve
  23. hahahahaha Now that is funny-----------I think :rotf::rotf: Steve
  24. Well Jeff, this is not the news that i have been waiting for, and maybe, just maybe that slight chance will happen. I am reminded, through your dad, that, one minute life is good and in a split second, not. I have reminded my dad about being careful about falling. He is about 88 and I do worry about this. My thoughts will be with you and your dad, Steve
  25. Saddlebum, Now that is very cool. Learn something new everyday. I wonder if something like that is available today? I've got a lincoln arc welder like that, and it seems that you just plug the leads into it, right? Steve
