  1. I know what you mean Eck, when I crashed after MD, I noticed later that my bell was not there. I was really bummed because in 09 at Don's MD, Lowell gave me that bell. BUT, when I got home and was going through my Jacket pockets, there it was, loop broken off and a bit scraped up but I had it. Turns out Bobby found it and put it in my inside pocket. Can't thank her enough. At the Venturers 15 yr get together in Tennessee after MD I was telling the story, and Craig sent me a Venturers bell. It is now on the bike. A big thank you to Craig for that. I'm going to put a loop on my VR bell and hang it in a place on honor, just not sure where yet.
  2. First a question that I have asked before: When you punch a hole in the lip, isn't there a chance a spark would cause a BIG problem? I'm not sure about the ventures but on my RSTD, here is how it works. When the guage goes to "F", the countdown begins, and when the engine starts sputtering, I switch it over to reserve. Now if I'm riding normally that will be at around 15 miles on "F", (before I switch it to reserve) then I can go another probably 30 miles, but like when I was out west, (pulling a trailer) sometimes it would be at 7 to 8 miles, then I'd say I can go about 15 miles. Mileage was 26/27mpg then, so I judge how far I can go by how many miles on "F" before I switch it to reserve. So the wind plays the biggest part in this for me. And I have a smaller tank to boot.
  3. Yup, couldn't be simpler that this. been using it for years.
  4. That is awesome, glad that you both are enjoying the bikes
  5. Hey Gary, that would be a great patch!
  6. One of the newer Triumph Bonneville's would fit the bill perfectly. 451 lbs dry weight. And a 2000 to 2006 should be in the price range you are looking at.
  7. Hoss was at PIP and said that he was going to stop by your place on his 50th anniversary trip out east. He also mentioned that you had stopped by. That was his 87 in the pics. Hope you have a good trip home Chaplain Dusty.
  8. You guys that are punching holes in the filler neck, I'd really like to see a picture of what it looks like when your done. I'd consider doing it, but don't want to jump in before I know what I'm getting myself into. I suppose I should look and see if there is a youtube video, huh? Thanks
  9. Coudn't have said it better Bob

  11. Good thread, I've been thinking of going lighter for some time and last year bought a 2002 Triumph Bonneville, and this year was thinking of buying a 650 Vstrom, but haven't yet, but I'd like to ride one first. It seems like the foot/leg postion might be troublesome, but like I said, I'd like to ride one. I'll keep the RSTD though. I did talk with a guy in Canada and he said that on dirt tracks, the Vstom needs tubes though.
  12. Thanks brother, take care of yourself and stay safe
  13. Let's hope that gene pool stops there.
  14. THE YEAR OF THE CAR/TRUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Got home around 5 this aft. Decided to head it back home from Superior. What a great group! And I have to say that the kanuucks are a great group and without them it for sure wouldn't be the same. And those of you that were thinking of coming, you really need to come next year. What a great way to celebrate! Gary and Anne, Thank you so very much for all that you do, and it's a lot, and it is always so good to see you both. It was so great meeting people that I haven't met before and those that I have. And the food doesn't even need any talking about. RED---WOW, you are the man. I think a Winnipeg meet would be a really good idea. And to our new member "Sidecar", that was very special
  15. I'm not saying it's a nice peaceful ride through the countryside but I have been in far worse traffic. Where?
  16. eagleeye is dead nuts I'm gonna take that as a compliment. Might be the first time I've ever been "dead nuts" hahaha Although I still do think that there is a tab on the rear of the front seat that keeps it locked down.
  17. I'll wait to see the pics
  18. I use a 30-06 myself The last few years i have noticed that in the spring there are more dead deer on the highway in the spring. Just saying
  19. The hospitality was awesome, and I loved being in the upper BC mountains. Can't be beat! I loved that part of my trip! Especially the Icefield parkway
  20. Too bad you didn't stop in or call, 20 miles away, sorry I missed you. Anyone can stop in.
  21. Glad you had a great trip. Someday I'm gonna cross that bridge. Lawry's in Ishpeming is the real deal. And I'm sure that you know that it is a miners meal, and the big mines are there. I've stopped there before and brought some home too.
  22. Except a liter of rum is $23 instead of $10 and gas is $1.30 a liter instead of $2.50 a gal etc.
  23. Thanks for your reply Rick, but #10 looks like it is for the the passenger seat. (attaches to the fender) I looked at both the stock and mustang passenger seat and it appears that is what it is for. And it also appears that those two rubber bumpers is what the back of the seat sits on. And I called the Yamaha shop/parts and he said that the riders seat is held on by those front allen bolts. Seems hard to believe to me. Right now the back of the drivers seat will go up and down with the front allen bolts in place, not much but some. This is not all that important, cause sometimes I ride without the allen bolts in at all. Maybe there will be a RSTD at Pork in the Pines! And I can check it out. By the way, 4 weeks in the saddle and I have to say thanks for making my seat COMFORTABLE!
  24. I have a mustang seat and a stock seat for my 05 RSTD, but do not have the rear (under the seat) bracket and don't know what it looks like. If you have one please post a pic for me, and maybe I can find one. Thanks
