Butt Butler Changes
ColoNavy replied to Rick Butler's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Another satisfied customer of Rick Butler's work here. I did a 350 mile ride after getting the seat back...stopped at 125 miles then about the 255 mile mark for gas and about 10 minutes. After the ride that day I felt almost no discomfort. Used to be my rear end was good for 75-100 miles max. -
I have been a religious user of SeaFoam for 5-6 years and have found it to be a good product however recently two friends used some BG 44K. It worked on carbs where SeaFoam didn't. Unfortunately they had to order it as the local stores in Colorado Springs don't carry it.

Normal for my 2000 RSV. I did find however that using a synthetic oil such as Mobil 1 or Amsoil reduces the tick time.

Try a DayLong seat. I have never heard anything but the best about the Daylong seat. In fact the words I have heard is "like a recliner". With the back seat redone, the price is a little less than a Corbin. The biggest problem with Daylong is that it uses the same seat pan so you have to take the seat off and mail it, therein losing the use of the bike for 2-3 weeks. http://www.day-long.com

Nolan 102. Can't say how much I enjoy the flip face with the sun visor. It's latch for the flip is especially strong and I like the chin strap mechanism. After trying several full face and flip face my wife agree and bought one as well.

------------------------------------ Kite Squid, what brand of gear ol has Molybdenum Disulphide in it? I couldn't locate any this summer when I was looking! Thanks

I have used both Rotella Syn and Amsoil. Rotella Syn is a good product but Amsoil seems to be slightly quieter and smoother in the very hot or very cold operating environments. I change oil about every 4-5000 miles.

Gas stabilizer of sea foam?
ColoNavy replied to Maritimer's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I use both Sea Foam and StaBil. The other thing I have learned is to keep the gas tank FULL during storage. A full gas tank keeps condensation to a minimum. Sea Foam does a great job of keeping varnish our of the carbs.- 16 replies

Or just put a piece from a two by four and a magazine under the kickstand until the bike is just a couple of degrees shy of straight up (So it doesn't fall to the other side?!). Look for the oil in the sight glass to be half-way up.

Time for new tires. I need some advice.
ColoNavy replied to Midnight's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have the Venoms with about 5,000 miles on them. Barely any sign of wear. The one recommendation I have is to downsize your front tire by one size to:130x90x16. The maneuverability is significantly improved at slower speeds. SW Moto provides great service, fast shipping and excellent value. -
F4Customs Windshield
ColoNavy replied to Freebird's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Did F5 give you an estimated price for the 19.5" model? How does that compare to other, i.e, CLearview, windshields???? THanks for researching the F5. -
It started with a minor intermittent rubbing sound and a clicking noise when I back the bike out of the garage. BTW, mine is a 2000 RSV MM with 13000 miles. I took it to the dealer told him to grease the splines. He did and said the rear brakes were shot so he replaced those. Cost = $175. it was quiet and then I took the bike out on a 400 mile run and the rubbing noise was back only worse. Started to sound like metal on metal, very loud and constant rubbing sound. I changed the rear drive oil but it actually seemed worse. I rushed the bike in again for repairs. This time I told them I wanted everything possible in the rear greased including the drive shaft. Got the bike back and it has been really quiet ever since (700 miles). Cost = $75 but they would tell me everything that was greased or actions taken with the rear wheel off. Bottom line is I don't know if it was all the grease or if it was the brakes not installed correctly or the rear wheel washer talked about above was installed backwards, but the bike runs quiet so I guess I should shut up too!

Check out Alaskaleather.com. They sell seconds and their seconds are better than most first qualities from other dealers.- 27 replies

I went to their web site but the links aren't working for some reason. How hard is it to install?
