  1. My friend owned a 86 when he rode a 96, he said it didn't have any guts. Could Yamaha have removed balancer in 97 for cheap h.p., balancers use up 5-8 h.p. Has anyone ridden a 96 and 97??
  2. Check with Race-Tech, i think they sell lowering front end kit for 1st gens. lowers 1' to 1.5'.
  3. Heat deflectors for your riding pleasure.
  4. Markland sold a cruise control unit ( automotive type ), that picked up the signal off the rear rotor with magnets spaced around it. The signal counter had a bracket on the swingarm and was spaced to pick up a signal from the magnets. The control panel was velcro mounted on the handle bar area. I owned two bikes with the units mounted and it worked very well.
  5. Heat the assembly with a propane torch and gently tap the inner out. If there's no sucess, again with the torch and a wax candle let the melting wax seep as a lubricant.
  6. All carb adj should be made after warm up and fan comes on. Cold idle speed no concern because of choke useage.
  7. My 87 has 79K, i'm 3rd owner for second time. No problems, has VMAX rear in it. ;={}
  8. I am very old school, when testing to see if cylinder is firing i use water sprayer thingy. Warm engine up 2k rpms until fan comes on, let idle for couple mins. Then spray each pipe at head and watch for steam and compare cylinders. Next test is at 3k, hold rpms there and check and compare steam pattern.
  9. There are numbers stamped on the body of switches a key can be made from.
  10. I have found bad cranks in Vmax s, so if your going to buy that one with a noise and haven't looked inside yet buy it with a bad crank price.
  11. 1. check carb linkage for opening all the way 2. carb diaphrams 3. fuel filter 4. fuel pump for volume 5. loose or clogged main jet (s). I had a 900 Kaw with a stone in main jet, it looked like a gas bubble was a clear stone.
  12. Parts Unlimited carries Suomy 3xl and AFX 3 & 4xl full face helmets. Never expect a helmet to protect you, it was you that bought it. Don't waste your life testing some thing you didn't make.
  13. Put on centerstand, ckeck for cracked or bent rotor using something straight. Make sure brake hardware is all there and caliper is centered over rotor.
  14. A sleeper motor to me means - surprised by the performance of motor in a vehicle thought to be in another catagory. :cool10:
  15. On your fork seals repair, pull the forks off the bike make a work area so you can look at every part to see what needs to be replaced. Roll your forks to see if they're not bent and not pitted in the seal area. I really don't like the Leak Proof seals, check with an indy shop or dealer for others. When installing the seals i cover the top of the fork with wax paper or thin plastic bag to protect the sealing lips on the seals, along with lubing the inside of the seals and sliding the protector down the tube to the sealing area on the fork. Progressive springs have served well and saving that grand will make your chest stick out farther and the ride even better.
  16. I think front tire size has a lot to do with shaky feeling on dirt, ck tire pressure for the rubber feeling.
  17. That is called the emulsion tube, your main jet screws in the bottom of it. So pull the bowl and put the tube back in and make sure the main jet is tight.
  18. Because you ran your fuel low, i would change gas filter and in a well ventilated area pull the carbs vents off and see if any of the carbs are over flowing. Should you find any leaking, gently tap bowl with a plastic or wooden handle. If that cures the problem, while you're there blow thru each vent line to make sure they are open. If the tapping did not stop your flowing, probaly a little dirt stuck under needle valve. Try to save the original needle and seat, as the replacements aren't as good.
  19. What is the problem??
  20. Before you drill your box, take a small rubber hose tape it to the top of box leaving a small gap and than road test. Main jets and emulsion tubes are they clean??
  21. [quote name= I thought about hooking a puck or something to the "foot" of the side stand but would prefer it be a bit more elegant.[/quote] Before dismounting, why not let the air out of the rear shock??
  22. If i wanted long lasting tires, front Avon Venoms and rear Continental Conti-Tour. I like the white wall look and have a supply of Dunlop front 291 NW (old) and Dunlop rear 402 MU85 NW. How ever either combo will drag my drivers foot pegs.
  23. Sorry i miss understood, but why raise it??
  24. Are you saying the bike leans over more with the lowering kit than before you put the links on?? Did you have the same amount of air in the suspenson before you lowered the bike??
  25. The two best penetrating fluids i've used, Triflow which has teflon in it and a wax candle when heated flows thinner?? with heat that attacks rust..
