  1. I use the GL1500 88-UP type valve stem, which is rubber and bent for easier tire pressure checking. Having them facing the right side of bike with the kick stand down, easy access.
  2. When preparing a dry battery, fill battery let set for 15 mins and check acid level bring it to level on battery. Let cells absorb acid for aleast an hour before charging. Your charger may have read the surface charge and acted accordingly. Your other charger could possibly have cooked the battery. Load test the battery and read voltage.
  3. I have the Venture Line bumper lights on my 87 and i bought some mini wedge LED bulbs #2060-0006 from Drag Specialties $2.95 @. They project less light because of the angle they sit. So i bought new lens because of the color loss and that brighten things up some. LEDs are good if they are used in straight direction.
  4. Bought mirrors from Drag Specialties that are sold for H.D. fairings called Pork Chop # 0640-0191. They will mount using the screw above the speakers and drilling another hole using a bolt and nut. A pair list for $90.
  5. The 7 plug is a hotter range plug. Jetting is one reason to change, sometimes if running to rich a hotter plug might correct your performance and to lean a colder plug could be the answer. Always check air filter first as this might be the main problem.
  6. Thanks again Mark's is the one i was looking for. Also how can i find articles like that on this site??
  7. Looking to purchase exhaust chamber replacement system for 1st gen. Tried to find using this site, because it's been mention here before . I have 1/2 of a computer (webtv) so it's probably here.
  8. One is a piston seal and the other a dust seal for each caliper.
  9. I think the mod is for Max's with more compression, hence the larger bolts. Check your starter clutch for pimples on the outer edge, this should be smooth. Getting 50K out of a stock unit seems within limits, not knowing if this is a motor used for short runs and a lot of starts. Check starter brushes and comutater ( mght need a little dressing up) . Lube shaft and replace flywheel.
  10. Changing to all braided lines and delinking the brakes should help. In the front, running two lines from the master cyl. There are different brake pad material to choose from, depending on how you want the braking to be. Having floor boards on will limit your rear wheel adjustments and braking.
  11. I have a V Max rear in my 87 and like Big Shell said "it likes it". Gas mileage will decrease mainly because the FUN has BEGUN. I haven"t lose any top end, because it seems to have less problems pushing through the wind at higher speeds and it does it much quicker. The quirkness i had at 112-117 mph is not there now, before the rear change towing a cargo trailer ( Kompac Kamp ) 125 mph was no problem. These motors seem to be more affected by wind resitantace than a lot of other engines.
  12. Remove clutch handle and check brass bushing that pushes push rod into m/cyl for wear. This is bushing should be a perfect fit in the handle, if not replace. Honda, Kaw and Yam all use the same bushing. With m/cyl mounted on handle bar, put finger over line hole and bleed. Once you feel pressure there install bolt and with a helper gently clamp off brake hose approx 1 inch from hose banjo. Start bleeding by loosing banjo bolt and before clutch handle reaches handle bar tighten bolt and repeat this until you have full pressure with line still clamped. Once you have pressure release and reclamp line, do this until complete system is under pressure with clamp removed. While under pressure bleed slave cyl. Any brake fluid, gasoline and acid on painted areas should be flooded with water as a neutralizer.
  13. Follow the positive cable to the solenoid, fuse is there.
  14. Drag Specialties sell a 3 position adjustable pass foot rest assembly in the $150 range. People that have them like the fit and quality.
  15. Has anyone added a relay to ignition to keep coils with enough juice all the time?? With age wiring and controls are reducing power to coils.
  16. The K627 Dunlops don't do well on bridge grates. The F11 was the sold as the matching front tire and it shook on bridges also.
  17. Cutty

    I did it.

Two different worlds, live in both of them.
  18. What do you call a person that has no fear?? "An Ambulance"
  19. Has anyone tried adjusting the rear pedal height? Could the angle applying the brake have any effect on pressure causing the rear brake lockup? Is there any better control if the front brakes are used first and than add in the rear brakes?
  20. Makes more sense than a GPS on a motorcycle and a am/pm indicator on a factory motorcycle radio clock.
  21. That's a good price for the pads, everyone brakes differently. Most don't use fronts enough to equal ratio.
  22. What area of the bike are you not happy with?
  23. You might want to tu-tone it, using the color that's already on it. Flame, fade or marble it, lots of possibilties there.
  24. Selling prices vary because of location, time of year, accessories, condition and sellers position in life ( employment, divorce, etc. ). No two deals are the same.
