seat suggestions,please...
WilCruise replied to f6ryder's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Had the same problem on the 03 Royal Star Venture. It has the pillow seat which is supposed to be pretty comfortable, but I still got sore after 100-150 miles. Utopia backrest did the trick and I can go for hours now! -
Don't give up on the one you have yet though. Pour solvent in it and let it sit. Try a blast or 2 of air from a high poweredcompressor with the rubber blowing tip too (protect your eyes). Worst case you might be able to find some extra petcocks, cut out the existing pipes and bolt those on. I'll keep eyes peeld too.

Don't laugh Dan - The guy I got one of my parts bikes from had done exactly that. Based on those results I'd suggest you try something else!

Or this one: http://www.utpr.com/rsv.html Both are nice. If you're looking for something less than these you'll have to keep an eye on e-bay. They do turn up once in a while.

Rick, Yes, I checked Rick's kits @ buckeye. They look good, but I want to do a piece here and a piece there and I'm going to do some mods. Scotty, That's what I was looking for, Guess I have to do the individual fittegs etc. Anyone know if our banjos are 10mm or 12mm? I'm gueswsing 10 but not sure. Thanks

I've seen a few places that sell kits, but I'd like to get some stainless lines that aren't necessarily standard. Anyone know of a place that sells open stock of stainless lines of various sizes with banjo fittings (reasonably priced ideally) so I can make up my own set(s) or replace pieces as budget allows?

Have a set of Jardines on one of the 1st Gens. It's the one that doesn't run though. I'll be able to tell you if I like them by Spring if you can wait (Still a lot of other work to do before swapping pipes). They guy I bought it from said he loved 'em.

Thanks, I was considering the speedbleeders after I saw the other thread you responded to on the same topic. I gotta beleive there's a traditional way to bleed this though. How would the dealer do it if I asked them? The goo may have come with pads. Got it from the previous owner in what appeared to be a sealed Yamaha parts package (had part# sticker) with the seal kit.

OK I've got calipers and parts all over the place now! Have one set restored with existing parts and another with rebuilds. I've got two questions: 1) The seal rebuild kit came with a packet of pink goo. Is that lubricant or seal setter or what? 2) The set I've put back on is a rear & front linked combo on one of the '83s. I've bled the b'jeepers out of them (2 full bottles) - everything coming out is clean fluid on both sides, but they're still mushy as all get out! There's got to be some air stuck in there. How do I get it out??? I'm using a mighty vac and the bleeding is working OK. I saw another thread on the subject but I didn't see a clear solution. Any thoughts?? Thanks

Mine's a 3 speed electric (Toro) similar to the one in Buddy's link. It has a little insert that reduces the size of the nozzle for Really high speed. That's the way I use it to dry the bike. I'ts a good few years old, but I'd recommend it if you happen to find one with that feature.

2003 Midnight V Cruise Control/ Holiday Help
WilCruise replied to blackazz's topic in General Tech Talk
Hey Ron, Welcome aboard! Some good suggestions so far. Remember that a 2003 (good year, second best color made that year as The Terror will tell ya:rotf:) is still under warranty - especially if the problem happened after the dealer got his hands on it. If you think it's them and don't trust the mechanic(s) it's worth trying another dealer. -
Sent my carbtune order in last night. Thanks for the feedback.

Everyone seems to like the Morgan Carbtune here. Can someone explain why this is so good vs. other mercury / vacuum / carb synch tools? I need to do synchs, want to get something, but don't want to wait for the Morgan unless it's signifigantly better than other products I can get faster. Thanks

Have the same problem. Been thinking about putting some of that stuff... ahhh... what is it... Plastidip?? on it. It's stuff you can coat your tool handles with, Dries like a rubbery plastic coat. Yeah, I think it's Plastidip. You can get it in the paint section at the home improvement centers. I've used it for similar problems and it's worked well.

Advice? Switching to V-Max cams
WilCruise replied to BadPigg's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
No first hand experience, but I beleive there's a bit more than a cam swap required to get the performance boost you're looking for. Can't tell you what else, and it may be accounted for in your guy's estimate, but you're doing the right thing by cheking it out first. Sounds like it could be a cool mod. -
Full tank w/ Stabil or Seafoam run through carbs. Wash & wax - That'll help avoid rust or pitting if you don't have climate controlled storage.

Safety: Motorcycle Fatalities Are Increasing
WilCruise replied to Starpuller's topic in Safety and Education
I agree w/ Squid. I've seen some supporting info to the report Starpuller listed that says it's the fasted growing group of contributors to the increase in accidents. They say it's because many people get "back into riding" as they get older and assume they remember how to ride. They're on bigger bikes and don't re-train. I beleive this is true. I fall into that category, but I practiced my ass off when I got back on and then went to some training. Thought it would just be a refresher. It actually reminded me of a lot I forgot and gave me a few new perspectives as well. Practiced my ass off again. A few weeks back someone took the proverbial left in front of me. There was absolutely no time to react. Despite that - I was aware that it could occur and was able to stop quickly enough to avoid contact (did scrape up the engine guards though because the rear whell locked up before I was able to complete the stop and I tipped just before stopping). I would've hit him for sure if not for the training and practice.- 10 replies

I'm looking for tips on how to clean up the seat and the plastic on my '83. The Plastic: I saw Tnventurer's tip on mop & glow, but was wondering how to prep for it. There's old wax that's whitened and otherwise dull coating on the plastic. Any recommendations on something that can clean it up before I try the mop & glow? The Seat: It's in good shape structurally (original brown) but has different patches of crud on it and some sticky spots. Not sure if this is deterioration of the original finish or accumulated residues. Any suggestions on how to clean it up without damaging the seat cover? Thanks for any suggestions.

I agree that they're useful. We have the same deal here in Mass with getting your motorcycle endorsement after passing the class. It's good information and you get exposed to exercises that can be helpful. There are some areas that aren't covered enough IMHO, but what is covered is beneficial to anyone. Folks that ride without any training are taking a big risk. I would support making this training mandataory for getting an endorsement.
