pulling the trigger

DO IT FOR SURE! a few skills techniques are the most important safety feature of any bike, especially a big one. Try the "Ride Like a Pro" videos too. Good stuff! -
I have a Nuvi 350 and love it. Pros: Small and easy to carry / mount on different vehicles. MP3 Player - Directions interrupt music at the correct volume. No Hard Drive (won't shake apart) Great display, software, ability to speak any words, even custom entered. Cons: No Bluetooth if you want phone etc (available on 360) 2 GB SD card Max (can swap cards for more or 360 has 4GB max) Not Waterproof (Ziplock & Rubber band cure that when needed)

I agree as well. I think that's often a problem with guys coming off Harleys though. Coming from an FJ this should feel comfortable. The power is good, doesn't scream like a crotch rocket though. I can start, accelerate and pass at highway speeds while fully loaded, 2-up and pulling a trailer without need for more power to get me where I need to be. -
There are legal free music sites. The thing is they aren't the stuff you hear on the radio. They're made up pf independent (a.k.a. Indie) artists who post their work for free or for minimal fees. One of the bigger examples is podsafe music network. http://music.podshow.com/ This site is focused around independent music and podcasts (podcasts = recorded internet radio and tv shows). Poke around here and you can find a whole new world of stuff, especially if you try some of the podcasts.

I'm only 5'10 but a lot of it is legs. The Venture is more comfortable than any of the other tourers for me. Wings, Beemers and others (even my 1st gen when it had floorboards) I've tried are usually a little cramped for my legs. I'm sure that'd be even worse for a 6+ footer. The Venture is roomy and comfortable, even for larger riders. Most comfortable we've found for the Mrs too. She didn't even like riding before we got the RSV, now she's the one initiating trip planning!

I got a Garmin GPS (nuvi350) for much the same reason. It has a built in MP3 player and supports SD. It tops out at 2GB but that's been enough for a multi day trip so I'm really happy with it. The GPS interrupts the music when directions are needed and the volume is always correct. The 360 is pretty much the same but adds bluetooth and doubles the SD card capacity to 4GB. The bluetooth allows you to use your phone through the GPS. I don't really need that so much since I just got us a pair of Nolan helmets that have integrated phone connection in addition to the intercom interface. If I had it to do over I'd get the 360 though.

It's AWFUL!... Did I mention I'm from Boston?

The problem isn't the projects - have plenty of those. It's the time & space to do them. No garage, tried a tent with heater last winter - didn't go too well. Works been crazy last couple of months too. As far as stuff on the list: 2nd Gen: New rubber Bleed and shoes all around Bar Risers GPS mount 1st Gen: New rubber Bleed and shoes all around Some Randya-like side panel work Paint Mount trailer hitch GPS mount Strip Parts Bike Camper Trailer: Repair broken pole joints New rubber Paint That's more than I can cover in the cold before spring. I need to figure a way to get the 2nd gen done before Americade & Maint day.

Got mine at J&P 14.99 a pair Also saw this there recently. Haven't used it, but I'll try it next time I need one. It's universal and you only need one. Puts the one-way valve in the line you're bleeding with. A little exposure at the connection and threads of actual bleeder valve maybe, but other than that I would think it should work the same way. http://www.jpcycles.com/productgroup.aspx?GID=2A72B620-1D14-4463-A635-FCAF7CAB4B7F

Just picked up the new (to me) bike

Didn't see it in any of the other responses, but it may not be altitude at all. Some of these pop even with freshly synched carbs. Can be a symptom of the AIS system. Take a look at this thread: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=485&highlight=backfire -
Been so busy @ work I've missed a lot of the posts & updates lately. I was able to book a spot for the RV a few weeks ago though so the Mrs. & I will be there. Already looking forward to it!

Hey Fred, I work from home (when not traveling) but it was a position I evolved into after a few years working for a big company. As far as the ones advertised, I'd agree with the sentimate already stated and probably stay away from them. If you want to do something, find a source of unique products and resell them on e-bay. Example: Like to tinker? Buy old bikes locally off of Craigs list (under $1000) and part them out on e-bay. If you stick with popular models you can make reasonable money if it's something you enjoy. You can do similar things if you can fabricate, know someone who can, have a source for heavily discounted merchandise etc. That's the only one I know to work for sure. It still depends on finding a source of merchandise at a cost that is less than what you'd be able to sell for though. E-bay is a great marketing machine with lots of looks assuming you find soimething to sell that people want. Good luck bud.

I travel a lot so I get quite a few to kill time while waiting on runways etc.: Motorcycle Cruiser (Cruisers, domestic and metric) Road Runner (Touring) Road Bike (All Metric Street bikes) Motorcycle Classics (classics and restoration tips, domestic, Euro and Metric - fun to go down memory lane) Rider (Covers a lot of ground but not too deep on anything) The AMA Magazine that you get with a membership Sometimes I pick up a Cycle World or Motorcyclist if they cover a bike or event that hits home. I also peruse catalogs from places including: Whitehorse J&P JC Whitney Jirehcycles and a few others. Compiled a longer list including some on-line stuff a while back which you can find here: http://tourcycles.thewilsonworks.com/Links.html

Geeze, go away on business for a few days and come back to this! Bummer. Glad to hear you're both on the mend but rally sorry about the misfortune. Here's wishes for a quick recovery.

there are a few ways to go about it. You can get into plastic welders. Simpler to use a plastic adhesive. Many like Plastex. If you are trying to replace pins on panels, Black Owl occasionally scores some metal replacement pins that are great. Hit "search" above and type in "plastic repair" and check the thread with that name for more info.

It's as safe as you allow it to be. If you fiddle with it while underway you can certainly get into trouble. Yes, they're great to get just about anywhere. Only problems I've had is when there is new construction that I need to navigate that hasn't made the map updates yet (rare). Yes, pipe in through helmet. I also have an MP3 player on mine and play it via the Aux input as someone else suggested above. Works like a charm. If you really want distraction, get one with bluetooth. Then you can hook your phone up to it as well! Good luck!

Don't know if it was me you saw, but I had one. Loved it for the most part for it's versatility. It was a bit heavy for serious sporting though. The two range transmission was a bit of a novelty but came in handy a few times. I actually look at them from time to time on craigslist and e-Bay. If I found a clean one for short money I'd consider going for it again. I always thought it was one of the prettiest bikes - especially imports - that I ever saw.

We've actually hit this a couple of times before. I remembered responding to this question once (twice including pre-crash) but didn't see it on the other thread that was referenced. Found it here though if you want to see more responses in addition to what we get on this one: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1485&highlight=waterbuffalo

Just bumping this thread now that the bells have started to ring. I'm swapping one with Larry, but have another available for anyone still interested in a swap.

Somewhat related question: What (if anything) do you recommend coating gaskets with before sealing things back up?
