I just changed my spark plugs in preparation for my trip. San Jose, Mono Lake, Las vegas, Zion, Bryce Canyon, Monument Valley, Durango, and Santa Fe area. Im looking for advice on any additional interesting things to see around my route. My plan is to visit some puebles in New Mexico. This trip is the conclusion of my last years trip that had to be cut short. I also need need camping advice. I have chosen to make this a camp as much as possibe trip. I want to rough it as much as possible..i will do a KOA when i need a little more comfort. Thats if my back can take it. I have good backpacking gear with a good Thermarest mattress to sleep on. My coworkers think that im crazy doing this solo, but i see it as an adventure. Any thoughts or ideas would be great!

I am planning a solo camping trip from to New Mexico, Southern Colorado and Utah, and need advice on how to safely keep my supplies while away from my bike. I plan on doing some day hikes and leave my supplies strapped to my bike. How can i keep my supplies safe while away? I plan on keeping the most valuable supplies locked in my 3 boxes. Thanks for any advice, Al

i was hoping to use them it with the standard shifter. -
Is anyone using drivers floorboards? I see some on ebay and wondered if they'd work on non heel/toe shifter bike. How do they mount? Any Pics?

Thanks guys. i found a good parts bike here locally, so i am buying most of the parts for spares. i picked up all the plastics (fairing, sides and boxes) for $150. The carbs seem to be really clean as though they were gone through recently, i will be taking those for $40. i probably take the V/rectifier, and TCI.

I removed my Yics system months ago and capped the ports with rubber vaccuum caps that i got at an automotive store. I capped the inner Yics hoses (bolt and clamp) since i couldnt reach them and used a cap on the outer ports. Recently, i started getting the popping back and then the strong gas smell. After looking closely during a break on a ride, i noticed that one of my rubber caps had deteriorated to a point where it was just attached by a thin piece of rubber (huge vaccuum leak). I need to find good quality rubber caps. Any ideas? When my bike started popping and smelling .......i started thinking Yamaha Tenere again, but after finding out my problem is a little one, i am keeping my comfortable beast. Would this type of leak be enough to cause the light popping on decel or should i look elsewhere as well. I did synch my carbs before my cross country trip. Is it time again?

Never leave home without it?
alvald83 replied to Peder_y2k's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
When i did my cross country(6000 mile) road trip, i took a few extra parts as you plan on taking, but never needed them. I took a TCI, rectifier regulator and an extra ignition coil but never needed them. What i did need was my Reda gas can, which fits perfectly in our saddle bags. I ran out of gas in Nevada and Colorado. One of the problems that i have with my guage is that it isn't very accurate. I use my trip odometer to gauge my gas stops, but even then i ran out twice. The one gallon gas can was enough to get me to a gas station. In Texas, the heavy winds caused one of my side covers to blow out of its mount, breaking the tabs. Zip ties helped to keep it in place for the remainder of the trip. An assortment of different length Bungy cords to help secure diffent things was helpful since my load seem to constantly change based on the weather...heavy jacket, light jacket, rain gear...it was easier just to strap them on the passenger seat. -
Perfect video! Were your tack welds with the hobby tool just to keep the pieces together? Most of my cracks are just hairline cracks that keep creeping. How would you handle those? BTW, Thanks again for the great video.

This gun allows you to adjust the temp and is used with plastic rods that you feed in like the glue gun sticks. The plastic rod pack comes with different types of plastic rods (ABS,PVC, and PC PP). I have a young coworker who gave me the idea because he bought the cheap Harbor Freight version to work on his car. I bought this and told him that he could use it to figure it out for me. When i get it back i will practice on some extra body parts that i have.

Gauge cluster lens fix?
alvald83 replied to alvald83's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Well, here was my thought. I can have some clear plastic discs made to match the original lenses from the local plastics business. Then, using a side cutting dremel blade, carefully cut the original lens out and adjust the cut out with a half round file. Glue them in with some type of clear glue. I do have a spare unit to practice on. -
My speedo and rpm gauge lenses are hazy and there is a crack in the rpm gauge. Is there a way to replace the clear plastic lenses without replacing the whole gauge unit?
