Carbs dripping fuel
CaptainJoe replied to Scooter Jim's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
After you apply a strong dose of seafoam and it has been sitting in the carbs for at least 24 hrs. Turn the fuel pumps on but don't start. Tap the side of the carb in question with the plastic portion of a large screwdriver...That should dislodge crud under needle valve or stuck float... -
Skids Ordeal
CaptainJoe replied to Yammer Dan's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
Penny and I will pray for you Jeff, your a pretty tough old bird but it won't hurt.... Your friends and family will also be in our prayers as sometimes it's harder on them than the one that's actually sick. Get well soon... 41 days to spring! -
Don't worry about it Dan. Back in high school a couple of my friends turned my petcock off on my 175 yamaha Enduro. I got clear out to interstate "81" and it took me 15 -20 min to figure it out. You see, I never turned mine off, so, i didn't even consider the possibility..

If you parked it 2 months ago with 87 ethanol gas in it, it's not even close that octane now... dump it out and get some fresh stuff If your going to ride it infrequently, better to use recreational fuel in her... IMHO To start on a cold engine: open petcock, full choke, crank till it starts, DO NOT TOUCH THROTTLE! after about a minute, close choke and rev to your hearts content I always turn pet cock off at the end of the day and place in reserve position when starting.

Out of respect for the mighty Yamaha Venture...
CaptainJoe replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
Jeff, It's only a garage queen because Dan wants her to be... He's sadistic that way... A more fitting title for her would be Flagship , as in "the Flagship of VentureRider.org" -

Reliable Out of all the bikes in his garage, it's the only one that's guaranteed to run... -
Hey Victor, Might want to throw it up on the calendar. If people can see who is signing up, it will stimulate the folk around here, get the sleep out of their eyes, and, awaken them from their slumber. eh?

Eck, I'm planning on heading that way also, but believe the weather will be ok. http://www.weather.com/weather/wxclimatology/monthly/graph/USID0146 Also believe we'll encounter rain at some point so will probably leave a day early,"just in case". Remember in the 2nd and 3rd weeks of July 2011 "Cody INT.", the temps were uncomfortably HOT! Over 100...

Very good news indeed! -
That looks like a good one to have. I'm planning on going out west this year across the Rocky Mountains, spending a lot of time exploring. Normally at the start of the day, I put my rain gear on for the wind and chill protection as they were enough until it warmed up around mid morning. That being said, this trip is going to see me in high elevations "all day long." If your extremities or core gets cold, it's a miserable ride.

I hope so but have a couple of options if it doesn't. Have been getting a lot of tips on that subject and the one steadfast tip was buy and install a digital volt meter and keep an eye on it. Seems heated clothing is resource hogs... Reduce electrical outlay by replacing all my OEM lights with LED's. As you mentioned: turning down controller while idiling or at low Rpms Buy a new higher output stator... Waiting for my glove liners to get here so I can do a test run. err... after this snow melts off the road in front of my garage.

I'm in the same boat as far as hairs concerned...LOL What's your balaclava made of? there's a huge variety... the fleece neoprene combo is the warmest I've found as there's a small area in front of your moth that is domed outward with small holes that keep the heat from your breath in. The other thing I wear is my fleece lined leather Dickie. It will keep the bottom of your jaw and neck very warm. It also helps keep the air coming up from under the helmet: http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/261018255291?lpid=82

Hey Capt-D, balaclava face mask... I had to buy one while skiing at Killington VT, a few years back. It was -5 deg. with 25 knot winds. So cold out that any exposed skin felt like someone was trying to snuff out a cigarette on your skin... It's a fleece bottom and back, with the neoprene front construction. It has a oval shaped opening over eyes for goggles, a nose slit and 20 or so small holes over mouth. Wear it under an Arai full face and have never got cold yet... Probably just jinxed myself... LOL

"Who is your favorite candidate for the NEXT election?" Don't know yet. Normally vote for the person closest to the center, that is demonstrably willing and able, to work with both sides. Sent the article in question to: foxnewstips@foxnews.com

Suppose to be a "peaceful" march. Although I can see where a few hot heads could possibly ignite something, believe no politician in their right mind, would want a repeat of Kent State. "Long before things get that ugly it would be really neat to see some of these great leaders get together and set-up a monitoring website that monitors our State and Federal Governments (piece of cake after ObamaCare).. A place where all the bills our REPRESENTATIVES are voting on are posted, we the people would go and vote on the same issues as our politicians are voting on - with an interaction area so they can explain why they didnt vote with "we the people" on any given issue.. Then, at election time, we can vote em out peacefully... Won't work, our gov. is a Democratic Republic for a reason... democracies collapse under their own weight as people would naturally want everything they could get from their gov. I personally think term limits need to be enacted, lobbying should be outlawed (politicians should be lobbying us), the IRS should be done away with (single tier tax, its the computer age,, come on), Voting should be a requirement for maintaining citizenship, all should serve in the Military and get to keep their guns when discharged honorably!! Could prove to be an interesting year.. Agree with that and would add : 1. Gov. only do things that we the people cannot do for ourselves 2. No more lawyers elected to office... 3. Small portion of our tax dollars to be used in elections (distributed equally between both parties). No donations allowed
