Skids Ordeal
CaptainJoe replied to Yammer Dan's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
Prayers up for the Warden and Skid. Little concerned about Skid's reasoning /judgement.... a Harley in his garage? Oh wait, forget that, this is the same guy that likes to go 85 mph while wearing flip flops and shorts on a bike... Just kidding bud Get well soon! -
Prayers up Buddy, Hope they figure it out soon.

So much for the "lasts up to 4 hours speil"? lol Do you have the phase packs or the water based? If phase based, how long do they take to refreeze in icewater.

Has anyone here tried these? http://www.polarproducts.com/polarshop/pc/Military-Phase-Change-Evaporative-Cooling-Vest-33p169.htm I'm going on two trips this summer, with temps projected to be in the 90's I would like to make it as comfortable a possible (riding a motorcycle to and from)... without breaking the bank (Veskimo type cooling systems are out) Polar products look like they might just be what I could use as i always have a cooler and ice on hand.

Thinking I'll just use the hitch coupler that came with the bunkhouse. I'm not an aggressive rider so it's doubtful I will ever get past Yamaha's 36 deg limit? Got me thinking though, if I layed the bike down wouldn't want it to twist frame on the bike.(like mike said) Thanks guys...

1. At low speeds (below 5mph) you will be acutely aware of the trailer especially on rough roads. 2. Potholes will tend to pull on the bike. 3. You will have to make wider turns as the trailer is wider than the bike. Be careful not to hit a curb... 4. Longer distances for braking(my bunkhouse is over 400 lbs. In twisties... go slower. If you have to apply brakes in a sharp turn your trailer is going to want to go straight and "possibly" wash the rear tire out. I would never do the Dragon aggressively with a trailer on back. That would be asking for trouble IMHO. I would however do the Dragon with a trailer at a speed I felt comfortable with. Flyingfool - Made me aware of the differences when pulling a trailer with a bike. Thanks Jeff!

Only time I ever felt the trailer at highway speeds was when I first bought it. Jeff (flyinfool) followed me for a couple miles and the trailer started swaying above 65... checked hubs(they were cool to the touch) so I continued on, kept her around 60. Drove 20 miles and checked into motel. In the morning it occurred to me to check the air pressure. Sure enough 20 lbs in one 39 lbs in the other. Made both 40 psi and took up to 80 mph no swaying. repack bearings on trailer, check tires for blems, spin to check trueness and insure proper air pressure. Then get someone to follow you as they will be able to see what's happening better than you. I'm thinking the the hinges in the saddlebags loosening were a coincidence?

Kirby, I suggest you ride a bike that has each installed. Experience IS the best teacher... grasshopper... From what others have said, yamaha lowers do not put air up into the chest area. The bakers definitely do. http://www.bakerbuilt.com/bbairwings/page48aa.html Easily Adjusted to Direct Cooler Air to Rider and Co-Rider in Hot Weather. Does an Impressive Job of Blowing Away Engine Heat in Hot Weather. Keeps You Warmer and Dryer in Cold and Wet Weather by Deflecting Cold Air Flow Away from Rider and Co-Rider. Reduces Wind and Rain on Legs, Knees and Thighs. __________________________________________________________________________ If your feet are getting hot , try these: https://www.yamahapartsandaccessories.com/product/details/tinted-lower-wind-vents?b=Star+Motorcycle&d=12|12 "The Tinted Lower Wind Vents feature a unique styling that complements the fairing lowers. Directs airflow into the footwell area when open."-

You guys are hard to please, sheese! Here's better pics first shows mounting area second full open third full closed Can't say enough about how these things control air... warm in the winter, cool in the summer(without buffeting)

I've got the Kuryakin crash bar mounted pegs as well. the bolts long enough to slip the air wings onto it! Will send a pic tomorrow morning...

Jay, Don't pay any attention to Dan, He doesn't have a driveway, just ask Kevin...(AKRefugee)

Well then, Yes you might get air born long enough to do a barrel roll but I doubt you'd land back on your wheels. Yet another case where i wouldn't want to find out..LoL

Eck, That's exactly how I feel about Marie and Harold(deceased). Thanks for the kind words. Dacheedah, Probably going to just buy prepared hard shelled crabs. Don't want to fool with out of state licenses . Although that would make for an excellent ride to the Ocean! Dan, Sure hope they finally find out whats going on. Penny and I will be praying they do...

Eck, Baggershield and Baker Airwings. Being hot natured myself found these to be a huge improvement. Another thing to do is wear a White, moisture wicking, long sleeve shirt. They even sell them in dress shirts now. DO NOT wear black! I literally roast in anything other than white. Also, like my light colored blue jeans. Thinking about getting some diamond gussets? The key is to get the flow of air going, and keeping the direct sun off of your skin....

Don't think anyone was questioning your riding ability.. judgment perhaps? When one gets a "my cup is full atitude" thats where the problems start. You started off by riping the very bike this site is named for. You didn't think that would ruffle some feathers? Regardless, (although this would be ill advised) you could hook the same trailer up to the Goldwing and duplicate that "wailing into a corner on CR 26 in the Ohio Wayne Forest" move and let us know how it turns out. Just for ****s and giggles, I did some measuring on the max lean angle allowable on my Bunkhouse trailer. 34 degrees and the shank under the ball will contact the side of the ball coupler. If you try to lean your bike more than 34 degrees with a trailer ???? who knows what will happen.... I personally don't want to find out... Perhaps a Uni-go trailer would be a better fit for you?
