I've got about 2000 mile on the bike now and went from 42 mpg to about 37 mpg. It will also stall at a red light after about a minute of sitting idle. It does this not as I'm slipping the clutch to pull out, but as I twist on the throttle to rev it up before pulling out. Will try some Seafoam as soon as I get back from dealers, but I really don't want them messing with my carbs... Remember reading somewere about syncing carbs and needing a tool? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've changed my mind. At night when the dash lights up the speedo is beautiful! I really Like it!

low volume on headset none thru speakers?
CaptainJoe replied to CaptainJoe's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
I tore entire bike apart, passenger seat, drivers seat, gas tank, fuse areas, fairing, controller. Only thing I didn't tear apart was the radio(afraid they'd blame me if they saw it was open) I cleaned all ground points(that I could find). 2 are on the frame: one under right passanger footpeg (CB ground) One under gas tank on right hand side (radio ground) 1 on engine: right behind engine oil cap. Hope your right about just installing radio. He, however was talking like he was going to send it somewhere? -
Only takes a few idiots to ruin it for everyone... I've always said there are one half of one percent of people that are just rotten to the core. Bring back capitol punnishment

low volume on headset none thru speakers?
CaptainJoe replied to CaptainJoe's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
I don't think my bike has this feature, unfortunately for me... wish it did... It has squelch chanel and volume on Cb button. The only other control for CB on handlebars is the talk button, which works as TX appears on screen, when either is depessed at Handlebar or passenger talk button. I have this really bad feeling they are gonna keep my bike half the summer... -

Rear air shock leak

Guess I didn't consider that:detective: Well I better buy a center stand then... Thanks! -
After waiting 2 months for my OEM Yamaha chrome rails, they came and boy, they were purdy. Trying to put them on was not. The ends of both, where they tapped, were wallowed out. not enough thread to get bolt started. Spent greater part of the the day trying to find a 5mm bolt 2 5/8" long(or millimeter equilivent. Finally got frustrated with the whole ordeal and bought (2)-5 mm nuts and mig welded them to the ends of the rails. Screwed BOLT with nut attached into end of rail first to ensure proper alignment. But I wasn't done yet, I had to drill holes in chrome fittings 1/16th bigger to line up with their origional threads in all 4 end caps and chamfer. Good thing I had a pair of soft jaws for my vise. I dont mind paying for quality but these Yamaha rails are anything but. Even the 45 degree angles? were serrated like someone machined them with a broken end mill. And NO, I was not about to send them back after waiting 2 MONTHS for them.

Rear air shock leak
CaptainJoe replied to CaptainJoe's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Took bike to dealer today. No volume on radio, no air in rear shock, 2 " crack in windshield where left center bolt holds it on. If the windshield isn't under warranty will have to drill a hole at end of crack so it dosent get any worse.... Old Pilots trick on plastic parts on wings... -
Big problem, last week my radio and cb quit working. To be more specific my speakers and headset will play a radio station but at a volume one can barely hear(must turn bike off). 1. All Controls work on handle bar control(just not loud enough) Must be on 30 to barely hear. 2. Audio fuses check out good. 3. Cleaned and dielectric greased ALL connections under fairing including radio ground and the red, yellow, white and blue booted connections. 4. Took controler apart and dielectric greased connection and bypassed volume control knob with no change in volume Question... Where in the heck is the amplifier on this bike? I have yet to find one.

Center stands off of older Yamahas will work with a slight mod (bracket). I need one also. Don't think it's gonna lift both tires off of the ground though. I need so oil level can be checked with only one person.

I'm home safe but nursing a sore foot. Went to pull over into the right hand lane from a dead stop at a stoplight , when all of a sudden the car behind me in the right hand lane that was taking the right hand entrance to rt 68, CHANGED HIS MIND at about 30 mph. I turned hard to the left to keep from being rear-ended and did a slight left foot toe touch to keep my balance. Well, that wasn't good, my toe and heel went under the crash bar folded the foot and after the pain let up went numb. I figured I broke it so I just rode on to Sandyville about 180 miles. Figured they could fix it as well as the Cumberland Drs. Anyway, when I got home there was just slight swelling and minimum pain. If that crash bar had been one inch lower or my foot one inch longer I would have definately broke it(8 1/2 shoes). Its a little sore now but not broke. Conclusion... 1. I will before making any lane changes, make sure i am at the same speed as those coming up behind me regardless if they are two lanes over. 2. I''m keeping my feet on the floorboards! (if I have to glue em there) It was 36 yesterday morning in Caledonia,Pa. It was 48 in Cumberland, Md when I left yesterday at 2 pm(probably why my foot didn't swell to bad)

My recommended RSV mods
CaptainJoe replied to First_N_Last's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Funny you should just happen to list as you first mod: clean & weatherproof the radio/CB cable connectors I've got 1,200 mi. on my 2007 RSMV and you can barely hear the radio on the speakers and headsets with the volume set on 30. Figures it would do this, right before a road trip. Will have to tear dash apart to do just as you suggested. Oh well, I've got an Ipod and some ear buds I can use in the meantime. I'm off to Va at 10 am. WooooooooHoo! -
You got that right... ScooterBob, Sure would be nice to be able to say "no thanks we don't need your oil anymore". It's not worth one drop of our young men and womens blood. However no one is even remotely trying to get us off of this, even though, they have been damaging our economy since the early 70's and are about to drive us into an economical nightmare. Go figure... Oh, one other thought, Has anyone ever considered maybe Yamaha purposfully made our bikes run rich because they knew ethenol burns leaner and was being added? Just a thought...

After reading further on this topic have discovered ethanol itself is corrosive. However, Ethanols ability to attract water like a spong seems to be more of the problem. You see water is even more corrosive than ethanol. Modern vehicles SHOULD have been modified to compensate for these corrosive effects along with different gas additives. Remember back in the day when I flew, that I ALWAYS filled up the plane before putting her to bed. If you didn't, and there was 10% gas 90% airspace and it was say 90 degrees, warm air holds a lot of moisture. Guess what happened to the moisture when it dropped to 55 degrees at night? You got it liquid water added to your gas, which isn't good for any motor, much less one that is keeping your ass in the air... LOL. Conclusion... I will carry some sta-bil along on a long distance ride, as it gets rid of water and unvarnishes carbs and fuel system.
-
Just found this... Marine Formula STA-BIL® for use at every fill up in your boat, jet ski, or snowmobile to protect against the damaging effects of Ethanol.

I had a SNAPPER rototiller that was the rototiller form h**L. After the first couple of years I CONSTANTLY had to work on it to get it to start. I took it where I bought it and they replaced the carberator (my cost) .. Ed stated the additives they put in gasoline will eat a carberator alive. He also sells Sthil products. Said the Sthil oil has fuel stabilizer added to it, but to be on the safe side, I should put fuel stabilizer in the gasoilne can before I add the oil and fill it with gas. It starts every time now. Perhaps it is having an impact on our carbs....

Silly Question
CaptainJoe replied to Tarl's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I haven't looked at mine but some bikes have a little phillips head screw on the cap you must loosen. Will check tomorrow. -
Dan, Yup, that would be our boy Joe. Hey look at it this way, if you were govenor you'd get police escorts everytime you and your buddies went on a road trip, to protect you from the cagers... LOL

Comfort Cruise/Corbin Seat?
CaptainJoe replied to RSTDdog's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I've got the Mustang seat with pillion and drivers backrest. The top of the line seats are about the same quality. Mustang and Corbin. Although they are a step up from factory seating, I'm wondering... To have a thorougly comfortable 500+ mile ride per day, you need at least two of the three for your seat : AirHawke, Sheepskin and/or Beads. That way you can switch them at pit stops. I need to get the beads as I have the other two and am very happy with them.- 10 replies

If I were you, I'd start playing the Lottery my friend! Makes you wonder though if an air bag would have protected you more. Honda has them available on their top of the line goldwings. Perhaps Yamaha should follow suit? May you have a speedy recovery.

Yes, I would vote for Bill if he decided to run. We've all got a bit of racism in us. That means everyone, including myself. If its not the blacks, then its the Mexicans or the Japanese, Chinese or Tiawaneese etc... so on and so forth. Have you ever actually turned on your CB and listened to the truckers? Some of them are still fightin the civil war! Dang... Racism is alive and well wether one wants to admit it or not. Bill knows it and has lived it. He doesn't use that as a reason not to succeed though. Personal responsibility is what he asks for for. Take credit for what you do in this world wether its good or bad, and above all, don't blame someone else. I like that in a man... As for George Carlin, He use to be one of the funiest comedians I knew. That is of course before he resorted to being a foul mouth every other word. A real pity, such talent wasted...
