Might want to try some vitamin B6, Potasium, calcium and Gatorade G2. Wife is a 53 year old wood carver and was really getting to the point that she couldn't hold on to what she was carving because of stiffness, soreness and cramping. Although it will take 3-4 weeks before you notice a difference, its definately a cheap enough and it works... As with anything, run it past your MD to be on the safe side. I don't believe its carpal tunnel as your thumb, middle and index finger would fall asleep and sometimes get numb to the point of being painful. Mine occurs when riding a motorcycle(RM 250 Suzuki) or operating machinery that vibrates alot. Luckily I have yet to experience that on the RSMV. Good luck

My thoughts on the Experienced Rider Course
CaptainJoe replied to straycatt's topic in Watering Hole
Someone that has been riding for 42 years, Should have, in my humble opinion, a lot of experience and knowledge. That in itself is not surprising. So you only picked up one or two things. Well, that may just be enough to save you and your passenger one day. Just keep an open mind. I am 51 going on 52 and have been riding motorcycles since 14 and rode mini bikes for a couple of years before that. That equates to between 38 - 40 years plus experience. I'm still learning and infact ordered Ride like a Pro V, 2 months ago. I would recommend that video to anyone that rides a bike. Even with all that experience, a deer jumped up on to the side of the road and took the bike out from under me in about a milla-second. I knew he was going to hit me so I came down hard on the brakes locking both front and back for 12 feet and left up on brakes right before the 'side' impact. I was travelling at 45 mph, maybe bleed of 10 mph, before hitting the the pavement with my full face helmet and left rib cage, breaking 2 of my ribs right below the left collarbone. The reason I'm "sharing" this experience, is that I use to think I could ride my way out of just about anything. Now, I'm positive that I can't. The ER Doctors were amazed at what llittle damage I had and stated what saved me was my Alpinestar jacket, gloves, steeltoe boots and full face helmet. I slid 42 feet unconsious on my helmet visor. I'd hate to think what it would have looked like had I been wearing my half helmet like I normally do. Guess what? That half helmet is in the garbage can. Did I learn anything from that experience? You betcha. Had my jacket had armor in the chest of the jacket, I wouldnt even have broken ribs. I ordered a set for my wife and I that will be sewn in ASAP. -
I am also going to try to make it. A lot depends on the weather. Anyone else going thru or from WV?

My 2007 RSMV has a round power jack in left hand cowling aout 6 inches below left mirror. Don't think its ment for cigarrette lighter use.

Bike Crash, we both lost... the deer and I

Sounds like good advice to me. Lots of lights and Noise! When I do night landings over at Ravenswood airport I ALWASY BUZZ the runway first to scare them away. I don't know wether its the grass on either side of the runway or something else, but they sure DO like TO congreate... WORDS OF WISDOM.... Don't even think about landing there after 5-6pm without buzzing runway first, Ive seen more than one wreck between deer and airplanes and they are not only not purdy, they are unbeliveably expensive! Hummmmmm... Wolo air horn on the 650 "I like it"... MIGHT NEED ONE for THE CESSNA 150 THAT, OR, MAYBE SOME 50 CAL GUNS LIKE IS ON THE A10 WARTHOG so I can clear a path, mow the lawn..... -
Glad to hear your ok. I always assume that they aren't going to stop and I check twice, sometimes three times before I actually get into a new lane. Although this didn't help me out last week when a driver changed lanes from a entrance ramp to rt 68 E. at a bout 35 mph. he dang near got me. The penalties for running stop signs should be tripled. The big guy must have been looking out for you. Your shorts can always be washed:stickpoke:

Bike Crash, we both lost... the deer and I
CaptainJoe replied to CaptainJoe's topic in Lessons Learned
About the deer... hopefully the nice people that flagged down the cars, kept them from hitting me and put it of its misery used the meat. I really hate wasting anything. Mental note... Buy deer whistles for the bikes also! Thanks Randy... I will definately check those pants out! -
Bike Crash, we both lost... the deer and I

Thanks everyone. The hardest part is that I won't be able to do too much work the next couple of days, and I'm a workaholic... Oh well, they are calling for rain tomorrow and for the next couple of days after that. Will give me time to look for a new HJC Helmet'withflip down sun shades" and a set of mesh pants with reinforced knees to go with my Joe Rocket Jacket, for my wife and I. Would have been nice if there had been a chest protector built into my coat. Probablly wouldn't have broken my ribs. Have one for my dirt bike, a 2000 model RM 250 Susuki and I know for a fact that had I been wearing that, I would have walked away from that crash, with just a couple of brush burns... as it was, I was unconsious for a couple of minutes with blurry vision for about 20 minutes. Told my wife no more riding in WV after 5pm for us. There are just "WAY TO MANY DEER on the road after that for me". We got back from the hospital around 1:30 am ish last nite and there were 4 deer at various places in the road . Dr's were amazed at what little damage I had and kept saying that my gear saved me from a hosipital stay and some lengthy surgeries. I am going to throw my half helmet away... I hit so hard with my full face helmet that I blacked out. It's just not worth it to me now. My only hope is anyone reading this learns from my oversights and adjusts accordingly. I've been in some horrific crashes on dirt bikes in the past but have always walked away from them with the exception of torn ligaments in my right ankle and a spiral break on my right leg. I attribute that fact, to the protective gear I was using. -
My wife and I were on the way home from Elizabeth, Wv and I was on my 650 V-star as my 2007 rsmv is in the shop for radio, windshield, and rear shock. She was on her 250 V-Star about 60 yrds behind me. Thank god my Wife is ok with only a few scratches on her bike. Well a deer ran out in front of me as I was riding about 45mph at 7 pm. I locked both brakes hoping he could scoot across the road in front of me. No such luck. He hit me dead square at about the headlight and side and took the bike out from under me. broke the left floorboard and bent the handlebars. I think the handlebars got me as I was flying over bike as I now have two broken ribs on left side, over my heart. Hurts like the dickens. The bad thing is, I know for a fact that this will hurt for about 6 weeks. When I was taking martial arts classes I guess I got a little cocky with my instructor and he un-intentionally broke the last lower rib on my left side. Deer had to be shot as it busted it up pretty bad. lessonS learned: Always wear a full face helmet (if I can fighure out how to send a picture of it I will). Always wear a Joe Rocket or like breatheable and padded Motorcycle Jacket. Alway wear gloves (my half gloves protected all but outside of my right wrist). Always wear steel toe boots. Am going to look into vented / armored pants as I have road rash on both knees. I hit deer hit at 45 mph and I came away from it with just two brokeb ribs.... I thinK I'm very luck, The big guy must have been watching over my wife and I:2143:...

BURNT! clutch.. wow..
CaptainJoe replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
'Did you replace clutch springs as well? They, like anything else wearout. As far as roughing the steel plates up, you really don't and shouldn't have to do that since you stated you bought new ones. The only time I ever do that, is if the plates are glazed and then only with 220 grit followed by 400 grit wet or dry sandpaper. Although I can't tell what oil you used, be careful on your selection. Remember the the transmission and engine oil is one and the same on a bike so these are specially formulated oils. Can't use regular Pennsoil 10w40 unless of course you like changing clutches. I Cringe everytime I go to Yamaha dealer for oil and filter $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ as I change oil every 3000 miles religiously!!! I need to look them up on internet but you know I procastinate 'way to much'. -
My speedo is Tan/yellow/cream colored in the daytime, like old timey parchment paper. It turns a beautiful shade of turquoise at nite! Thats why I revised my initial feelings on the bikes speedo display. When the sun went down I was pleasantly Surprised! No, you are not seeking things...

Got this advice from fellow member "Herb in Texas" "Customer relations Department Yamaha Motor corparation 1-800-962-7926. Give the dealer a call and ask him to "do the right thing" If still unsatifactory call these folks. My dealer got the clutch covered under warenty @ 60K+ miles. No call to corporate required by me at all. I believe it all has to do with the dealer. They have an agreement with Yamaha to accept what they pay on warenty work. Which is below standard shop rates. I do believe however that when I read my warenty it did say somthing about the radio being under a different standard. Hope this helps" Maybe they could work it out that you just mail radio to Clairon in California. After all you did all the trouble shooting and proved it was the radio when you swapped it out and other one worked just fine. Perhaps they will point you to a dealer? It's worth a call...
-
Your radio is under warranty for 5 years. Mines in the shop now with a non functional radio. Ohio Service Manager stated Yamaha will only replace the radio, with a new radio, the first two years. Year 3,4 and 5 they send radio in to Clairon in California, and Clarion, decides wether to repair or replace unit. Maybe you could take off and send it? I'd ask dealer. Others here have stated they do not fix the radios but just exchange with new ones as they are non serviceable. Me thinks it all depends on what dealer your talkin to... at least that seems to be the way it is... Good luck, Hope it works out for you...

low volume on headset none thru speakers?
CaptainJoe replied to CaptainJoe's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
Well the service manage called. Seemed to be in a better frame of mind. Told me windshield would be replaced free of charge and if I wanted I could take bike home with radio without being charged and to drop it off when I wanted the radio taken out to be repaired at no charge. Told him why not take radio and controller off now as they weren't doing me any good anyway and to call when he got them back. He was very agreeable to that. That way I can ride my bike to Florida for the launch. I have an Ipod and can listen to it with earbuds if I want music. He's also gonna look into rear airshock. Also stated I could have my clutch basket changed out to another type as I stated I could hear a whine in mine and it seemed to be getting louder although acceptable level currently. He said no problem but to pay attention to what speed its whining at(when it starts and stops). He said the new clutch basket doesn't eliminate whine but will merely allow it to whine at a different speed. So... If its not whining at the speed I normally ride .... probably would be best not to change it... So far so good... Hopefully this will get resolved soon. -
low volume on headset none thru speakers?
CaptainJoe replied to CaptainJoe's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
Thanks Freebird. Thats exactly what I was thinking. This is suppose to be Yamahas Flagship! The funny thing is, I have owned Yamahas all my life and have never had any problems with them, with the exception of a stator coil going bad on a 650 last year that had 24,000 miles on it. And I'd never complain about that. $160 later and about 4 hours of my time it was up and running, good as new! Hopefully we can work something out. Going without my bike for 4-6 weeks however, is unacceptable. -
Beautiful Job! I also like this bike in Gold, like Freebirds. I just hope you didn't void your warranty when you tore it apart to paint it...

low volume on headset none thru speakers?
CaptainJoe replied to CaptainJoe's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
Update on radio. At the dealership in Marrietta Ohio... Service manager called and said my warranty experies in March of 2013. However: New Radio replacement only occurs in first 2 years. Year 3,4 and 5 is Clarions option on to fix or replace radio. Bad thing is They have to ship it to California, wait for them to fix and then send back. Estimated 4 to 6 week turnaround time. Had already told manager I was leaving for the MAY 14 shuttle launch when I took bike in. Now he wants to charge me to put bike back together and open back up if I take bike with out the radio installed. (even though it only takes 10 minutes to get to the radio if you know what your doing) Plus... When I opened fairing to clean connections and apply die-electric grease ( so I didn't have to take it to a Yamaha shop 45 miles away) I found a crack in the windshield about 1 1/2 inches long where it was bolted on(not long enough to see from outside with chrome trim on). Must have cracked when the dealer origionally bolted it on. He's saying since I opened it up they aren't going to cover it. He said "Hey its 3 years old..." This bike had like 482 miles on it less than a month ago and he knows it, as he inspected it and put the registation in my name. Waiting to hear from him this morning. So.......... I guess we should just take our bike in for every little thing that goes wrong with it and get the dealer to fix it (under warranty) so we don't void something? It's a wonder they didn't say they aren't touching the radio since I opened up the fairing. At this point I'm pretty disappointed..... -
Saddlebag rail adjustment.
CaptainJoe replied to YamaDuck's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
UPDATE ON RAILS: Finally got mine. Factory rails and yes they were too high in the back outer corner. Just grabbed the corner with both hands and gave a firm push down. Worked perfect! No cracking of chrome. Just don't over do it, push a little at a time. They actually bend a LOT easier than I thought, hope they protect saddlebag in a laydown... -
Fuel mileage, stalls
CaptainJoe replied to CaptainJoe's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Many Thanks guys! Only thing left, is to order tach and meter. May purchase a tach I can permanetly mount. When I was at the Virginia M&E someone had 3 different guages where his cassette player use to be. One was battery, one was tach. Don't recall what other one was. Will either do it that way or put them on handlebars. Hopefully I will get my bike back soon so I can ride down and watch the launch. -
Fuel mileage, stalls
CaptainJoe replied to CaptainJoe's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
That doesn't sound to hard at all. If they are both equally acurate.... Do you happen to know where the best place to get the guage type? Thinking it would be more durable than liquid type??? -
Fuel mileage, stalls
CaptainJoe replied to CaptainJoe's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks, Whatever is more accurate I will learn to use. Like to do things myself as my dealer is 45 miles away. -
I actually got the bigger one for $45? Have a lot of motorcycle mower and tractor tires to change though. I also like to throw a piece of ply wood down between bead breaker and rim so my chrome / aluminum rims dont get scuffed. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=92961&xcamp=google&utm_source=googlebase&utm_medium=cpc&zmam=13262200&zmas=12&zmac=112&zmap=92961

Mines at the dealers right now for no audio. I'm guessing a bad or mis connected amplifier, but did not tear radio apart as was afraid it would void the warranty. Will let you know what they find out.

Harbor Freight sells bead breakers cheap. Also sells Motorcycles lifts... Watch for the sale ads:thumbsup2:
