  1. Where did the where do you ride 85 post go? was a couple days ago? From time to time... Certain posts seem to dissapear. If its because a member is flaming another member, send them a warning afterwich lock them out for a week. If they continue to do so shut them out completely. Not really that big of problem, however I would like to see the responces from others on this site, especially after this rash of our motorcycle brothers getting run down. OR.. Perhaps I am not using the search properly.
  2. Anything over 10 mph and they should sock it to ya. When I was in Florida earlier this year, I, as a general rule try to keep up with traffic. On the Florida turnpike you better be goin 30 mph over the posted speed. So that means you've got people on one side entering and exiting at or below the posted speed limit and people on the other side well above take off speed...perfect recipie for a disaster. Only hope I'm in a cage when it happens.
  3. I'd love to see a list of places to avoid made up, possibly a .pdf like our people willing to assist list. Now That just might get their attention!
  4. Sorry, I though this thread was about someone... er... I mean something else
  5. The simplest fix would be: CLR removes lime, calcium and RUST. Afterwards, Use a good wax and address problem areas regularly and problem solved.... That being said... "sometimes pipes rust from the inside out" specially on 4 cycle chrome motorcycle pipes. Back in the day we use to pour a little oil in them and roll it around coating the inside of the pipes, then lean them against the wall till they drain. They will smoke for a couple of miles but after that, you'll get quite a few years of service out of them... After all, I'll bet you've never seen a 2 cycle motorcycle pipe rust out now have you? I'd Better WATCH OUT now. The environmental police is gonna be all over this one... Hey "It wasn't Me!"
  6. Makes sense. The resonance traveled up the driveline shaft into the engine and the windshield acted as a sounding board... I've hear of stranger things happening in cars... Could have take rear wheel off to determine/eliminate rear end.
  7. Skydoc 17 , How long do your clutches last? That's not meant to be a smart ass question, but, I have always been told to run nothing but Yamaha lube in my bikes because the clutch is emmersed in the same oil as the engine case and as we all know they are two different formulated oils when in seperate cases. I have run nothing but Castrol GTX in my cars for years with excellent results but have been afraid to put in my bike because of the clutch and wine-ing problems associated with this bike.
  8. Its been awhile but I seem to remember when my bike approached the 3500 mile mark it started to wine between 45 and 55 mph. After I changed the oil and filter it did not come back. From what I have been reading on this forum I won't be experimenting with oils. Also... Yamaha service dealer told me I had one replacement on clutch basket but that it could make the whine worse... Just Glad the oil made a difference Ohhhhh... one more thing, on my 650 v-star, when I went to change the oil, the local yamaha shop was out of 20w40 so I used 10w30. THE DANG THING WINED UNTIL THE NEXT OIL CHANGE! OIL CAN DEFINATELY MAKE A DIFFERENCE. We need a a smilie with earmuffs!
  9. I'm probably in for that. Will be coming from Sandyville, WV... Thats up around my old skiing grounds...
  10. I very much like my Venture, but, in about 5 years I will be buying a new bike., and if Yamaha stays were it is currently and Honda keeps up with their progressive innovations, I will be buying a GW!
  11. "No contact, but in Tennessee you can be charged the same if you caused the crash, even with no contact." Thats how it should be in all the states. Who, in their right, mind is gonna hit 'anything' intentionally on a motorcycle???
  12. Mystery Solved!
  13. Prayers sent for all that were involved in this accident.
  14. A 'True' biker doesn't look to others for their opinions, or, look to see what kind of bike your riding', they just wave ...
  15. You'll be in Penny and My prayers. Its no fun when your eyes are hurt. I got a sliver of sewage pipe stuck in my right eye a couple of years back. Was standing and chipping away at some rock that was around it with a shovel when a shard came off and stuck me. Dr's were afraid I was going to loose the eye due to infection but many treatements later, I did not. Hope it works out for you as well.
  16. In a pinch you can roll a 8 x 11 piece of paper into a funnel... I've always changed my own oil and always will... You can get oil at any yamaha shop but the filter may not be in stock, so, keep one on hand in your saddlebag. I change my oil every 3000 miles and have been getting over 200,000 out of my cars even in the 70's. Don't believe there is a single more important thing you can do to your bike. Being a firm beliver in good things come out of every discussion I have upgraded my profile to assit others. When I signed up, I had no idea of what I was getting myself into, so, I did not offer any more info than the basics. However, this discussion has brought up a very important point, Our fellow riders will need help form time to time and it may just be you that is the one in need someday.
  17. I SECOND that! Y:missingtooth:our in for it now...
  18. Common sense... When I rode a bike, back in the day, we yeilded to licensed vehicles. Today, bike riders ride one foot from the center line and dare you to pass. Its all about common courtesy... A farmer on a tractor has the right of way also, but, the common sense to pull over to the side when he gets a string of cars behind him...
  19. Since its a side wall puncture with a smooth nail, you should pull the tire and check that there is no cord damage. If there is cord damage, get a new tire. If however, it went between the cords, patch it and/or tube it, but you still need to take the tire off to determine damage. To be totally honest though, I've always been told if there is sidewall damage of any kind, (cuts, punctures, bulges) to Replace the tire. Most places will not repair sidewall damage . Personally, I'd buy and install a new tire, as I've had flats on motorcycles before, and they're no fun on a straight away and downright terrifying on a curve.
  20. If you want to use it, make sure the tires aren't weather cracked and pull the wheels and wash bearings in diesel fuel, blow off with compressed air and repack(with wheel bearing grease). I've had a harbor freight for years and haul a SeaDoo RXP jet ski on it and have never had any problems. The RXP and Venture are about the same weight. Like mentioned above make sure the tires can handle the weight and it would be a plus to have a spare... also, it would be better to have the bike on the trailer straight, as i don't know what placing the weight on the extreeme outer edges will do.
  21. anyone have any plans for a hitch receiver to fit a 2007 MRSV? I will build my own as I have a mig welder and plenty of steel.
  22. 2nd gen. Believe it had NC plates. Lady on back had red hair with pigtail and a red shirt on gentleman had a whiteish beard.
  23. Purple? Venture 2up spotted 2 pm.tody, rt#64W outside Richmond Va. One of our members?
  24. Don't want to pull a trailer(yet) but would love to place a larger cooler, in the center and lower on my bike as they can be heavy, not to mention leaky," oh well I guess I did mention that huh?". Question(s) is, Where is the best place to buy a receiver and/or does anyone want to get rid of theirs? Do they come with wiring for turn signal, hazard, stop and "Backup" lights?
  25. Sounds llike a good time to me, count me in.
