I use the harbor freight MC changer with a half inch piece of plywood between the tire and changer so that it doesn't slide or scratch rim. While depressing lever spray wd40 and will go a lot easier. I've never balance my tires and have never had a problem. V7goose, Halls tire in fairplain WV will mount the tire for $10 but will not take off or put on bike... which is a Sweet deal... They also don't balance MC tires.

I also use the brakeaway on my 650 V-star midnight custom... Excellent product... ZERO problems! Had to as I have carpel tunnel in my right wrist(throttle hand).

So what do you think, did I get my money's worth out of these pads?
CaptainJoe replied to LilBeaver's topic in Watering Hole
Anything at or below 1/16"th bonded and I'm changing mine. I also use the non-metalic pads as they don't squeal or "distort" the rotor. Use to be you could get car and bike rotors turned, as from factory they were thick... Nowadays I wouldn't count on it... not only are some to thin to turn but you'll be hard pressed to even find someone to turn them in this throw away world... I only know of one person in this whole area that does it. -
Thanks guys... You have no idea of how happy that makes me. LOL

Thanks Russell

Tom you are more than welcome here any time. Your heading east after the rally?

Is there any way I can mark a thread so that it doesn't displayed anymore?

Thanks Tom... I was a little perturbed about something else and it spilled over here...

Is there a reason why MONEY isn't offered? You could split the winnings to operating expenses in any percentage you wanted... if you need $400 for the event, then anything over that would be paid out. If it's not illegal, that would be my preference, as that way, you could spend it on whatever you needed, wether it was on a particular "list" or not... Just food for thought... ___________ Far as I can tell searching the internet, giving cash is not against the law for a raffel, as long as you report the winnings "regardless of wether it's a trailer or cash" to our dear IRS. LOL... ____________ Dragonrider, any word yet on the money as a prize? Also noticed It wasn't in the international rally either? When I approached the organizers for that, they said they considered it and rejected it. I'm not trying to stirr something up, besides your ability to generate more funds for this rally. I quit buying gifts for the family long ago and they each get money so that they can buy what they want. Not what I think they want, as I'm not a good guesser... I don't usually participate in raffels as I don't want or need a trailer, laptop etc... On the other hand, money is the Universal Language

GL1800 vs RSV, initial observations
CaptainJoe replied to Midrsv's topic in Honda Goldwing Tech Talk
"I bought a 2010 Airbag equipped GL1800 for $24,100 and I love it. It has ABS and an Airbag, but it did come bunled with a XM radio (which I will never use) and a navigation system that is a PITA to use." Goldwing is the only other bike I would consider ... Wish they'd drop that xm radio and Nav system though, and knock $1500 off, as I wouldn't use either. It would be perfect for me as I have 29" inseam. If you get tired of her, let me know and we willl work out a trade...LOL -
Yammer Dan, "And it don't slow them down a bit!! Remember when you were young? A long time ago? And you thought you could do anything you wanted too?? Dead friends and friends in Jail might wake you up?? " __________________ ??????????????? Was meant for me? I had childhood friends that later started riding motorcyles that have either ended up in jail or died, because they got involved in illegal activities. They knew the consequences and were ok with it. So am I.

You know the more I read about this the more questions pop up... So, our motorcycle combat vets group is going out of their way to pacify outlaw groups. They are currently asking these groups permission to wear a combat vet patch with rockers on their back??? Sounds like we need to stop looking into militias in this country and start focusing on these outlaws. Perhaps we are. You know the old saying, keep your friends close and "your enemies closer"... They are actually helping Uncle Sam out by dispaying their affiliations... Bet the FBI and other law renforcement groups get a real chuckle out of that...

When you depress the slide from inside the top of the carb with your index finger they should all return at the same rate and not snap back fast. One of my diaphram/slides was diirty and was returning at a slower rate so I just tore them all off and cleaned. I cleaned with carb cleaner then lightly sprayed with silicone. It cleared up the problem I was having with the RPM's hanging.

"I really hope I don't run into the motorcycle cop situation also." Now that guy on Wild Hogs was even Scarier than the outlaw groups. LOL Seriously though, it is not worth you or your wifes life to make a stand when confronted by a outlaw group, or, a robber. Take the jacket off or hand them the wallet. It's just not worth it. In doing so, it would not be giving anyone respect, it would only be, lets just say, "In your best interest(s)". After I take my jacket off, and... I would, am I going to be friends with them? NO! After a robber robs me, am I gonna turn around and buddy up with him? NO! I reserve my respect for the fighting men and women in our armed forces and a few others of my choice. None of them are criminals...

Freebird, Is it possible for someone to read a private meassage and it still show up on my end as "unread" in the read date field, under unconfirmed private messages? This has happened to me on at least 3 occassions and I know the person read them. Also, is a "confirmed" private message the same as a "reply" in as far as a person sent a response back to your origional private message?

Resonable miles per hour on trip
CaptainJoe replied to Sylvester's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Riding single on a 650 vstar and with a Harley ultra classic and another Harley... Averaged 105 to 150 miles per tank full. (less milage per tank the further west I went) don't know if it was the changes in fuel or altitude or both... Yes, it was all interstate.... After close to two hrs riding we felt it was necessary for breaks. Luckily none of us were smokers. If you have smokers in your group... all bets are off, cause i never saw one that could go for more than an hour without a nicotine fix...LOL -
Resonable miles per hour on trip
CaptainJoe replied to Sylvester's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Averaged 50 mph going no more than 5mph over the posted speed limit from WV to Oregon and back. Stopped one hour for lunch and 15 min rest stop every 120 miles. Rule was stop at gas stations(so we could refuel and get coffee/tea). Started at 8 am stopped around 8pm. Averaged 500 miles a day give or take... With the above parameters it leaves NO TIME to stop and see anything.... So if your just trying to get somewhere and stay within the speed limit, without sightseeing 50 mph is do-able... -
Could be just following rules of their club. If they didn't follow rules wouldn't be able to exist. to threaten to beat or kill you is against the law. assult/battery/murder... I personally would not belong to any club whos rules knowingly broke the laws of this great country as that would place me outside the law. Or, for that fact, even hang around someone that did... So, in conclusion, I'm gonna have to pull a GIBVEL... LOL I'll stop there as anything else I have written or would write here, I fear, would push this over the line of a political discussion.

"Not all are criminal." The ones that would have you take off your vest or threaten to beat or kill you ARE... The 1%'s that are the law abiding folks are just like us fellow motorcycle riders. They just dislike the AMA. Too many rules... Not sure how many would be in this category... Would be interesting to find out...

Obviously a few here think I am championing the lifestyle of the 1%'ers....and they are WRONG. I took it for what it was worth, a warning not a championing of the lifestyle of people outside the law. Again many thnks boomer!
