Glad to hear she's ok. Thats the only thing that really matters! Like was said before the vehicle can be repaired/replaced. On I-77 at 2 of the bridges north bound between Charleston and Ripley water stands due to poor drainage. I've seen signs of wrecks over the years and have infact reported the area(s) to DOT. Seems they never get around to fixing it. In hindsight I should have put in writing. If this is a correctable problem I'd document and send it to your DOT. Might just save someone else...

Thanks Tazmocycle, I'll definately check that site out. I tore my carbs apart and cleaned. Put back together and the RPMs are hanging when reved. Idles perfectly... Believe the cables need some adjustment, and carbs synced, hence the service manual.

BigBoyinMS, Thanks, that link worked. I'm gonna have to break down an get a new computer as it took for ever to load pdf just to view it. I then saved a copy to my hard drive. Am gonna purchase a thumb drive and copy service manuals to it, so I can take on my trips, and MD's as I always carry my small Acer netbook. Thanks again Joe

Polishing the wheel makes sense to me. Years ago at Sunoco we used a 50/50 solution of dawn to water solution. I need to go to garage an find out what the name of that oring lube is for water and sewer pipe. I use to take a sledge and a 4x4 to drive pipe togeter. John from the water company saw me and asks why I did it that way. Then he proceeded to show me since the oring was lubed you just need to keep your foot on the shovel, inserting it into the ground, flush with end of pipe, about 2 inches, and pry back with smooth even pressure. It worked just about every time! If the rim is smooth as you can make it, and lubed it should seat easier. Has anyone every found out wht the actual size difference is between a rear venture rim and a voltswagon rim?

Thanks for the link Dingy. They must be having prolems with their site cause every service manual i clicked came up with a http 404 error. I sent them an email... When they fix it will be an impressive collection of service manuals for Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki and Polaris... They didn't have Harley, Honda or BMW? at least as far as I could tell. Thanks again!

In aviation that is called "scraping the deck." After dark, It's called "clearing a path" , "deer Run" or self preservation around here in WV. If you don't key the mic. until the lights are at max and buzz the runway after darkness falls, you will more than likely meet up with some of these four footed creatures... Those deer just love the grass along the runways. and they seem to congreate on the runway itself ??? Luckily they don't like to get buzzed... And... It's kinda fun, makes you wonder what it would be like with 50 cals. on wing mounts...

No vents ...was thinking about ordering one or two goldwing windshield vents.... and cutting a hole(s) in my stock winfdshield. They are about $55 if I remember correctly.

Trunk Rack

Don't know for a fact but I think its rated for 10 lbs..."using a Yamaha rack" I have heard of people putting +25 on it... although I don't have much success with plastic and cold weather... so I'm not going to push the limits.- 27 replies

Another way to shear a ball is to get rear eneded at any speed. The faster your going the more imperative that you have it hooked up properly. Imagine someone rear ending you at 35-40 and the tounge dropping and digging into the road........ It's not going to be PURDY...

Either on my right knee or slinging or clinching my hand to get the feeling back into it (carpal tunnel).

I wear a full face.... I'm Smaaaaaaaart... LOL But that brings up yet another idea.... A quick detach screen shield.... same as quick detach windshield but a aluminum framed wind screen in same shape.... Hummmmmmmmmm.... i smell something burning... maybe my brains overheating....LOL

Just my two cents... Whenever you chain your trailer to any vehicle.... You cross the chains between ball and receiver and twist chains to until they will still allow for a full turn but the slack is taken up. Then you connect to permanent points on each side of your reciever. The theory here is, if the tongue of your trailer drops for any reason, it shouldn't be able to reach the road and start plowing into the road and flipping the trailer (and possibly you). It should be suspended above the road until you can safely stop. At least thats what I've been told by a wreck examiner in PA.

Trunk Rack
CaptainJoe replied to frmarksiegelhotmail.com's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The acronym ABS is the key word here. No loctite. It melts ABS! No excessive weight on (4) points, better to have it spread out over (2) 7 x 1 inch areas. So, I'd stick with the Yamaha rack. Even then I'd watch how much weight you put on it as that trunk and lid is expensive... believe me you do not want to have to replace it...- 27 replies

Does anyone make one? Have been looking but to no avail. Seems to me it wouldn't be that hard to do: An aluminum channel same shape and thickness as the bottom of our stock windshield about 3 inches wide with receiver lugs in a channel on top side. top piece would sandwich bottom of stock windshield on top side and fit into reciever on bottom side with a quick release. Could also make a interlocking finger pattern between the two with one set screw. Hardest part would be getting the perfect bend. Love my windshield on the cooler days and interstate riding, but when it gets to 90 deg... At slower speeds it sure would be nice to take it off ... and possibly put it in fabricated shell that attaches to your luggage rack to protect it... Help I need more Wind! er... let me rephrase that... Help I need more AIR... LOL

Cruise Control Not Working
CaptainJoe replied to IdahoRon's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Just a passing thought but you do know your bike has to be in fourth going at least 45 mph or fifth going ? mph for the cruise control to work... It will not engage in every gear. -

Cruise Control Not Working
CaptainJoe replied to IdahoRon's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
After working on everything BUT my bike till 1 pm today I said enough! Ask the wife if she wanted to go for a ride and she said yeah but she needed to practice. So, we went to the school parking lot and I went over the motorcycle test exercises with her. In about 20 -30 min she was ready to go down the road... I put my jacket back on and looked at the space between the clutch lever perch and the control panel on left grip and to my surprise I hadn't plugged the 4-5 wire white plug into the bottom of the clutch perch. Well... needless to say now my cruise control is working perfectly... Check and double check those connections ! Make sure they snap in and don't pull out. -
Cruise Control Not Working
CaptainJoe replied to IdahoRon's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I thinks that's whats wrong with mine also . Either the switches on the levers or the cable is to tight. I got this problem shortly after lowering my my bike one inch in the triple clamps. I took everything off the handlebars and now the only light that comes on is the cruise light when I first turn it on. None of the other lights work at all. Will let you know, I'm getting caught up in the garage now and should be able to work on her today,,, As i have carpal tunnel in my righ hand only ...cruise control is not an option... -
I just don't get this touring thing on a crotch rocket concept. Why anyone would want to remain bent ovet a fuel tank with a windshield the size of my full face helmet, for any length of time, is beside me. Would be a fun bike to take on the Dragon though...
