Thanks a bunch. I will keep it in mind. It would make a good ride. Iowa Guy

I know. Too much to ask for but might as well dream. Suppose if I do rent, I'll get stuck with a HD. Iowa Guy

I am going to be on vacation at St. Simons Island, Georgia during the first two week in July. It is just off the coast from Brunswick. I haven't ridden a 2nd GEN Venture. I'd love to rent one for a day or two. What are my options to rent? Iowa Guy

oil pressure light came on
Iowa Guy replied to mother's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hummm... Last night my second son was riding Kawasaki Ninja 250 and the oil light came on while at the same time the engine decelerated and finally quit and would not restart. He happened be stranded beside the house of a Yamaha mechanic. That guy said that the bike probably had a bad sensor and that the sensor would have to be reset or swapped out or something. Sound right to you guys? Iowa Guy -
She and my other son took the course and passed the exam. I helped her practice in a parking lot. Maybe that is why she took a wide corner and dumped it in a flower bed. Only place in the whole area she or the bike wouldn't get hurt. I gotta look for a bigger garage. The 650 V-Star is a good lady's bike. Any other suggestions? Iowa Guy:900[1]:

Done that - Didn't help

Thanks Earl, I've got lotsa WD40 and a good air compressor. If that doesn't do it, I will go to a gun smith. Iowa Guy

I have a Beretta 380 that I have been using for target practice. (recently qualified for carry conceal permit). The safety became sticky after while but now it won't work at all. Not good to have a gun without a functioning safety. I have had such good luck with this site and fixing my bike, I was wondering if there is a comparable user friendly site that I could ask questions of for firearms. Iowa Guy

Good Store, good underwear. http://www.duluthtrading.com/store/clothes-footwear/mens/underwear/76014.aspx?feature=product_11 Iowa Guy

Good News, I practiced more, got a more accurate weapon, and the qualification score was lowered to 60 and I passed on my first try. Just can't find any ammo for sale now. Its not that stores are not selling it. Its that they can't keep it on the shelf. It seems there is a hoarding fever out there that is self-maintaining. Iowa Guy

I recently bought a 01 Kawasaki Ninja 250 for my youngest son to learn to ride on. I enrolled him in the basic course with ABATE and was letting my wife know about it so she could coordinate schedules (manage our lives). Then she says, I want to learn how to ride too. I said, WHAT? She has shown no interest in riding since I bought the bike nearly four years ago and then when I buy a screamin green crotch rocket she wants to learn. Of course, I sent in the application for the course right away but I am still shaking my head. Iowa Guy

I read an interesting article in Smithsonian Magazine this month: Presence of Mind: Buckle Up. And Behave http://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/Presence-of-Mind-Buckle-Up-And-Behave.html The article ostensible deals with the 50th anniversary of the introduction of the three-point seat belt but then goes on to discuss the human behavior of risk taking. "Now researchers are positing a risk compensation corollary: humans don't merely tolerate risk they seek it; each of us has an innate tolerance level of risk, and in any given situation we will act to reduce - or increase - the perceived risk, depending on that level." As I read the article I was thinking of several implications. As more safety equipment is added to cars does it make the roads more dangerous for bikers? Do bikers who wear helmets and other safety equipment ride less safely because they compensate for the improved odds of survival? If so, does that mean that we are safer if we wear less safety equipment and carried no personal liability or physical damage insurance? Interesting Iowa Guy

Dumb or just plain stupid?
Iowa Guy replied to JimRoberts's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
work an edge of the grip up and insert air compressor nozzle and blow. then pull. mine came right off doing that iowa guy -
My youngest son is 16 so we bought a ninja 250. It is a 2001 with 2500 miles on it owned by an old guy who'd bought it for his wife but she didn't ride it. I figured it would be a good learner bike for him. I test rode it yesterday and will pick it up on Wd. After putting miles on the Venture, a 250 makes me giggle. I am thinking that a 16 year old that has only moped experience but doesn't know how to shift yet, it will be just what we want. It is cute and hopefully he can't get into too much trouble. And WOW, love that green color. Iowa Guy

Dan yes- give it a shot. I think that I will go another direction on headsets. Iowa Guy
-
Okay - I swapped the curly cords with no difference in performance. Then I swapped the location of the helmets and the problem followed the helmet. Hmmm... The headset is the problem? It is a sealed molded plastic fixture. Is the only solution to buy a new headset? Iowa Guy

Thanks so much for the plan of attack. I will let you all know how it goes. Iowa Guy

My 89 venture has a problem. When my wife and I go for a ride, she can't talk to me or more accurately, I can't hear her when she talks in the headset. We can both hear the radio. I can hear myself speak in my own headset and she can hear me in her's but I cannot hear her in my headset when she talks in her microphone. Now some of you may be saying 'whats the problem' but anything over 15 minutes and no conversation is intolerable to her and we arrive at our destination no matter how pretty the ride with her in a very sullen mood, sorta like your pet cat that is coming in out of a cold hard rain. That is certainly not my idea of a pleasant evening. Sort of spoils the mood, if you know what I mean. Anybody have an idea why this might be happening? Otherwise, I will be riding solo or taking the Toyota. Iowa Guy

Upgrade brakes?
Iowa Guy replied to Iowa Guy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Could that account for the surging when braking with the hand brake? Iowa Guy -
Upgrade brakes?
Iowa Guy replied to Iowa Guy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hi Earl, Wow! You got lotsa VR bikes. Yes, I realize how the brakes work on the Venture; foot pedal works the right front and rear brakes and lever works the left front only. I like this integrated feature. When I first bought my bike, I used too much front brake and I dumped it approaching a corner & scatter plastic all over the intersection. I seriously considered giving up riding if that is what was going to happen. After some very good advise from good people on this site I bought new tires and changed my braking style completely. Now, I use the foot pedal first and only the hand brake a little if needed. I am much more conscious of things like cracks and man hole covers in the roadway all the way to the ambient temperature; you know, stuff you never think about if you have four fat tires under you. Well, I am second owner and the guy before me put 19K on it with just using the rear brake he said. Any other possibilities of what might be wrong other than a warped rotor? I will PM you about your supplies. Iowa Guy
