Stebel Air Horn question/discovery...
Globewalker replied to bamico's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Wolo Bad Boy doesn't seem to fit on my 07 RSTD. !!!! Just spent the evening wiring it up, then went to mount it and it wont fit in the space. This is the all chrome (plastic also) Wolo Bad Boy from Harbor Freight 97099-2VGA Bad Boy™ Chrome Dual Air Horn And I am using the Carbon One adapter. It hits the muffler shield on the left, the engine on the right and the mount for the old horn in the back.. and the carbon_one adapter doesn't quite reach. Might be possible to shim it out.. but then it will stick out a ways.. See pic. Is it possible this model of the Wolo is a bit bigger than the Stebel or other Wolos? I liked it because it was all Chrome and only $38.. but assumed it was the same size as others. Anyone try one of these yet? Any ideas would be appreciated. Bamico.. did the Stebel fit farther in than that? -
Or maybe its because he has the wrong color bike.. I thought I heard the black ones were the slowest

Yes, thanks Brad and Lonna for opening your home to us and being such great hosts. We were VentureRider Virgins, so it was nice to meet many of the great (crazy) friendly people I have been communicating with and learning from on this site. And of course.. all the food was great including the cheesecakes.. And thanks Kenny for the carb-tune and Gunboat for the air-shock check. Keith & Cindy The Globewalkers

Aftermarket Light Bar
Globewalker replied to hunter 1500's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I have 07 RSTD.. so no fairing, radio... Had them on about a month now and no problems.. I have no other accessories added yet though.. 35W would be nice.. or LED cluster maybe.. These cheapos seems would be hard to open and change the bulb.. they are pressed together I may upgrade to a better version one day.. but for now they do the trick- 11 replies

Well.. I'm kinda new to this friendly, hilarious community and have enjoyed the wisdom and advice so far. Squidley kindly offered to help me work on my bike awhile back when he saw I was in Houston area and new to the RSTD world.. we just haven't been able to hook up yet - my fault, always out of town... I wanted to say congrats on the new place and we will hopefully be able to stop by and meet some of you folks finally. Keith

Saddlebag rail adjustment.
Globewalker replied to YamaDuck's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Nice.. just the info I was looking for.. had to remove the chrome fender trim and tap it out from the back side though - I was scratching the chrome trying to get under it.. Looks like I will have to drill a new hole anyhow... bought some rails off ebay and they aren't Yammies.. so not quite to spec - wont quite reach the factory hole.. But rails appear to line up better if I drill hole under it anyhow -
Very nice sound.. I have been thinking on the RKs.. How do these sound compared to those? Do they mount the same as the RKs, requires the special brackets?

Noisy front brake and squeaky rear shock
Globewalker replied to greyghost's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
07 RSTD My front brakes sound horrible also.. like grinding the rotor but low miles and plenty of pad and no rotor damage.. Ran into a guy with 05 that had the same noise and had it checked out to be ok... My Bro-in-law has same noise on 99 Road Star and shop said was ok.. Maybe yamaha just has noisy brakes But I might try some of these tips one day.. good question.. -
Help - Gas nipple came out of Petcock

Help - Gas nipple came out of Petcock
Globewalker replied to Globewalker's topic in General Tech Talk
Yea.. I just did a thin coating of JB Weld and tapped it in.. We'll see how it holds tomorrow. It should since not any pressure coming out. -
While removing my tank.. The gas hose to the petcock was very stubborn - stuck on the nipple good.. After much work I finally got it to start twisting so I could try to slide it off the nipple.. Well it was the actual brass nipple that was turning and came right out of the petcock! Can this be shoved back in and it won't leak or do I now need a new petcock? Anyone have this problem before? I finally managed to get it out of the end of the hose.. not sure if tapping it back in the petcock.. maybe a little JB Weld would work? Thanks

This does sound interesting.. I know I could learn alot and would be nice to meet some of you guys.. But I am pretty sure I am out of town that weekend. If it falls through, I will ask someone for directions. THANKS.

Yea.. I see what you mean... I think you are correct BUMMER The handlebar is wider to accomodate the wide speedometer so it is right over the shock valve about 1/2" clearance if lucky and cables are routed in between. I guess lowering the rear is my only option...

All the threads about this mod involves Venture owners. This also possible for the RSTD right? Are the forks the same? Has anyone done this on an RSTD? I have an 07 RSTD Also, was reading on another thread/forum the concern of bottoming out and the fork tubes impacting the fender after lowering the front. Has anyone had this problem after lowering it? Thanks

Wow what a generous offer.. this is definitely a helpful group here. Yes we are neighbors.. I am off Cypresswood near I45. I will PM you!

I am in Spring (Houston area). Wanting to put pull back handlebars on also... Should I try to do that at same time since handlebars have to come off.. or I imagine they don't have to come off that far eh.. Thanks
-
This is very interesting and helpful... So.. how do you lower the front? for free? And I havent checked what psi I have in the front shocks.. don't yet have the right guage/pump, but would that have a factor in the height of the front? Thanks!
-
I'm not sure about rake and trail and leveling links.. But can I ask.. if I am inseam challenged and just want my feet firmer on the ground, would lowering the rear a bit be the right choice? Like the Baron's lowering kit.. or is there a cheaper method? I have an 07 RSTD with Mustang Seat. Thanks, Keith

Installed Show Chrome Celestar Radiator Grill Model 61-108 on my 07 RSTD Many vendors selling it list it being compatible with the Venture only. The ebay seller swore it would be the same as the RSTD – that they have the same radiator setup. Since I got a good deal (half price of new) I figured I would take a chance. Well it wasn’t exactly a direct fit, but it was doable. So I am not sure if the same minor mod is required for the Venture also or just for the RSTD - but I suspect they would have the same radiator setup. Basically though, I just had to do a fair amount of bending on the top two tabs and wallow out the bottom two tab holes a bit more. A little trial and error but got it to work. Attached are pics of what it took and the finished look. Hope it helps if anyone else tries to install one.. And now I run across this Wagner grill on the forum.. now that really looks nice.. but too late -Keith

That sounds more like it.. albeit a waning warranty. I picked up a 07 RSTD with only 1340 miles recently for $8556 at a Honda dealer ($9615 Drive out).. so there are deals out there.. so many bikes for sale right now... I love it so far... starting on the mods...
