If your problem is the stator wire grommet, a temp fix until you install the new stator is to run you oil level just above the bottom mark in the window and park the bike on the center stand. That'll stop it from leaking.

I got trapped into turning around at the end if a very narrow road and the worst part was that it was unpaved and also very steep. Luckily, I was on my Goldwing and it has reverse. While reverse is handy and useful in quite a few situations, I think that was the one time I really had to have it. I don't know how I would have turned around without dropping the bike if I hadn't had it. There was no way to get traction under my feet. Maybe the next gen Venture will have reverse.

I called Yamaha and the chrome grip caps are still availbale. Amazing. I guess they never clean out the drawers. $6.75 each.

A friend of mine bought a V-Rod, thought he could tour on it, rode it on one long trip...about 2,000 miles, and sold it as soon as he got home. Bought a BMW GS. V-Rod was so friggin unfomfortable it almost disabled him.

Yeah. Yamaha still stocks all the engine and (hard) parts. The plastic is the only thing you have to worry about. There's E-bay.

My 91 is 17 years old and is still a very nice bike and still compares well with all current touring bikes. I'm keeping it until my mechanic retires. He really knows ventures. He plans to work another 10 years. The first gen ventures are very popular in Europe.

Rear Class pressure, as stated above, is very important. I also noticed that it got easier after I installed new progressive springs in the front, for the same reason...the bike is higher. But, I also had to cut my windscreen down.

I'm 5-11 and 190. I put mine up easily. Good advise above. It is all technique, not strength. Once you "get it", it will seem easy. Make sure both feet of the stand are making good contact, then push down with all your weight on the lever with a slight pull on the passenger grab rail and she'll roll over toward the back.

Honda is stopping production of the Goldwing in the US. 2009 (I think) Goldwings will be produced at a new factory in Japan. Speculation is it will be a new design. Wouldn't it be great if Yamaha came out with a brand new 125 hp V-4 tourer about the same time?

Thanks I have hotgrips. I used the stock end caps from my 91 VR. They just pliugged into the hole in the end of the stock grips. I don't think there was a screw. I had em siliconed on. I guess I didn't use enough.

Grand Canyon is a great ride. Don't miss Flagstaff, Oak Creek Canyon, Sedona, Jerome and Prescott.

Motorcycle Consumer News just did a review in their latest issue. They liked it. I hate the looks less as time goes by, but I still tnhink its ugly. An air cooled V-Twin is not my idea of a touring bike. It's for those that want something different. Or for Harley guys who can't bring themselves to buy a Venture or Wing.

I have one on my Goldwing. I installed it myself. It was easy. Mine came with a RAM mount. It bolts to the brake or clutch reservoiur bolts.

I lost one of mine. Anyone know where I can find a replacement?

I've had mine one year and love it. Before you head out on a long trip, check the proceedure for rebooting it if it happens to lock up. And take the manual with you. You have to simultaneously push two buttons. Mine did it once. I had to dig out the manual to fix it.

pegs vs floorboards
91nwl replied to 91nwl's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks for all the input. I'll stick with my pegs. I have highway pegs on the crash bars. I might try a seat pad just to see what it does.- 13 replies

I have a 1st Gen. I'm a peg fan. But I would like to either lower my pegs or raise my seat so it is a little farther from my seat to my feet. Do floorboards lower your feet? Has anyone made the seat a little taller?

I recently installed progressive fork springs on my 91 VR. Now I have a fork seal starting to leak. It's making a puddle on the garage floor. Is this common? I'm probably going to have my dealer put in the new seals. The service manager is very VR savi. Any advice? Is there anything else I should have done while they're in there?.

I have 2GB on my Zumo and that is about all you need for a week-or-two-long motorcycle trip. I suppose the advantage of more would be to have lots of playlists of different types of music.

OK, but I just gotta get this one thing in and it's got nothing to do with politics...... Hillary gives me the friggin willies.

Shoei Platinum. Very good quality, very light and comfortable (I think it may be the lightest 3/4?), about $200. Only downside is that the liner is not removable.
