I would have ruined a good pair of underwear on number 3.

You 4-cylinder is firing twice as many times at the same rpm as your v-twin. I had the same feeling when I got my goldwing 6-cyl after riding my venture. I kept wanting to shift. Now I am used to both, so it doesn't bother me any more.

Good God! Looks like you rode through Kansas!

I use textile. I have both winter and summer jackets as I can't find one that really works for both. I have the Tourmaster Transition II for winter...very nice jacket for up to about 75F. I have a Firstgear Mesh-Tex for summer. BTW, heres a great deal on the mesh jacket if you need one. http://www.jakewilson.com/productDetail.do?&navType=closeout&webTypeId=310&prodFamilyId=26587&webCatId=34&navTitle=Motorcycle%20Apparel&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=Mar2010SpringSpecials

Small knocking noise

It is normal. -
Is there a link to information about the rally in Durango in September? Thanks

Salt Lake City should be avoided. Riding through there on I-15 is a very unpleasant experience, and I have done it a few times. Traffic is terrible, there are always accidents, it is hot, and then there's the whole "Utah drivers" thing. I'm from Southern California so I know a thing or two about traffic and I avoid SLC at all costs. JMHO

Center Stand

Progressive fork springs make it a lot easier to get it up on the stand. -
Many. Great game.

Canada invented hockey. The US invented... MIRACLE ON ICE!

I was really tempted by that bike. But, I figured I would have to spend about $1,000 on it, (progressive fork springs, valve adjustment and gaskets, heated grips, etc.) to get it to where mine is, so I figured my max price was about $4,000. Still, to me, that would be a great bike for $6,000. BTW, I paid $5300 for my really pretty 91 in 1997 with 14,000 miles on it. That one just went for $5,100 with 26,000 miles on it, and it is 12 years older! So, I might make money of I wait a little longer.

Didn't someone on here make some stainless pieces? I would like to just blank the whole thing off, but would like stainless or chrome.

The GL1800 is an awesome touring motorcycle. There is nothing else that compares. But, yeah, $25,000 kind of takes your breath away. I'm glad I bought mine in 05. I bought mine because it has all the things I love about my 1st gen venture...power, handling, comfort, drop-dead reliability, etc., except more of it and the brakes are way better. It also has awesome headlights and plenty of electrical capacity and the aftermarket is unbelievable.Buy a used one. They run 200,000 miles easy, like ventures. This year a new model is coming out so a bunch of used 1800's might be hitting the market in the next couple of years.

First Gens and Synthetic Oils
91nwl replied to george0fthejungle's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I use Yamalube. It used to be 20W-40 and is now 10W-40. It is a semi-synthetic. I used a full synthetic once and had clutch slippage, so I rebuilt the clutch and went back to the Yamalube. But, I really don't think the synthetic oil had anything to do with the clutch slippage. I use Mobil 1 MXT-4 in my Goldwing, never any problems. Make sure you do not use an evergy conserving oil in your First Gen since it has moly in it and the 1st gens are subject to clutch slippage anyway. Use a 10W-40 and it will, most likely, not be energy conserving...check the label. All -30's are energy conserving. -
heated vest on 1st gen
91nwl replied to chocking's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
My wife doesn't like to be cold. I got her long johns, good jacket, good gloves with glove liners, and rain gear. Another must is a turtle fur or shampa neck warmer that comes up over her nose. We have not needed heated gear yet. Our friends got the heated vests and had trouble regulating the temperature....too hot or too cold. I put heated grips on the bike. I won't have a bike without them now. -
heated vest on 1st gen

I got snow and 32 degrees on July 4th in 2006 on Independence Pass. We just layered up and powered through it. The passes are very unpredictable. Decent rain gear is a must, less so in early June, but still a must. -
Back in the 50's and 60's guys would strip down Harleys and Triumphs and race from the desert florr to Big Bear California, a very steep, rough off-road race. One day a guy showed up un a 2-stroke Hodaka 125 and smoked em all and the two-stroke off-road revolution was born. Honda, Suzuki. Yamaha and Kawasaki followed and perfected the breed.

My local shop (Huntington Beach, CA) still sells parts and works on them. It is surprising what parts are still left...lots of them. The service manager, Gary, is a Venture expert, having owned one for over 16 years. I plan to sell my Venture when Gary retires in about 10 years. It'll be 30 years old and I'll be "older" than that.

There is something wrong. It should not take 6 hours and there should be plenty of room. I would post a question on the Garmin help site. Also, this is a focus board for electronics for goldwing owners. http://208.43.95.107/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=27

Cut Down Stock Windshield

I sat on an 09 2nd gen at the dealer a couple of days ago and the first thing I noticed is that the screen seems too high.- 12 replies

Cut Down Stock Windshield
91nwl replied to GaryZ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
When I put in progressive fork springs, it raised my front-end a lot. I had to cut about 3 - 3 1/2 inches off my wind screen. I set it up so if I kind of slump down, I look thru it and if I sit up straight, I can look over it. No turbulence.- 12 replies

High Output Stator from Buckeye Performance
91nwl replied to Joopster55's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Here's a question I didn't see answered in this discussion. About how many amps does it normally take to run the engine and the head/running lights? In other words, if the stator is good for 30 amps at a reasonable cruising rpm, how much is left for accessories? I have a 91 Royale. The accessory fuse in my stock fuse box is 10 amps. I have added Hot Grips (3 amp fuse) and two 50 watt driving lights (15 amp fuse, but maybe about 6-8 amps draw), so I'm really close to 10 amps total accesory load). I'm getting ready to order a pair of nice Hella 55w driving lamps to replace my 50w Walmart lights. BTW, I can't find good quality 35w driving/fog lights at a reasonable price (like under $100 or so).- 69 replies
