Oil and gas in exhaust
thoward replied to thoward's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
This has been a year-long soap opera. The bike has spent most of that time sitting in my shop with me in denial and acting like it is not really sitting there in my way. I just continued to ride the V-STAR. Here is the very short version. The guy who cleaned the carbs left the pilot jet out of the front right carb. Immediately, it was spewing fuel and oil out the right exhaust. He convinced himself that the cylinder was damaged and advised me to seek a replacement engine which I did. Obviously, that did not solve the problem because we used the original carbs. I took it back to him with no success. I swapped ignition coils and replaced the ignitor, all to no avail. I decided to throw a little more money at it and took it to a different shop and they found the missing jet. I rode it about 100 miles today and all seems to be well. Now all that's left to do is have a "come to Jesus" meeting with the guy who left out the jet. I appreciate all the comments and suggestions. Tommy -
1999 ignitor; 2 or 3 plugs?
thoward replied to thoward's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I accept part of the blame for this error because the picture clearly showed the wrong part. I should have realized it was the wrong part and so I do not feel abused by paying $8 to restock. It seems to me that we both made a mistake. I have had other dealings with this company and they have been fair with me. Thanks for the response. Tommy -
1999 ignitor; 2 or 3 plugs?
thoward replied to thoward's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I am now convinced that this is the wrong part. Pinwall advertised this part as an ignitor for a 2006 Royal Star Venture. This is incorrect. The ignitor is the same for 1999 through at least 2009. However, I am not without fault in this as I bought it on ebay knowing it had only 2 connectors. I had not yet looked at mine to know it was the wrong one. I just spoke with Pinwall. They are going to take this one back and charge me a 10% fee. I have already ordered a replacement from Pinwall. They have treated me well in the two transactions I have had with them. Thanks to you guys for the response. Tommy Howard -
1999 ignitor; 2 or 3 plugs?

My service manual shows the ignitor is located directly in front of the battery box. On my '99, the module in front of the battery box has three connectors whereas the one from Pinwall has only two. So, either I am looking at the wrong module or they sent me the wrong one. Tommy -
Hello. I just bought a used ignitor from Pinwall and it has two plugs (4XY-01). Mine has three plugs (4XY-00). Their ad says it came from a "2006 Yamaha Royal Star Venture XVZ1300TF". My bike is a 1999 XVZ13TF. I just want to get my ducks lined up before calling Pinwall, so I have two questions. 1. Is the ignitor located just in front of the battery on the 1999 RSV? In other words, am I actually looking at the correct part? 2. Can anyone tell me if this ignitor may have come from a first generation venture? It has 2 plugs vs. 3. Thanks. Tommy Howard

Good morning. My owner's manual states 3.91 US qts. when replacing the filter. -
Oil and gas in exhaust

I'm not sure how to tell if it is a California model. I changed the oil and filter using about 3.9 qts. I rode it for about 30 miles after the carb cleaning and the oil and gas was still being ejected from the right exhaust. The bike came from Ocala, FL. Thanks for the offer to use the Morgan. Thanks, Tommy -
Greetings. 1999 Venture with 38k miles has been sitting up for quite a while (just bought it). Just had carbs cleaned and now have oil and gas blowing out of right exhaust. All cylinders show approximately 120 psi of compression. Can this be caused by an intake problem? It seems this must be related to the recent removal of the carbs. Thanks for your time. Tommy
